HoosierCat
Seahawks cut him loose. Yeah, he's 42 but he's also a freak of nature. And yeah he didn't do a lot in Seattle but it isn't like they were very good anyhow.Chad would love it.If we're gonna let TJ walk and maybe sign Warrick to a big No. 2 contract after 2005...mite not be a bad way to bridge the gap for a year or two... ShulaSteakhouse
Ridiculous. First of all Rice is a washed-up has been and has nothing to offer a single team in this league other than mentoring abilities. The guy should've retired years ago.Second it would be a crime to see him in a Bengals' uniform. I think I would have to stop being a Bengals' fan if that ever happened. HoosierCat
Joisey why not recommend they go ahead and sign Satan while you are at it? And you don't think it'll take a deal with devil to get the Bengals a Lombardi? As for Jerry Rice being washed-up, shula, you can only pray to whatever god or God or gods you worship that you're half as "washed up" as Rice at 42. Mr. Washed Up, in his worst season ever, still managed more yards than Kelly Washington, the alleged answer to out TJ conundrum.Yeah, having Jerry Rice here to offer Squirrel Boy a few tips...yeah, crap, that'd suck. Not to mention the fact he's Chad's idol.I'd rather resign TJ...but if he walks we could do worse. :player:
jditty47
i dont want rice. he needs to retire bad. hes doing worse than what larkin did. at least larkin realized he should put em up.
ShulaSteakhouse
Regardless of the fact if he's washed up or not Joisey, I never, ever want to see him in a Bengals' jersey. Do you remember the eighties? I of course respect Rice tremendously as a player but I have no desire to see an arch nemisis in stripes, ecspecially one on his last legs. There's better, cheaper players to be had if they need a WR that bad also.I just can't believe a Bengals' fan is wanting to watch Jerry freakin' Rice play for the Bengals. I don't care if he was in his prime years even.Maybe this sounds silly to the younger generation of fans but it's like Jerome Bettis or Bernie Kosar or Ray Lewis playing here, I don't care how good they are, some things just aren't right. bengalsfan33
Nah, I love Rice and everything, but I feel that we need a younger receiver that will stick around a few years. Rice has maybe one more year in him, so I wouldn't take a chance on singing him...
Bobcat Bengal
Athletes are self-delusional.Geez.They think they can play forever, forever-eva, forever-eva.....Look at Evander Holyfield.
jjakq27
Jerry's got a special connection with the Bengals. Don't remind me...... If the price is right, I think he could be a contributor....twenty years after what should have been. BTW, what's Eddie Brown doing these days? Beaker
Rice should NEVER be allowed to be a Bengal...ever.
Zilla
Rice could be huge in developing young recivers. People around here think its a good idea to keep Kantna around to help Palmer.I think that Rice might be a good teacher for Wash, Chad and mabye if we draft a reciever as well.I dont know , he might know what hes talking about? Hes had an OK career.
jditty47
ya he did good at developing the seahawk receivers last year. did u see their improvement in the playoffs? f**k that pass on rice. he aint a teacher, hes just used to be a super talent that no one can match or will match. Do you remember the eighties? Vividly. Get over it. It isn't Rice's fault we lost two Super Bowls.I'm still waiting for a better suggestion. Keep TJ? I like that best but it appears the Bengals think he's too pricey. And that certtyainly means they won't go after Burress, or anyone else decent. So then what? Focus on the 30+ crowd (Mason, Muhammed) and hope one of them draws little enough interest to be forced to sign here cheap? Now, if you want to talk about "same old Bengals BS" that'd be it. Not that it would work anyhow -- someone would just swoop in, match our "reasonable" offer and add a few years of funny money to puff the deal up (like the Raiders did with Sapp last year). So in the end it sounds like Chad-Warrick-Washington, i.e. "go to war with what we have" again.
Ox
I say pick up Rice only if we can talk boomer into coming back to throw to him. That a way at would at least be funny.
membengal
Joisey---my Satan question was tongue-in-cheek, but this comment is serious...what decade is this?If it is still the 00s decade, then, no, I don't want Rice. CJ is getting all the mentoring he needs just fine from his coaches. We don't need to waste a roster spot on a guy even older than me at a position like WR. We just don't. HoosierCat
We don't need to waste a roster spot on a guy even older than me at a position like WR. Perhaps not...but I'm still looking for better options. We could keep TJ, which I'd prefer...but the Bengals apparently consider him overpriced. We could go after someone "good," like a Plexiglass or Mason...but if Muhammad's deal in Chicago is any indication that's a $5 million/year-plus scenario. Unless they're prepared to tell Warrick to pack his bags, that won't happen. We could go with what we have...but Warrick remains an injury question mark and K-wash hasn't even been able to beat out TJ, who I am reliably informed is just a one-year wonder who isn't worth his pay grade. We could let TJ go, let FA pass us by at WR, and draft a WR in the first round. But, setting aside the howls of protest by Bengals fans if they use the first-rounder on offense again, to get a big, speedy, instant-impact type (Williams, Williamson) they'd have to trade up.Or...the Bengals can let others land the big fish in FA (including TJ) and then pick at the leftovers. (And let's face it, that's been the usual approach.) I'm betting Rice will be one of those -- in which case the Bengals could do worse. jakbo
Jerry Rice needs to retire. If he wants to be in football, why doesn't he coach or something? I'm sure there are plenty of teams out there willing to give him a shot coaching the receivers. I wouldn't mind him coming here as a coach, however, I don't want to see him playing for us at all.
