andybren Posted July 31, 2005 Report Posted July 31, 2005 From .com:Rookie wide receiver Chris Henry continued to impress Saturday as Marvin Lewis jacked up things in the first day of pads with the famed drill known as the “Oklahoma,” “Nutcracker,” or whatever your high school coach called the one-on-ones you were asked to beat the tar out of the guy across from you. Safety Madieu Williams still made the tackle after Henry knocked his helmet off on the initial block, which tells you something about both.“I think this kid, when the lights come on, he comes on,” said receivers coach Hue Jackson. “That’s good because we play under the lights.”Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis stood in the middle of it all, unable to hide a smile as the whistle dangled from his mouth. The kid is really growing on me. He might just give TJ some serious competition for playing time. And Madieu...he's definitely the real deal. We're seeing the start of 2 all-pro careers here. Quote
CTBengalsFan Posted July 31, 2005 Report Posted July 31, 2005 I honestly think Henry will be our #2 by the end of the year. Quote
Kazkal Posted July 31, 2005 Report Posted July 31, 2005 man even I'm starting to think pdubs fate is over Because henry and kelly can be the 2nd wideout then TJ play the slot Quote
joshh967 Posted July 31, 2005 Report Posted July 31, 2005 I really think Henry is something special. I keep hearing nothing but good things from what he is doing in practice. In the beginning they said he caught everything including long bombs from carson. Now he shows he is aggressive enough to block now too. I agree with ct bengals fan on the possibility of him moving to number 2 spot by the end of the year, or atleast becoming another big part of our offense. Quote
membengal Posted July 31, 2005 Report Posted July 31, 2005 Well, if he progresses in the pre-season games and shows flashes of what he is showing in practice, it is definitely not too hard to envision a three wides set of CJ, TJ (in the slot) and Henry opposite CJ on the other side. Lot of speed to burn in that scenario. Quote
HoosierCat Posted July 31, 2005 Report Posted July 31, 2005 Guys, 3 words: It's. Training. Camp.Henry's very promising, yes. I like the kid, too. But before we toss PW and TJ over the side, let's see how he does come September, eh? Quote
kybengalsfan Posted July 31, 2005 Report Posted July 31, 2005 I was at camp yesterday (Saturday) morning's practice. Hey, this Henry guy is the real deal. If I was Kelly W., I would be concerned. Henry looks to have it all: speed, quickness, aggressiveness, and great ability to fight off blockers, not to mention leaping between them. Also of interest among the wide receivers was Cliff Russell; he looked real good. K. Washington looked to be fighting for his job, also practiced well. Chad and CJ seemed to be taking their leadership roles seriously by setting the example with hustling and performing. Chad also cut up a little and kept the other guys loose. Got to love his attitude and work ethic. Me thinks our receiving core will be as good as any in the NFL. Who Dey!! :player: :player: Quote
Who? Posted July 31, 2005 Report Posted July 31, 2005 The Bengals have one of the best receiving cores in the game, and with Carson Palmer to go along with that it looks good. I wouldn't put so much hope in Chris Henry though, I doubt he will look that good this year. Quote

Lot of speed to burn in that scenario. I believe that will be the most common formation....CJ and Henry outside with TJ in the slot...and using the TE as an HB in front of Rudi....or have Chris Perry or Rudi in a single back set with one TE....i can't even imagine the danger of the 4 WR set....wow... AMC Posted July 31, 2005 Report Posted July 31, 2005 WR corp1) CJ2) TJ3) Henry4) Washington5) Walter6) Perry/BroussardIf Warrick is healthy do they keep seven WRs? Also, wouldn't mind seeing Henry on kick off returns a little in pre-season.... Quote
DontPushMe Posted July 31, 2005 Report Posted July 31, 2005 Just remember, these same things were being said about Kelly Washington in training camp of his rookie year. Quote
The Big Orange Posted July 31, 2005 Report Posted July 31, 2005 Safety Madieu Williams still made the tackle after Henry knocked his helmet off on the initial block, which tells you something about both. I think Madieu would have still made the tackle if his head would have come off with his hat...this guy is tough...he would miss a play though as they reattached it with some duct tape...good as new. Madieu and Chris have some history -- Maryland played West Virgina a couple of years ago and Madieu made some good plays and, his usual, hard hits.It is good news for the Bengals that these two are now on the same team --- I LOVE IT!!! Stripes Posted August 1, 2005 Report Posted August 1, 2005 The more I read and see on Chris Henry the more excited I get... Coaches are hyping him up so much with what he's doing in camp. I love how quickly Chad stepped up to get some chemistry growing between himself and Henry... I can't wait for the preseason to start.... good God above, it's only in 12 days.... halelieuja! But before we toss PW and TJ over the side, let's see how he does come September, eh? Pdub isn't being tossed aside because of Henry, he's being tossed aside because he has a leg that just won't work and he can't get healthy after a full year off. Quote
BlainThePain Posted August 1, 2005 Report Posted August 1, 2005 I have a feeling we are going to see some big runs using Perry on a draw in four wide sets. Also, can you imagine the fits we could give DCs spreading things out with four wide with Rudi at RB on a 3rd and 2? That could lead to some mean playaction passes. Another thing I am looking forward to is Tab Perry on the reverse. With his size and speed, he could be scary on a reverse. I remember watching highlites of Tab and he breaks tackles like nobodies business. Quote
Ragin Buc Posted August 1, 2005 Report Posted August 1, 2005 Had it not been for his attitude Chris Henry would have been a 1st rounder easy last year. Kid's a beast. Hopefully Lewis can straighten out his act cause you guys would have yourselfs a steal.Good luck with that. Quote

Henry might have the talent, but it seems to take a couple of years for a WR to show his worth in the NFL. Kdub is in his make or break third season, he will be interesting to watch and see if he steps up or fades away. Quote
WhoDeyHomer Posted August 1, 2005 Report Posted August 1, 2005 I think he will be good, maybe even great, but he won't be unseating TJ this year, I really can't see that happening unless he is just a true phenom. This doesn't mean he can't take a few snaps away from TJ though. As far as the 'character issue' , since when is passion for the game a fault, granted he didn't vent it properly, but you can contain that stuff. I mean Dean fired me up when he went wild west on America, at least you know he cares right? Quote
