BengalPappaw
Some interesting selections...they have us snagging Heath...http://www.profootballtalk.com/mockdraft.htmIf the profootballtalk scenario comes true, I'd like to see us take either Shawne Merriman or David Pollack or even better trade down to get another late round pick. But, you are right -- some very interesting picks. :player:
HoosierCat
I thought Pac-Man going so high (to the browns) something of a reach. I can see the 9ers going WR and the QBs drifting down a bit, tho. Not sure if the Titans toss Volek over so quick tho.As for Miller...I go back and forth on him. There's this evil little imp who lives in the back of my head (I know, I oughta get that checked out) who wants to see it happen solely for the fun of watching heads explode across Bengal fandom as the team fails to draft defense first again. (The sick little bugger really wants them to take an RB but will settle for TE!) So how much of my liking Heath is his fault I can't say. But I keep looking at the defensive options available and not finding much that excites me. Crowder? Scads of potential but he's raw and injury-prone. Davis? Do we really need to use the No. 17 on a SS? Pollack? Where are we gonna fit another DE in? That can wait until next year. Travis Johnson? For real or one-year wonder? Besides it looks like both he and Hawthorne will fall pretty deep into the second right now. Given the weakness of the DT class this year, why reach?Of course, something similar can be said for Miller: seems a solid all-around TE but is he upper-echelon? Many don't think so, that he's a first rounder only because of the weakness of the TE class. And he's a bit banged up right now, too.Yeah, trading down would not be a bad idea at all...no matter who's around...
TJJackson
I think S Merriman, M Spears or S Cody would be excellent picks at 17.Any of these could be groomed behind the effective but aging Duane Clemons, while Geathers slowly takes over for Justin Smith at the other spot

At DT I'm beginning to be tempted to wait one more year; hopefully we get a better look at Askew and the DT class in '06 looks a touch stronger anyhow.IMHO if you want to make a bit impact on the D you look to either fill the hole left by Beckett at SS, replace Hardy outside, or get a stud in the middle where we have questions about Webster and Miller behind him. A good SS can be found later and Merriman can go in Hardy's slot, and he might be worth a shot at MLB too.
HairOnFire
As for Miller...I go back and forth on him. There's this evil little imp who lives in the back of my head (I know, I oughta get that checked out) who wants to see it happen solely for the fun of watching heads explode across Bengal fandom as the team fails to draft defense first again. I can speak only for myself, but my head won't IMMEDIATELY explode. Drafting Miller has plenty of merit and if he's the choice I'd quickly remind myself that we're only talking about one pick. So your impish concerns aside, I'd say that in the Miller example mentioned above what happens in rounds 2-4 will determine if my forehead remains intact. What's that you say? How about an example? Well, sure...how about this offensive scenario?First round - TE, MillerSecond round - OC, SpencerThird Round - WR, JacksonFourth round - RB......[[[bOOOOM!!!!]]]
TJJackson
Of the three, I would take Merriman...and immediately pencil him in Kevin Hardy's spot.Merriman has bulked up to 272, so he's a legit DE candidate. He already had the muscle and speed and experience, so I think of him as a pure DE at this point. At DT I'm beginning to be tempted to wait one more year; hopefully we get a better look at Askew and the DT class in '06 looks a touch stronger anyhow.100% agreed, although if Luis Castillo falls to the right spot or Sione Pouha falls to say round 5, I'd be for it
HoosierCat
First round - TE, MillerSecond round - OC, SpencerThird Round - WR, JacksonFourth round - RB......[[[bOOOOM!!!!]]] The imp got a good laugh out of that one Scary thing is I can actually see that happening...center has to be addressed so that's 1 day 1 pick down, if they think Miller is BPA at 17 that's 2, then all we need is a run on LBs and SSs in the late second and early third and they grab a wideout. Then of course we don't know about Perry and...kerblooey! We'd probably be the first team in NFL history to score 600 points in a season and still miss the playoffs... Whur CHad At?
did anybody read something about that running back from cal, i forget what his name is, but i heard the bengals had a good interview with him.
bengalboomer7
JJ Arrington, and even though we don't need a RB, he will be a very good second, third, or in a crazy world fourth round pick, for someone else I might add
HairOnFire
Wow, that's the name I was typing when my forehead pretended to explode. What are the odds?
Whur CHad At?
I have been watching more and more of Merriman and the more he impresses me. Crowder, Merriman, or Spears would be an excellent pick. But who knows, last year everyone thought we were going to get Gamble and we took Perry. We could possibly draft a WR. Marvin fools us alll. But in Marvin I Trust, I trust he will make right choice
BengalszoneBilly
But who knows Only two people will know for sure before the Bengals 1st pick. The M&M boys: Mike & Marvin! The rest of us are just hoping and guessing...as usual.
thepudgester
I cant see us drafting a receiver on day 1....we have the best 1-2-3-4 in the league with Chad, Warrick, Housh and Kelly....my opinion is to take someone like Terrance Murphy or Larry Brackins in the 4th if they fall that far, if not screw it we're fine there. Even if we trade Warrick we still have a good 1-2-3.
