ArmyBengal
Hell, look at the Chicago game. The Bears had a game plan to get the ball out quick and it worked well for them the whole game. They executed better and then had a Bengals team that appeared to not really want to win after building a 21-10 lead. 101Airborne
IN case people don't know, the Lions have the top rated offensive pass protection in the league. Our line didn't do great against them, but it's not like they were up against some scrubs. Interestingly enough, the Bengals were second in that same category going into the Detroit game. I think we'll play the Jets pass much tougher this week. The Jets have a strong D, so we'll need all the defensive stops we can get.Our line put great pressure on Stafford. To his credit he was very quick in getting rid of the ball and sometimes he hurt himself by doing so. Case in point was their last drive where he would have helped his team more by taking a sack or two and keeping the clock running rather than chucking it out of boundsOne source showed that Stafford was the 3rd most pressured QB in Sunday's gamesJust to be clear, when I say they didn't play great against them, I am referring to getting no sacks. Additionally, a few of the big plays had the Bengals secondary in the right places, but the line failed to get to Stafford before he could throw. That is a credit to Stafford and his line. I presume the stat that they did well with was hurries?Isn't an intentional grounding counted officially as a sack? I could be wrong. We can't judge a line solely by sacks. A guy like Stafford or Peyton will not take many sacksYou know I'm not really sure if grounding counts as a sack or not, I'll have to look that up. But I'm not just talking the lack of sacks, if the line gets him making bad throws because of scrambles and there-by limits his passing yards, that's just as effective even if you can't bring him down. Unfortunately, they didn't exactly keep his passing yards low either, and it wasn't just because of the secondary. On that 50 yard touchdown, they let him step up through the pocket (Great protection by the Lions line) and bomb it to Megatron. All three defenders were in the right place on the secondary, if the line doesn't let themselves get pushed out on the flanks, Stafford likely does not make that throw and we save ourselves as touchdown. Granted that's just one example, and on other plays they did a good job, but over all I don't think they played that great, given that they failed to bring him down and, even if they created pressure, weren't able to limit his production very much. And, in their defense, the Lions have league leading pass defense, so that's not all that unexpected.
HoosierCat
Football outsiders' defensive line pass rush rankings count grounding as sacks. They have us ranked a sub-par 20th. I don't believe they account for hits and hurries.I agree that teams are looking to counter our rush by getting ball out quick, and that is part of the issue. But ye olde Mark I eyeball says they aren't getting the same kind of disruption they were last season even when QBs hang on to the ball for a few seconds longer. Michael Johnson was inches away from pounding him as he released that ball on 3rd and 18 or whatever. It was all Megatron. The D-line had flushed him out and back into the pocket and he was down to his last option: throwing up a Hail Mary. I really can't blame anyone on the Bengals D too much on that one. Kudos to Megatron and bad luck

The other guys have played pretty much the way they did last year

Stripes
It's probably worth remembering that last year's defense looked awful at times early in the season. Their stretch of absolute dominance came over the latter half of the 7-1 stretch and probably inflated their statistics a bit.

It always seemed like he was in the backfield making plays. If and when he is getting double teamed, then its up to the rest of the guys to step up. Hopefully they can start getting pressure on the QB, that can make a difference between a good defense and a dominate one. Not to mention maybe some turnovers will follow. essexjohnson
Dunlap is much more of a factor. He's been healthy. Geno has been scrutinized. He's at the top of every other teams scheme. He will figure it out,

ArmyBengal
Got a couple free tickets dropped into my lap this evening and am taking ArmyBengal Jr. down for some fun.Hopefully he doesn't retain too much of the language he's sure to hear, but we will manage. With all the restrictions these days, are blankets still allowed ?? The little dude is sure to get a bit chilly.I'm still in line with my original thought about this game and the Bengals winning it.Hope to see them move to 6-2 tomorrow !!! Two boys. The oldest was born in Texas and is now on a kick about how he loves the Texans. At least football season won't be boring in our household. He enjoyed the preseason game, so this will be a good time.Bengals- 24Jets-
Stripes
I want to predict a comfortable win, but the Jets defensive front and last week's 3rd down woes are leaving me shaky on that. Bengals 23-20, maybe even with another late Nugent kick.

ArmyBengal
My father in law dropped the tickets off last night and they are section 340.It's upper deck, but they are 4 rows up and right on the 50 yard line.Yeah, good times !!!I think the Jets defense is tough, but I also don't think they've faced much either. They have yet to face a top 10 offense and have faced some very poor ones.WHODEY !!! We play well at home in October. Maybe, 24-20 win. I think the D front gets to Smith a lot, their line is not very good. If we jump out early, Rex abandons the run and we can go after Smith. I also want to call a breakout game for our TEs, as NY does a crap job covering TEs.
