I think the add a DL before an RB. Yes, but both are considered DT's. The DE spot has been in this same position since OTA's began. That's one of the reasons they had Freeney in for a look see. I've been sitting and wondering what they've been waiting on to add another DE. If any of the group of Dunlap, MJ, Hunt or Clarke get dinged, they are f*cked. Counting on the likes of Hunt and Clarke as the ONLY backups doesn't make me comfortable in the least. Quote
volcom69 Posted September 4, 2016 Report Posted September 4, 2016 Wow making this team better I see, just awesome Quote
HoosierCat Posted September 4, 2016 Report Posted September 4, 2016 Are they trading McCarron? They can't be carrying 3 QBs in the active roster. Quote
TJJackson Posted September 4, 2016 Report Posted September 4, 2016 was a 6th round pick of the 49ers this year, clearly a project from: http://www.nfl.com/draft/2016/profiles/jeff-driskel?id=2555262 6'4" 234lbs 4.58 40yd Overview Driskel was supposed to be the "next Tim Tebow" at Florida, a Maxwell Club High School Player of the Year who presents a dual threat with his arm and feet. He started for the Gators as a sophomore, winning 10 games with good statistics (63.7 completion percentage, 12 touchdowns versus five interceptions, 408 rush yards). His third and fourth years in Gainesville werent what he desired, however, as he took a medical redshirt in 2013 due to a broken leg and then was relegated to a part-time starter the following year. Driskel finished his career on a high note as a graduate transfer at Louisiana Tech, earning Conference USA Newcomer of the Year and honorable mention all-conference recognition (4,033 passing yards, 28 touchdowns, seven interceptions). Analysis Strengths Prototypical build and athleticism. Quick-footed signal-caller with rapid setup in the pocket. Has active, bouncy feet while turning and scanning from target to target. Possesses arm strength and pace on his throws to challenge playmaking cornerbacks in man and instinctive linebackers in zone. Can get ball out quickly with the flick off his wrist. Fundamentally sound with good footwork to balance himself before driving the ball with good weight transfer and hip rotation. Dangerous runner outside the pocket and can escape with suddenness. Good open-field speed and ability to operate in zone-read packages. Willing to throw the ball away and move to next play rather than take unnecessary sacks. Accurate and confident in short passing game. Weaknesses Struggles to lead receivers with throws, forcing them to break stride or adjust to throws behind them limiting their yards after catch. Short arms passes when throwing on the move causing issues with under-thrown balls. Accuracy drops substantially on throws down the field, with overthrows robbing him of big plays despite receivers having a step on cornerbacks over the top. Anxious when pocket gets turbulent and will occasionally feel pressure that isnt there. Draft Projection Rounds 5 or 6 NFL Comparison Drew Stanton Bottom Line Driskel still has the size, arm strength and athleticism that made him the top-rated quarterback coming out of high school, but he hasnt experienced enough growth at the position due to his rocky path to the draft. A positive 2015 helped Driskell regain some confidence, but hes not where he needs to be yet. With his upside and traits, Driskel is worthy of a day three selection and could yield dividends with patience and coaching. Related Links Brandt: Official Louisiana Tech pro day results Quote
TJJackson Posted September 4, 2016 Report Posted September 4, 2016 I can absolutely see this guy on the practice squad, but the 53? theres no freakin way 1 Quote
HoosierCat Posted September 4, 2016 Report Posted September 4, 2016 This is insane. Are they going to cut Roach or Fedeljem or Wright to keep a third project QB? What. The. Fuck? anyhow, no one the bengals cut got claimed so all are PS eligible. Quote

But to put him on the PS they'd have to cut him and he'd have to go through waivers again. And even if they are trading AJ no way this guy is ready to be a 2. Nuts nuts nuts. Quote
HoosierCat Posted September 4, 2016 Report Posted September 4, 2016 HAHAHAHA spin it, Hobson baby! Quote
TJJackson Posted September 4, 2016 Report Posted September 4, 2016 Yep, thats all QBs need to do - run 40 yards on every play Quote
TJJackson Posted September 4, 2016 Report Posted September 4, 2016 To be clear - I like this kid ON THE PRACTICE SQUAD Seems he had some good games in the preseason. Big, fast, athletic, and big arm - all good things. I am fine with him displacing Wenning (and this may seem to be a bit of a broken record, but.....) ON THE PRACTICE SQUAD Quote

This move reaks of 'old Bengals', meaning SoP is the driving force. They can't identify one player to come in and shore up DE depth but, man, we are SET now for QBs. Heck, no oneclaimed Aaron Murray, which means the Bengals liked Driskel more than Murray. Silly stuff indeed. 1 Quote
HoosierCat Posted September 4, 2016 Report Posted September 4, 2016 Yeah, this one is inexplicable. Mikey busting out of his locked closet makes as much sense as anything, esp with Hob's lame "well he looks good" butt covering. Anyhow, Tra Carson reportedly signed to the taxi squad. Quote
TJJackson Posted September 4, 2016 Report Posted September 4, 2016 I am sitting here trying to find rationale for this move The best I can come up with is: 1) they liked him in the draft and would have taken him had he slid a bit more 2) claiming him on waivers gives them a chance to bring him in for an extended looksee before any other team can 3) while they hold onto him, other teams are firming up their own practice squads, and now he's out of sight out of mind of the other teams 4) After negotiating a higher than normal PS salary-to-be with him, they release him later this week in an attempt to get him on the PS The problem with step 4 is that he will be one of the few (perhaps only) players released that day, he wont be "hidden" among a huge mass of released players Quote

HoosierCat Posted September 4, 2016 Report Posted September 4, 2016 So they dump a third round LB from last year for a late round scrub project QB. Well, maybe they re-sign him if he clears waivers. They'll have 2 spots after next Sunday. Quote
TJJackson Posted September 4, 2016 Report Posted September 4, 2016 Jim Owczarski Per league sources, #Bengals bringing WR Jake Kumerow, RB Tra Carson & DE Ryan Brown back to the practice squad. 1:28 PM - 4 Sep 2016 Quote
TJJackson Posted September 4, 2016 Report Posted September 4, 2016 Conspicuous by his absence from that list - Trey Hopkins, who is my very first signee to the PS if I am running the show Quote
HoosierCat Posted September 4, 2016 Report Posted September 4, 2016 I think Hopkins will be one of the two active roster signings after Billings and Peerman go on IR/return. CW is Dawson will get the final hole on the PS. Now all of a sudden Twitter is full of stories sourcing Bengals coaches about how he is immature, needs a wake up call, blah blah blah. Convenient.
