brownsblow05
This year, if the Cincinnati Bengals are not AFC North champions, and do not go to the playoffs, then something is terribly wrong. We have a very strong offensive attack that even the toughest of defenses are going to have a hard time stopping, and we now have a new attitude on defense with the addition of Pollack, and Thurmann. If we don't make the playoffs this year, there are no excuses, and nothing to blame it on. So lets go out there and beat the crap outta the Browns, Steelers, and Ravens. (Especially the Browns..lol)Cincinnati Bengals AFC North Champions 2005Who-Dey :player:

(Especially the Browns..lol)Cincinnati Bengals AFC North Champions 2005Who-Dey :player: I wouldn't say something would have to be "Terribly Wrong" for the Bengals to miss the playoffs. Say for instance that last season wasn't a fluke for the Steelers and Big Ben, and he continues to improve, just as most here expect Carson to do. Combine that with this scenario for the Ravens that all this dissention currently going on is dealt with before preseason and is a non-issue, and Kyle Boller's problem was indeed that he didn't suck as a QB. It really was that he had crappy recievers to throw the ball too, so now Baltimore has a decent offense for once to complement their regular top 5 defense! (Okay, okay! I admit I'm REALLY being optomistic in regards to the Raven signal caller. If I felt he was for real, I'd call him the "QB" instead. )It's quite possible that Cincy could go 10-6 or 9-7 and miss the playoffs. Under this scenario it would of course be a great disappointment, but far from qualifying as "something terrible" unless it was in the context of the timing of the Bengals to rise from the leagues cellar at the same time two other teams within it's own division are also peaking! The_Next_Big_Thing
The Bengals are tough, but we are in a very tough division. Pittsburgh and Baltimore both field good teams too you know.
membengal
What Billy said. They could go 10-6 and miss the playoffs. I wouldn't say something is "terribly wrong" in that instance. For all you young-uns around here, they went 10-6 in 1986 and missed the playoffs. It sucked, but it has happened before. Happened to the fins just a couple years ago, too.Bengals also won 10 games in 1976 and missed the postseason (Pitt went 10-4 as well and Cincy lost both regular season tilts vs. the Steelers). That said, 10 wins usually gets you into mix. However, that would almost certainly mean a wild card berth. And the odds of winning it all from that starting point are long.
Kirkendall
Playoffs or disappointment. That's going to be our 2005 motto. However, the AFC North, as some have said, is going to be extremely tough to take for Baltimore, Pittsburgh and Cincinnati. I could honestly see both wild cards coming out of our division in 2005. One of which, I believe, we'll take. Not sure if our D is good enough to win the AFC North, but very possible to capture a wild card. BengalszoneBilly
Playoffs or disappointment. That's going to be our 2005 motto. But that's my current motto for dating in 2005! Oh...I'm sorry, I read it wrong there! My dating motto is PANTS off or disappointment! I've been dealin' with the big "D" a whole lot more than I'd care to admit! andybren
It will be a challenge to beat out the Steelers and the Ravens for the title, but I think it's better than saying "wildcard game, here we come!". I don't want to be the next Carolina Panthers, I want to be the next New England Patriots.

Defender
I totally agree with beating the crap out of the Browns, Ravens and Steelers, but I will be hard-pressed to write the 2005 season off as a disappointment if we don't win the division. Look, it usually takes SEVERAL years to build a championship caliber team, especially when you build from scratch like Coach Lewis has. Make the play-offs, whether as a wild-card or division champ, and the season will be very much a success. And, yes, Pollack and Thurman are great additions to the defense, but they are ROOKIES. The NFL game is going to be very fast for them and it will take some time for them to adjust to it and they may make rookie mistakes, not to mention that Pollack is changing positions and that by itself will take adjustment.
