Alright Billy...

Next time something bad happens, I don't want to see you automatically assign the blame to Mike Brown!

Nothing personal directed at you...I just hate seeing people blame Mike Brown for every bad thing, and then turn around and praise Marvin for all that is good.

Define "bad." Remember when we didn't get Warren Sapp in last years free agent market, and many people blamed Mikie for that deal falling apart. Now looking back on it, was Mike "good" there, or "bad?" Tough call at the time, eh?

...Just joking Sky, and of course I didn't think it wasn't personal.

My point on that comment is that I just don't see Mike Brown as the type of owner who's sitting in his office, pouring over reems of the latest files on all available free agents in the NFL. Suddenly he see's Robinson's name pop up, and begins to accurately evaluate his ability, attitude, and all the other factors that would or wouldn't make him a fit for the Bengals, then pick up the phone, and call down to Coach Lewis's office, and say to him, "Listen Coach, I'm going to make a move to get the Dolphin's free agent Brian Robinson. I hope you can use him if he accepts the offer.", then hang up the phone and complete the deal.

Now if it was Al Davis of the Raiders, sure. But not Mike Brown. I'm just unable to picture it, that's all.

I'm far more likely to believe Marvin did the setting up, and put the deal in motion. Then Mike Brown (much credit to him at this point) agreed with Coach Lewis, and made the offer, which happily for us, he accepted.

Bengals reach deal with tackle

By Mark Curnutte

Enquirer staff writer

The Bengals this afternoon reached agreement on a three-year contract with free agent defensive tackle Bryan Robinson.

The club would not confirm what a source told the Enquirer was an agreement on a $6 million contract with $1.7 million to sign.

Robinson, an eight-year veteran, is a known run-stopper who could help the Bengals improve their 26th-ranked run defense (128.9 yards a game).

At 6-feet-4, 296 pounds, Robinson played six of his eight NFL seasons for the Chicago Bears. He played in all 16 games last season for Miami and registered 41 tackles. He has 17.5 career sacks.

Robinson would fit into a rotation at defensive tackle that includes John Thornton, Langston Moore and Duane Clemons. Second-year pro Matthias Askew also is expected to challenge for playing time in place of unrestricted free agent Tony Williams, who is unlikely to return to the Bengals.

Once the contract becomes official, Robinson will be the first outside player signed by the Bengals since free agency began March 2.

The Bengals have re-signed three players: unrestricted free agents T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Rudi Johnson and restricted free agent Marcus Wilkins.

Wide receiver Houshmandzadeh signed a four-year contract, and running back Johnson signed a one-year, $6.3 million tender as the team’s designated franchise player. Linebacker Wilkins signed a one-year tender for $636,000.

Revised from the original article this afternoon from bengals.com:

Agent: Robinson in fold

3-12-05, 2:45 p.m.

BY GEOFF HOBSON

The agent for Dolphins defensive lineman Bryan Robinson said Saturday his client has reached a deal with the Bengals. Robinson, who played in 13 games for Miami last season, figures to be the starting tackle next to John Thornton. Agent Mark Bartelstein confirmed that he spoke with the Bengals Saturday morning and afternoon to lock up the club's first free agent signing of the offseason. The Bengals won't comment until the deal is officially signed, but it's believed to be a three-year contract. Other teams involved were the Broncos and Cowboys.

Robinson, who is from Toledo, Ohio, had his best years with the Bears and helped lead them to a division title in 2001. It is believed that the contract is worth $6 million.

"Bryan grew up watching the Bengals and is excited about playing in front of his family," Bartelstein said. "Coach (Marvin) Lewis also gave him a call a few days ago saying the Bengals could use him, and that meant a lot."

He's also sort of a local boy who grew up watching the Bengals and is excited about playing for them to boot!?! This deal is sounding better all the time!

No way Channing Crowder. He is slow. His 40 time wasn't that good. I like Burnet or Blackstock in the draft.

How the hell do you say Channing Crowder is slow?

Channing Crowder

  Position:

LB College: Florida

  Height: 6-3 Year: So

  Weight: 245 40 Time: 4.60

Pretty Fast for a LB. Crowder is one of the fastest in College football. I don't know where you got that info that he was slow, he is better than those other no names you mentioned

Is that sh#t in my eyes or did the Bengals just sign a DT

I guess a year late is better than never. Robinson signed w/ Miami last year for $1.1-million IIRC. Had Bengals went after him last year, they should've been able to get him for 3 yrs- $3.5 mill instead of this $6 mill deal.

Bout time heads got pulled out of a$$e$.

Marvin is the man he'e got the Bengals on track for many years of playoff success!! All these people posting that they aren't doing enough need to be patient. Marvin will clear enough cap room through cuts (PW,Hardy) or trades (Rudi J) if he doesn't sign by Wednesday, to add what he needs to make a playoff run this year!!! Relax Bengal fans we have the man to take us all the way. Remember "IN MARVIN WE TRUST"

I really like the signing of Robinson and although I still would like to see Travis Johnson in stripes I agree with all of those who have their doubts about him. Robinson is a run stopper and he has experience which is as important as ever. And we didn't break the bank to get him. Personally I think he will make everyone on the line more productive as a result. I can't not wait to see who we draft now...throw all the bets out the window.

Back from Sarasota, good news on Robinson.

I happen to love Burnett's game, and think he will be a near All-Pro lever LB for someone. If he were to be on the board in the 2nd round, he is the one I would want for the Bengals.

They thought that they had Gardener lined-up to sign after June 1st last year.

Well actually they DID have Gardener all Lined-Up until they did an MRI on his back.

That was a damn shame ...

Gardener would have been a Very Good Pick Up for the Team.

Rick Hunley said he looked like he had never had those knee surgeroies.  He said he look above what he expected.  Crowder is not a reach, why can't anyone see that?  Marvin wants a run stopper, well Crowder is prob. the best Run stopper LB in the draft.,

Actually what Hunley said was "But for a guy who had five knee surgeries, he did pretty good".

But he also said that, "He's a productive football player" and that "He fits the bill for what you want in an inside linebacker".

This could change by draft day, but right now he certainly would be a bit of a reach with the 17th pick.

But this is what I would like to know ...

Just what makes you think that taking a LB with our 1st pick is now a Lock ?

Even with a DT signed in FA, I think that there are at least 2 or 3 different ways that we could go with the pick.
