Chucktkd Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 Rudi to accept tender 3/1/05: Bengals running back Rudi Johnson said Tuesday he would accept the team's one-year tender of $6.3 million and will play in 2005. He's expected to sign the deal Wednesday, but is still seeking a long-term deal with the Bengals. The club won't comment officially until Johnson signs the contract. Quote
BengalszoneBilly Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 I know I'm probably in the minority on this, but I like this news. Yeah, it's a big chunk of change, but I see few options for the Bengals. Quote
jjakq27 Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 It's a steep price but I am glad that he is going to sign. Hopefully they can work out a cap-friendly deal. Quote
BengalNation1281 Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 I don't mind the $6.3 mil this year...pay him that much in '05, work out a good long-term deal, it will all be good.Glad to hear that Rudi is coming back. But what will this mean for Perry? Does this mean that he won't be able to turn water into wine this year? Quote
TJJackson Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 I hate it.I suspect this means that Rudi and/or his agent have decided that the Bengals will not be able to tag him next year as some other key player will become a FA, and they'll take the 1 year and go into FA next year. I don't think they are bargaining with the Bengals in good faith.Sad, because I really like the guy, despite his shortcomings as a receiver. Quote
R-U-D-I Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 I say they work out a long term deal before the season starts... At least I don't have to change my moniker! Quote
skyline Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 I was hoping for a trade, but I'm not upset about this.I like Rudi... Quote
shworge Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 They can still trade Rudi, I would love to see the Bengals sign Lamont Jordan for aobut 3.5 million per year and trade Rudi for a mid second round pick. Quote
AGrizzlyBaer Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 yeah now that he signed the tendor we can trade him. thats what oakland is trying to do with charles woodsen Quote
HoosierCat Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 yeah now that he signed the tendor we can trade him. That's quite true, the Bengals will have him under contract and will be able to deal him if they choose. However, the move also puts pressure on the Bengals to poop or get off the pot. By signing, Rudi has taken away their option to remove the franchise tag if they find someone they like in FA. That puts a big anchor on their maneuverability in FA. Quote
Ox Posted March 2, 2005 Report Posted March 2, 2005 Alright so basically Rudi is the man. Watch Perry break out like a mad man this season. Oh well, those guys as a 1-2 punch is just fine with me. Quote
