joseph
Why not I'll be the first one to throw it out there. I wouldn't be suprised if Chris Perry is the starting halfback on this team by the end of the season. Anybody who thinks that kid will be content playing second fiddle to Rudi Johnson best recognize. While it hurts to admit it (after watching that former azz-clown Woverine single handedly run the Bucks over) dude is good. Plus it seems like that Perry plays with a lot of heart and leaves it all on the field. I say that after watching the guy run about 40 freagin times against the Bucks. I rember watching in the 4th quarter and guy, after every freagin run, would just be laying there after each run looking like he was done. Then he'd either drag himself off the turf or have his teammate practically pick him up off the turf and drag him back to huddle. Then the freak would get another hand-off and do it again. I rember sitting at a friends house drinking some brews from a keg and wondering out loud in frustration, "HOW THE HELL DOES THAT GUY KEEP GETTING UP!!!" Mthrfckr was like Rocky taking a beat down at the hands of Apollo but he just kept getting up and coming back for more. I've never walked away from a OSU/ Michigan game with respect for a Michigan player, but I came pretty close that day......it was strong performance...... As soon as he gets healthy and on the field though, Rudi better watch out. Kid is a complete back and contract or no contract the best player deserves to start. You know I like Rudi as a back, as much as it seems I don't. I just still have yet to understand why they took Perry last year. I bitched about it... Then I don't understand why they signed Rudi to an extension. I bitched about that... This is the reason though, the Bengals are now officially walking the fence with this backfield sitaution. They have two starting caliber NFL running backs. So I guess it's time for Rudi and Perry go at it and let the play on the field decide who the starter is. I'd say their is no favorites in this competion. Contracts, fan support, hurt feelings, egos, seniority none of these should be a factor on who the Bengals starting RB is. It comes down to who give the Bengals the best chance to win. So good luck guys and may the best man win.
Who?
I hope that Perry doesn't end up starting.. the Brownies would have to play him twice a year, the kid is a player.
7/11
i am real curious to see how it ends up too...i hate michigan players...all of 'em. respect, though...perry got mine when he was in college. tougher than nails. i think they're both great backs too. perry is unproven in the nfl, but judgin by his college days, i think he'll be great, if given the chance. i was pissed when we drafted him b/c we could have gotten steven jackson and perry's from michigan...i still think jackson is gonna be tremendous, but we still got perry..i think rudi stays as the starter atleast throughout this year, b/c he's a perfect fit. but after this year, presuming perry is @ 100% by the following year, i could see some major drama happening, with a trade of one of the two. which one? i don't know, but both of 'em are very talented.... Who?
They both are really talented, I'd rather have Perry if I was the Bengals though, we will see how it turns out.
membengal
STARTING the controversy? STARTING it? Are you working for pushy?
bengalboomer7
As far as running styles and players they don't compare, but I see Marvin using them like Ickey and James Brooks, or more recently when the Panthers went to the Super Bowl, Stephen Davis and Deshaun Foster. I think Rudi will get slightly more carries because of his stlye and durablility, but Perry is going to be given every chance, and hopefully they can work well together
HairOnFire
I think Rudi will get slightly more carries because of his stlye and durablility, but Perry is going to be given every chance, and hopefully they can work well together Slightly more carries? I'm betting Rudi gets another 325-350 carries this season. So what does that leave for Perry? Scraps. As for the idea of the Bengals using more two back sets, haven't they said that for something like 10 straight years? The fact remains that with a few rare exceptions they've always preferred single back sets fronted by powerbacks who can hold up under huge workloads. And yearly yammering about throwing to the backs far more often typically gets shelved the moment the first whistle blows. Last, am I the only one who is troubled by how often analysis of Perry includes some mention about the high probability that he'll thow tantrums if forced to be a backup for very long? One even went so far as to claim that Perry would have already done so by now had he been healthy.

jditty47
ya i just want a brooks woods combo with johnson perry. i think all of johnson's flaws are positives on perry and all of perry's flaws are positives on johnson. we will be potent in the backfield with both, not just one. WhoDeyHomer
Rudi is the heart of this offense, he will end having nearly as many carries as last year. Rudi takes a hit in the hole better than any other rb, that said he doesn't usually make them miss (though I might recall hearing about him working on that this off-season). ML loves the consistent backs who can get the necessary yards between the tackles ( don't think we weren't going to steal Clarett before Denver got antsy, ML spent a lot of time at OSU and we passed on Gamble...). Perry will still get his as he can stretch the field with his speed and his hands. Too bad for Kenny Watson though eh? I think he's pretty quality, done nothing but perform as far as I've seen. I'd like to see him traded simply for the fact that he won't get his proper dues here, not that I am complaing he's here.
BengalszoneBilly
STARTING the controversy? STARTING it? Are you working for pushy? Try CONTINUING the controversy. Let see if Chris "Two Carry" Perry can last more than a few snaps, and then start talking about giving the PROVEN NFL workhorse Rudi Johnson a run for his money. If it happens, all the better. :player:
joseph
Well let's not forget a pass catching RB is a young QB's best friend. He's always there to help out when things get a little hairy
joseph
And lord knows even if QB makes a bad pass to RB in the heat of the moment, it's not very likely stone hand LB catches the ball
ArmyBengal
Anybody who thinks that kid will be content playing second fiddle to Rudi Johnson best recognize. Well, when he stops being a broke dick, maybe we can consider what he's content with. Until then, hopefully he can be content with the fact that he held out, got hurt, and has been a non factor up until this point. I hope he does great things here for the Bengals, but until that time, I have to call it what it is.... Unknown...WHODEY !!!
DontPushMe
Good to see im not alone in knowing that Perry is a better player than Rudi Johnson. Also, suprising that a Brown fan has more knowledge and understanding of our players than even some bengal fans do. Perry is already farther along at this point in his career than RJ was at this point in his.Perry starting at TB would take our offense to the next level. It would be like going from Troy Hambrick to Curtis Martin. Perry > RJ!!!

B24
Perry is already farther along at this point in his career than RJ was at this point in his. Perry is miles ahead of Johnson's rookie year with his 34 total offensive yards last year. He doubles that his year and Johnson's out of a job.Just don't see how you know Perry is better without seeing him play in the NFL. Ki-Jana Carter was pretty good in college too. CantStop85
Chris Perry will be a 3rd down, change of pace back this season. He'll get a few more carries than Kenny Watson did...but that's about it. He won't be taking Rudi's starting job this season unless Rudi gets injured. If Perry proves that he can be productive then he will battle it out with RJ for carries next season.
