HairOnFire
Not bad at all! I'd rather him at DE though. Yeah, I'm not a big fan of moving players to new positions but there was too much predraft discussion about how good Pollack could be at LB for anyone to second guess Marvin Lewis about this one. IckeyShuffle
i love this pick. i remember watching him play at the end of last year and saying he would look great in bengals stripes. now, let's go get a C, TE or another defensive playmaker.do you think passing on Clayton means Warrick is safe to play this year???? membengal
Great pick. I could not be happier. Very very happy. From the little I heard from ML on 1360 before my computer booted me:1. They snuck him into town last Friday night and he spent hours with the coaches just talking football.2. ML seems especially impressed with his work ethic and his ability to lead. (To say that we need that on D would be an understatement)3. They are indeed putting him at OLB.He can make that transition. No question. He is a force, when he hits people, they stay hit. This is a very good start to the festivities. A+ pick. The 1360 crew said the Bengals coaches looked extremely pleased..."like they had just swallowed a canary", so I am guessing that they got one of the very top of their board.Sweet.Who dey. membengal
Oh, one other thing.Their reluctance to go any higher for Sharper comes into a little more focus...
BritBengal
I really like this pick - about time Cincy picked someone who plays like they care, rather than stiffs like Wilkinson and Copeland who looked great but couldn't be arsed to front up when the time came. The only worry is if Marvin tries to have him switching between DE and LB, and he gets caught inbetween..he has the look of a 3-4 guy.Still, I'm glad he's on his way to the Bengals

Thanks for posting this.I'm excited for this pick. It all comes down to ML getting a player he wants and believes in. That's the key to getting this team over the 8-8 hump.Chris Mortensen for President!!
ShulaSteakhouse
When you watch his highlight films (link below) you can see why the Bengals think he can play OLB. He looks like a classic Steelers OLB from the 90's Marvin liked (Lloyd et al).I wonder if he can beat out Hardy in training camp/preseason?Videos

San Antonio Bengal
I don't remember the last time I was this excited about a Bengals first round draft pick -- and at #17 no less.

BengalszoneBilly
Great pick! Looks like he has a lot of emotion on the field and goes full speed all the time. Had some great highlights.Yes, I heard Mort say that we could "end New England's reign in the AFC." :player: WHO DEY Damn right it's a great #1 pick! What's more surprising? I ain't bitchin' about it! This just might become that "Epic" draft the Bengals have never had if this keeps up! Kudo's so far to Mike, Marvin, and the rest of the Cincinnati NFL Draft Team!Wow...still kind of stunned the Bengals remained in the 17 spot. Must have wanted to be certain of getting this guy or what?

andybren
How awesome was that highlight where he stripped the QB in the end zone? That's the precise moment I got excited about this draft.

Pollack wasn't going to get past 20 or 21 at the most.Really, a great pick. Really looking forward to the second round.
BengalByTheBay
I can finally exhale -- now that they've gone defense. I was somehow convinced they would take Clayton down to the very last moment. I know the comparisons to Bruschi are going to be everywhere, but I'm really glad they got somebody who is (a) a playmaker [something missing from the front 7 in my view] and ( somebody who should be able to move around and will get pressure on the QB. I actually see him as being a little less effective than Bruschi in coverage, but better mixing it up and getting into the backfield. There are just some guys who seem to be at the right place at the right time and, to all appearances, Pollack is one of 'em.
#85MVP
i love this guy!!! hes got the Sean Casey good guy team leader mentality. Hes the ringleader of the 2005 and forever on Cincinnati Bengal Defense aka The Best Defense in the NFL. ok maybe it sounds crazy but people will believe me when we beat the pats and go to the super bowl, just like mort said

Lot's of it too! Must have been crappy offers, or the stories were just pure bullcrap. I suggest the latter.

HairOnFire
I'd guess they got offers but turned them down. The announcers mention just prior to the pick at #16 that the selecting team had gotten phone calls about the pick.

I'm thinking that ringing telephones are a normal part of the routine for any draft team while they're on the clock this early in the draft. Tomarrow it'll be ringing like if you forgot to pay the bill!**Somebody check that thing for a dial tone, will ya!?!**
turnip
I think he will be just find as an OLB...I've heard his agility has been compared to some of the SAFETIES in the draft and the NFL tackles are a lot bigger/meaner than at the college level. So I am excited about the Pollack - Simmons with Landon in the middle...I was disappointed when the Panthers took Davis but now I am excited. He was on the Fox Sports South Braves pre-game show last night, and he seemed like a great character and personality. I imagine that any trade offers we got were too weak. All in all, I am pleased with how this pick has turned out.
