What We All Knew

  • gregcook68 changed the title to Come on Bengal Fans . . . . .

Unfortunately yes, all we have is next year...

Here's where I fall this morning.
We (Bengals fans) are all dead, that's right, I said it... DEAD.
We were once horrible people who have done horrible things while we were of the living.
As our eternal punishment, we have all been sent to the, before now unknown, 10th circle of hell.  Or as we all have come to call it, Cincinnati.
In Cincinnati, Satan (Mike Brown) has formed this outrageous and unspeakable evil known as "The Bengals".
This is the part of hell where hope truly goes to die.  Where year after endless year, we are given the curse of hope, only to be cast into the horrific fire of despair yet again.
This fire of despair lasts for months until we are pulled from that agony to once again be given hope in what the ancient philosophers called "The draft".
Despite how amazing and beautiful "The draft" appears and no matter how many magnificent, mythical free agents come to save us, it will never be enough.
The season beings YET AGAIN only to see our body parts being ripped away in the form of injuries, ineptitude, and false prophets where God's light cannot shine.
Regardless of us being ripped to shreds, we continue to hold onto hope, spending money, cheering for our tormentors, and defending them and their abilities to save us.
There is no escape.  There is no path that leads to heaven and a Super Bowl Championship.  Only continued pain, sadness and a never ending hope that gets extinguished.
"THERE IS ALWAYS NEXT YEAR" is the call to arms as we are cast back into the fire.
WE ARE IN HELL !!!

Ok everyone, hope you all have a great day !!
Cheers !!

My belief is a 7-10 finish, at best.

What will be different about 'next year'!  EVERYTHING is imploding!!

YES, Burrow is having a good year, but his doctor said the wrist will NEVER be 100%!

Management has drafted, gotten FAs, probably spent more money on players since Katie took over 99% of the team, than they spent the 20+ years MB has been the owner and, outside of Orlando Brown, all of them have turned out to be average at best!

Army, the Texans aren't looking much better.

I've just surrendered the fact that my career as a Cincinnati sports fan, dating back to Crosley Field and Nippert Stadium, will have to be content with 3 WS Championships for the Reds, and 3 AFC Championships for the Bengals!

The icing on the cake though is the biased admission of the referees. They admitted that, when Brady was with the Pats, they got the close calls, and even Aaron Rodgers got some heat for speaking out about a 'roughing the passer' penalty that was called FOR him, and said that it wasn't even close to a ‘roughing the passer’ call. The bias on calls continue with the NEW Brady and Patriots, Mahomes and Chiefs. The NFL doesn't flag penalties anymore, they just fine the players.

Once again Bengal fans, goodnight Irene, and the last one out please turn the lights off!

Speaking of next year, while I always hate rooting for the Cowboys, a win tonight would bump us up to 10 in the draft.

https://tankathon.com/nfl

As for who to take, both cbs and tankathon’s mocks have them selecting Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty.

I don’t see it, but it would be soooo Bengals to

1. Cut your star RB because $

2. Sign a cheap FA RB

3. FA gets hurt, so trade a late draft pick for a RB

4. Bench new RB after he fumbles on his first carry

5. Waste more $ on taxi squad RBs

6. Use first round pick on RB and pay him more money than your star RB (see 1. above) was making

I just don’t see anything changing HC.  After 57 years of different coaches and players I used to think it was Mike Brown.

But after he’s given MOST of the control to his daughter, I can no longer put it on him and have to believe it’s a family affair!

Either way I’m running out of time to see anything beyond the already 3 AFC Championships!

None. See:

https://www.si.com/nfl/bengals/news/andrew-whitworth-bengals-offer

Whitworth was entering a contract year and coming off one of his best seasons in 2014. He asked for an extension, but the front office was silent and didn't communicate with him about their plans to select his replacement early in the draft.

Whitworth voiced his displeasure in an interview shortly after the draft, which led to Katie and Troy Blackburn doubling down on their mistake to take Ogbuehi and Fisher.

“After I went out in the media and said there wasn’t any communication, they [Katie and Troy Blackburn] brought me in the next week and said ‘we’re going to move forward with these two guys and we think you’re done,'" Whitworth said on Willie Anderson's Instagram.

Bengals owner Mike Brown stepped in during the 2015 season. Cincinnati was 2-0 and on their way to an 8-0 start. He made the decision to keep 'Big Whit' around for at least one more year.

