BengalszoneBilly
As it was, the offense earned this L. We're not gonna agree on this one Joisey. The offense was playing from behind after the defense gave up easy early scores (again) to an offense that just isn't that good! Playing from behind puts undue pressure on a young QB still struggling to grasp a new offense, and his receivers trying too hard to make something work, and to do it quickly. Hence bad execution and mistakes.I feel if the Bengals offense had the opportunity to play with a normal (as in one that doesn't suck) defense for one game, we would see a difference in their execution and performance knowing they weren't going to have to score a ton of points just to have a CHANCE to win!Look at it from the offenses point of view. They watch the "D" at practice every day. They line up against them regularly. They KNOW how bad they are, and they know how bad the next team is going to use them like shake and bake bags! So the pressure to score big points to compensate for that never goes away. Why, just for one game, cannot the defense repeat anything close to what they did against New England in the preseason...Why? With Palmer we expected growing pains with this seasons offensive unit. We we're told the defensive problems would be addressed, yet it has only worsened.

Hence bad execution and mistakes. I agree with your point about how the D put the team behind early. My point is that they promptly turned around and fixed their mistake by scoring a TD of their own and getting TO's that gave Palmer & Co. the ball on the Browns' doorstep. Again, it was a 4-point game at the half, and I hardly regard that as an insurmountable lead. Even going into the fourth they were only down 7.If you want to talk about how the offense views the defense, how about how the D sees the O? They have to know know that these guys can't score to save their lives. Take away the two TDs the D has scored this year and subtract the two TDs the O has allowed on turnovers, and the offense has generated a net of 55 points, or an 11 per game average. jditty47
the defense fixed their mistakes for what, half a game. the 2nd and 3rd quarters the D played good. Unfortunately there is 60 min in a game and a 1st and a 4th quarter. Our D lost us this game but the offense sealed it.

Didn't we expect problems with a new QB? I believe we did. And you can't tell me the defense is surprised by problems scoring with the offense. They HAD to expect as much, and they HAD to realize they would have to shoulder more of the "load." They have shouldered even less than they did last season. This, after all the talk of improving the defense, and we Bengal fans are insulted by this travesty that ol' "Five Minute Frazier" has as his unit.I'm not saying the offense is without fault. Far from it. The fact is we expected less from the offense and more from the defense. We're getting MUCH less from BOTH!

The fact is we expected less from the offense and more from the defense. We're getting MUCH less from BOTH! Actually, we're getting the same from the D and less from the O. The D was a bad joke last year and remains a bad joke today. Perhaps that's why I'm more focued on the O. Last year's defense was like a car without an engine. It wouldn't run, though it could occasionally roll if it was on a downhill slope. In the offseason, we put some new tires on the car, waxed it, and installed a nice stero...but still no engine. So I can hardly blame it for still not running. As for the offense, certainly we figured it would have its struggles with Palmer taking over. The thing is, however, that Palmer really hasn't been the issue. He's made his share of rookie mistakes and has plenty to work on -- but when your receivers are dropping passes like the ball was coated with butter, what can you do? The Rudi-led run game has been unspectacular so far, the o-line has been riddled by injury, and the offensive playcalling typically questionable. And prior to the season, we were counting on all those things not to happen. The o-line had to protect Palmer and open holes for Rudi -- and he had to get yards -- despite facing fronts loaded to stop the run. They haven't. The WRs had to make plays and catch the ball. They haven't. Key skill players on offense had to stay healthy. They haven't. And Palmer's gun was supposed to open up the downfield pass. It hasn't -- and whether that's a coverage, protection, or playcalling issue I don't know, probably a bit of all three. To me, that is a much, much, much bigger disappointment than the performance of the defense, because the offense was working last year, at least about half the time. And so far this year, they've regressed to the point where they can't collectively tie their own shoes. Palmer I expected to struggle -- but not Chad! Anyhow, that's where I'm coming from. The D does indeed suck mightily, but that was predictable going in. The offensive collapse has been nothing short of a disaster.
BengalszoneBilly
Actually, we're getting the same from the D and less from the O. Dammit Joisey!! Didn't I tell you we weren't going to agree!?!

jjakq27
It's actually 63. I think it was in 1997 when Boomer came back for his last year.

Jonboat
I couldn't agree more that you win in the trenches & they've been getting their a$$es handed to them on both sides of the ball . We do need to look for a D-lineman, OG, TE in the draft/FA . As far as the injuries you can't use that as an excuse but you can't tell me that doesn't have a major effect on the team. I would've have loved to have KA/ Chamberlin play instead of Hardy & to me the O-line seems to be breaking down on the left side, the majority of the time ,where we've had injuries. How bout not having P-dub we're seeing the effects of that right now with teams able to just focus on CJ But we got what we got & have to deal with it. Last weeks loss was a team loss ! The O-line hasn't been doing $hit compared to last year they have to get it going so youre right the Off or lack of it has been the biggest surprise/disappointment to me, after losing out on the FA to address the D-line I guess I haven't been surprised to see them struggle. I pray the O-line can gel & soon or I'm afraid we may not win another game..... well maybe one more we have the Clowns in the jungle for a little pay back :player: GO BENGALS!!! BengalszoneBilly
As far as our O-line, I just think the defenses they face are better than last year. Plus the predictable play calling doesn't help either.
