HoosierCat
Figured I'd start a thread to track all the inevitable offseason spin and rumors that will start about Monday. Here's some bits and pieces aggregated by walterfootball.com:The Eagles could target Jason Worilds in free agency, according to Jimmy Kempski, Philadelphia Inquirer. Worilds "would have signed with the Eagles" had it not been for the transition tag. - Adam Caplan The Browns are not expected to retain Jordan Cameron. - Tony Grossi, ESPN Cleveland Bryce Petty could be an intriguing option for the Browns, possibly as a one- or two-year stash option to develop him behind the scenes." - Jeremy Fowler, ESPN The Ravens have shown lots of interest in Devin Smith at the Senior Bowl. - Aaron Wilson

ArmyBengal
"WHY" the Browns are expected to retain Jordan is the question to answer.Money ?? Concussions ?? One of those i'm good with and one I am not.

HoosierCat
Yup. Typo. I think it would be a good move esp. if they are leaning dline or lb in the first.
ArmyBengal
I would have zero problem in seeing Winston return.I like the fact he pretty much puts himself in a backup role for the team, but you know he's one of those guys that would immediately be ready if needed. He simply seems to fit the mentality of our o-line. Hope he returns.
HoosierCat
I have to admit my first reaction was, Matt who?The Cincinnati Bengals are expected to re-sign offensive tackle Matt O'Donnell, according to TSN. According to the report, O'Donnell, who was playing for the Edmonton Eskimos in the Canadian Football League, was let out of his contract to make the move back into the NFL.According to TSN's Dave Naylor, O'Donnell is expected to sign with the Cincinnati Bengals, the same team he worked out for three years ago coming out of Queen's University and before he signed with the Eskimos. O'Donnell played 42 games for the Eskimos in three years.Matt O'Donnell, a 6-foot-10 340 pound offensive lineman, signed with the Cincinnati Bengals as a college free agent following the conclusion of the 2011 NFL lockout. Out of Queens University in Ontario, O'Donnell made his mark in college football when he named to the First-Team All-Canadian team in both 2009 and 2010 with the Queen's Gaels. He also won the Ontario University Athletics conference award for best lineman in 2010.O'Donnell was originally drafted by the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the CFL in the second round in 2011, but chose to pursue a career in the NBA after receiving a call from the Boston Celtics. All this despite not having played competitive basketball since his high school days.He was waived by the Bengals on Aug. 31, 2012./>http://www.cincyjungle.com/2015/1/30/7952163/matt-odonnell-expected-to-re-join-the-cincinnati-bengalsBetween this and Winston, I'd say this strongly points to them not wanting to take oline guy in the first. ArmyBengal
Well, if the plan for prepping for life after Whitworth is an equally old RT in Winston (still want him here) and a CFL signing, color me concerned.I didn't think they HAD to take an OT in the first, but I still wouldn't mind seeing one in the first few rounds. That O'Donnell kid is freakin' huge though !!!I'm looking at who might fall in the first to their spot or who I might like to see fall. How about Danny Shelton in a fall to #21 ??Honestly, if things were to fall the way many mocks have them falling, I would like to see a trade down. That being said, someone ALWAYS falls or someone is there they didn't think would be. Good grief. Taller than Dennis Roland. Can't see how this helps our 6'1"3/4 Andy Dalton.
kingwilly
Just saw the Hobson detail that McCarron will not liekly be the back-up, and they will go get a vet. So, yet again, McCarron will eat up a valuable spot on the 53? They draft him and find out his shoulder is toast. Now it seems he hasn't learned enough to be projected as the backup. I mean, what's the point? I didn't realize Mike Brown's home for wayward and unappreciated players was back in business....
ArmyBengal
Many thought McCarron was actually going to be given a shot to compete for the starters spot and now if Campbell leaves, they say they will go get a vet to be the #2 ?? Just go ahead and stick him on the practice squad and if someone plucks him, then whatever. No need to eat a roster spot for someone not considered any more than a 3rd stringer. Don't get me wrong, I don't think he should simply be labeled the 3rd stringer, but if that's how the organization feels, what's the point? HoosierCat
Well, if you buy into the theory of 2015 being a make-or-break year for Dalton and Lewis, then you want to hang on to McCarron. You've invested a draft pick and a year's training (albeit limited due to injury) so you want to see if you have anything. There's also plenty of time between now and September for AJ to show he deserves the No. 2 spot. I'd be very surprised if there isn't a competition for it, even if they bring in a vet or keep Campbell.

I can understand hedging their bets but they keep sinking time/energy in guys with such limited upside. Just puzzling.
GapControl
Suh? That's what I want to see. Why not? Then let's see that guard from SF Mike Iupati. Third, Julius Thomas from Denver. We've instantly upgraded both sides of the ball. And you know what, if we still have the cap space, grab Jerrmy Maclin from the Eagles. GapControl
I'm ready to hear why that scenario can't play out. Suh and two out of the other three turns this team into a force before the draft even arrives. Let's hear your thoughts as to why it can or why it can't happen! ArmyBengal
I suppose if the thought was that they didn't want to put the kind of money into the d-line that it would have cost to keep Geno, Dunlap, and MJ, then they sure as hell aren't going to go running after Suh. Not that I wouldn't love seeing him and Geno together, but i'm just thinking.Iupati for the o-line ?? Yes please. It's not that I think Boling is all that bad, but there's some talk that he wanted to see what the market was going to hold for him. With that thought in mind, the team should move to make whatever moves they can to improve the o-line.I've thought about Maclin as well. Mostly because i'm not as big a fan of the WR free agrent group as others are. Well, at least the ones I could see the Bengals going after. That being said, Maclin is going to be looking for a payday of his own after the season he had last year and of course we have our own WR that is going to be looking for a break the bank type of deal.I really don't know how things are going to unfold come free agency, but i'm at least intrigued at the moment, which is more than I can usually say when it comes to the Bengals and free agency. Along with AJ, there are a bunch of players coming due next year as well. I know the cap will be going up and I really hope that covers things moving forward. What I want to see is this team move on from the players that they need to move on from and make the effort to improve those positions. HoosierCat
We all know how it's gonna go down.On March 10 at 4 pm, free agency opens.Mike Brown will already be in bed snoring. Katie will be getting her hair done. Marvin will be out at a charity event. All the big names like Suh will be signed somewhere else by about 6 pm.Circa 7 pm, Hobson will post his annual updated story about how the Bengals refuse to "overspend" and that in any event they have no cap space once you factor in RFA tags, an injury pad and money that needs to be pushed into 2019 so they can re-sign Darqueze Dennard. Then after a week or so, with the shelves bare, the Bengals will go around back and root in the dumpster for leftovers. These will then be processed by Hobson in to stud signings that will put the team over the top. These "studs" will mostly be cut in August. And we will go to war with what we have.