“Midseason of that year, Mike (Brown) and I ended up sitting down as we always did usually to talk ball," Whitworth said. "He decided... him — not anybody else — Mike decided on his own that he wanted me to stick around another year so he ended up giving me a one-year extension, just between him and I.”

Whitworth agreed to a one-year, $9 million extension. The Bengals would keep their leader through the 2016 season, but the damage was already done.

As Whitworth entered free agency for the first time in his career, he knew the Blackburns would be the ones negotiating his deal with the Bengals.

"I was not as angry when that went down because really it all went down two years before," Whitworth said. "It wasn’t that I wouldn’t have taken a Bengals deal to come back. The Bengals offered me 50 percent, 60 percent of what every team in the league offered me.

See... no hope.

It's a good thing my father brainwashed me at a young age to be a die hard fan of the hometown team.
Minus that, I would have left decades ago.  If it wasn't for my son and his love of the Texans, all of my rooting would still be the Bengals alone.
Now I'm about a 60/40 clip that still leans the Bengals way.  That has narrowed through the years.

I have been to Houston twice this year for games and my son and I went to Indy for that game.  Might still get to one more before it's all said and done.
I only went to the Bengals/Commanders game this year and have no plans to attend any more.
I don't buy Bengals gear any more, with the last time being a Bengals Burrow jersey a couple years back.

They just seem to fuck it up and ruin my enjoyment of pro football more often than not.
It's really quite old...

You may be right HC, but everything you've quoted above has happened while daddy is STILL alive and the owner on paper.

Opinions are like elbows and everyone has one, but after daddy is gone, and if she DOES come to the realization that daddy's approach has never worked since he took over after her grandpa died, and MAY decide to change it up, since she won't have the guilt of daddy still being around!  Daddy's way has only gotten the franchise one AFC Championship in 34 years!

Army, I'm pretty sure you will agree that the ONLY hope we have is for her to change it up OR sell the franchise.  Outside of that all we can do is like we've done for 57 years is put our failed hope in 'next year's draft and fantasy trades and FA moves'!

Thank God I enjoy the draft process as much as I do.
However, that's more of a product of my love for college football and reviewing the players coming into the league.
The Bengals never make big moves in the draft and I think there's a place for making targeted moves.
With how little certainty there is in the draft picks panning out, giving up future picks to get someone above average is less concerning to me.
But I get that maybe having more picks increases your odds of getting a stud.  I just don't see that happen here more often than not.

Look at what the Texans did the year before when they drafted Stroud and then traded future picks to get Will Anderson.
Offensive and defensive rookies of the year that year and have been a huge part of the success they are having now.

I'm not saying that is something they should do every year, but put more time into getting the guy you want and go get them.
Take the chance.  Take a shot.  You know, as opposed to sitting on your hands hoping a great player reaches your spot.

However, that takes a solid approach to scouting, soooooooo, yeah.

Here’s PFF’s choice, just out today.

Quote

ROUND 1 (12): OT JOSH SIMMONS, OHIO STATE

Simmons earned a career-high 86.7 PFF pass-blocking grade before a season-ending injury in Week 7, as he allowed just two pressures from 158 pass-blocking snaps in the first six games of the season. He has started at both tackle spots in college, which adds some versatility to him as a prospect.

ROUND 2 (43): CB DARIEN PORTER, IOWA STATE

Porter has posted an elite 90.5 PFF coverage grade this season, with just four receptions allowed on 160 coverage snaps. At 6-foot-4, he is a tremendous athlete for his size and could be a slam-dunk selection on Day 2.

ROUND 3 (98): S BILLY BOWMAN JR., OKLAHOMA

Bowman has generated PFF coverage grades above 70.0 in each of the past three seasons, playing 600 or more snaps in all of those years. Over the past three seasons, he has racked up 11 interceptions and has recorded 50 defensive stops.

ROUND 3 (99): DI DARRELL JACKSON JR., FLORIDA STATE

Jackson has been a solid pass-rusher for Florida State this season, posting a 72.9 PFF pass-rushing grade and accumulating 24 total pressures, including four sacks and two quarterback hits, from 214 pass-rushing snaps.

So no defensive line help until the end of the 3rd round and only a DT?
No thought of adding a DE?

Lets see...  yeah, that sucks balls.
Did they even review the Bengals this season?

The Bengals are going to have a real shot at the top DT in the draft and would be wise to do just that if so lucky.
Well, that is unless they decide to roll out 2024's version of the Dead Cat Bounce.

JUST FUCKING LOSE
