Sign Reggie Myles

Special teams coverage plays are now something I look forward to rather than cringe as I watch, due in no small part to the play of DB Reggie Myles, whose pic is as of now my avatar.

The guy played at what I consider to be a pro bowl level this year as a special teamer. He needs to be signed at least 3 years, none of this minimum tender one year crap. He is a oft-overlooked major contributor to the success of the Bengals these past couple of years, albeit only on special teams. I think his fire and desire on special teams fires up those around him as well, more than doubling his value.

Marvin, let's focus a long term deal for this fellow next, 'kay? Won't need to be a LOT of money, but let's not let him test the market next year, Ok?

You mean he's currently not signed? Ugh. Not only is he the best coverage guy on special teams, he can at least adequately fill-in at DB when needed.

Give Marvin some time...if he's truly worth it, Coach Lewis will have him in the fold.

No, he isn't signed.

He's a RFA and has been given a tender offer that ONLY qualifies the Bengals with the right to match if he signs elsewhere. If they do not match, no compensatory draft pick will be earned, as he was undrafted.

This means it's a one year deal, no signing bonus and etc, and next year, he'll be a highly sought after Unrestricted free agent.

Sign him now.

Please.

:D I was watching this show on the NFL channel, called 6 days to Sunday when the Bengals played the Browns. And they were going in the different locker rooms, and Cleveland's coaches were talking about how to stop #37 on special teams, he said this guy is an animal...

There is absolutely NO REASON not to re-sign Reggie Myles. He plays a good game at DB, and he's a freakin' machine when it comes to special teams. I would be really upset if we let him go somewhere else...having this guy on the team is a must.

During the season I always make a point to Tivo the opposing coaches pre-game shows if available. Prior to the 2nd game against the Ravens I watched a segment where one of Baltimores coaches broke down film of the Bengals special teams, calling them extremely sound in every phase of special teams play. Frankly, after what we've been through under Al Roberts it was very good to hear. But their coach wasn't done heaping praise because he then pointed to the image and said something along the lines of..."They don't have alot of impact players, but # 37 is a complete pain in the butt who makes a stupid amount of plays. Almost unstoppable."

There's absolutely zero reason to think Reggie will be anything other than a Bengal. He's a restricted free agent, which more or less, means we determine his future -- which will be filled with stripes!

And if he's not, then we get the coveted draft picks Marvin wants so much.

Either way, with Myles, it's a win-win scenario.

Dead on post.

He ain't going anywhere. These things will work themselves out as the off-season progresses.

Just because we are bored doesn't mean nothing is happening, or that a greater plan is not being adhered to.

He will be back.

Reggie Myles was/is a undrafted free agent. If he goes, we get nothing in the way of compensation.

Why not sign him with a small signing bonus to a longer term deal? Why chance losing him to UFA next year? why?

oh, and here's what Hobson had to say on the matter:

He is basically signed for one-year when they tendered hiom a one-year contract. With young DBs around like Greg Brooks around, I'm not sure they want to sign him to something longer. A good special teams player, but Pro Bowl overstates it. Thanks for the note.

Subject: Reggie Myles?

Why isn't our pro-bowl quality special team ace, Reggie Myles, signed?

Failing that, why isn't this issue getting any press or attention? This guy is HUGE for this team in terms of the impact (literally) he brings to coverage units.

Where do negotiations if any stand? We already know he was tendered a "right to match" offer, but where has it gone from there?

Well, he signed. Not that I am happy about it, as this means we may well lose him to FA next year.

From bengals.com

MYLES SIGNS: Bengals cornerback Reggie Myles, who led the team with three fumble plays on special teams last season (two forced, one recovery), signed his one-year tender offer of $656,000 Friday. Myles, who had been a restricted free agent, finished second in special team tackles
