Does anyone like Andy Dalton?

Considering the upturn in the entire franchise's fortunes since I stopped posting regularly (and no doubt to the relief of you all on here), I'll probably stick to lurking but just to say, I like the cut of Andy's jib. Even if he is a carrot. Frankly, it's unlikely he'll ever be an "elite QB" but considering the desperately sad state of affairs the NFL has turned into wrt contact, he doesn't need to be. You no longer need a frigging robot like Manning who can thread the eye of a needle from 70 yds away and even he flubs multiple throws a game. If a DB looks at a receiver funny the flag is thrown these days. What Dalton does largely is avoid bonehead plays and in time the experience he gains could easily make him capable of taking this team deep into the post season.

As for Carson - not a single f**k given.

Hope you're all well.

After watching Andy's under throw of Green on the deep middle again Detroit, he got hit just as he released it. If he has any weakness, I'd say he's just a little undersized. An inch or two of height or 20 pounds and most of his critics would be gone. There are maybe 6 to 8 qb's in the league I'd take over him. It's probably another topic, but I'm not so sure I want a 100 million qb now that the rookie contracts are not ridiculous.

In the wake of two good showings, it seems like the media hate for Scut is growing more and more shrill. Espn has an In$ider article up claiming that he is the "weak link" holding back the team. I haven't read it, but I find it odd that it's one of their contributions from the football outsiders guys -- and Andy is the No. 10-ranked QB in the league according to their own DVOA ratings.

Then last night I clicked over to nfl.com and came across a video in which the question asked was, which of the top AFC teams is a pretender, not a contender. Two out of three cited the Bengals, because Dalton. Why? Well, they admitted he's doing well now but hand-waved that away and whined that he didn't play well against Houston in the wild card game last year.

Keep it up, Scut, you're making them crazy. thumbsup3.gif/>

Things like that are a damned joke. I could understand the "pretender" moniker if, say, we had a 5-2 record with wins against teams like the Jags and our losses coming from the Pats and Green Bay. If you beat up on weaklings and lose to every decent team you play, sure, there should be some concern about your playoff hopes. But as well all know, our beloved team has stepped up and put Brady, Rodgers and Stafford in their place, which makes the whole pretender thing just garbage spewed by guys with nothing better to bash on.

I could buy the pretender label due to the fact that we have yet to put together a complete, dominating performance. Basing it on Andy, not so much.

Gotta give LT credit in that clip...he called the Patriots the true pretenders, which I agree with completely. They don't have enough weapons on offense, and their defense is beat up beyond belief.

I'm not so sure that that's a good reason to call them pretenders though. If you can beat other very talented teams, even if you play them close, that is the very definition of a team that can contend. Contending is all about being competitive against the best teams you face, and that's exactly what the Bengals do. Pretenders blow easy teams away and put up padded stats against struggling opponents but turn around and lose to every decent team they face. They might look good stat and even win wise, but have yet to show they can beat anyone with a good level of talent. THat's just how I see the two terms anyway.

EDIT: To back up my point, the Bengals have a 5-2 record against what is so far the best win-loss ratio held by opponents in the NFL right now. We don't just win, we win against quality opponents who are also playoff contenders.

I see where you're coming from, but as we've discussed here, you've got to have the ability to put teams away. We've done well to pull out the win the past two weeks, but when the margin of victory is so close, all it takes is one bad bounce in overtime or late in the 4th quarter and the game is gone.

I'll feel a lot better about things if we can beat the Jets by a more comfortable margin this week.

Think Red Jesus had a good margin of victory today

Before this game

7th on yards,6th on completion 11th in TD 7th in QB rating beating tom brady in every department,

Not bad when he had slow start to the season...Im sure hes not gonna be having 5 TD games every week But I do feel like He'll throw 35 TDs and 4000 yards this season. if he doesnt slow down much

Who would of thunk a second round undersized pick could have surpassed our lofty first pick C.P. and we would have Geo for him and Jones for Chad?

Gio and Marvin acquired via grotesquely one sided trades? Tough article for any national media types to write, as the image of Mike as a ketchup packet-hoarding miser is still alive.

To admit he got the better of the universally revered Patriots organization will just have to go unreported.

But damn, our front office has made moves that paid huge dividends while Pittsburgh and New England's front offices, both media and nfl front office darlings, have basically done nothing but re-cinch the saddles on their franchise QBs.

No, Luck won.

How can that be? Luck wasn't up for the award. It was between Matt Ryan, RGIII and Dalton:

Looks like this week Dalton isn't even a candidate. Am I reading this right?

Frankly, Dalton's first 3 yrs would make most #1 overall picks feel more than satisfied.

The one thing he has avoided is going full retard. Minimise mistakes, don't cost the team wins etc. If the guys make the playoffs this season I think we at least end the one and done business. The D under Zimmer is looking even stronger than usual. Remember when losing a starting CB would be a disaster the size of which has not been seen since the days of trans-Atlantic cruise liners or zeppelins?

We've actually drafted some really potent weapons on the offense too which helps any QB, regardless of calibre. Finally the days of also building from the outside in that Marv used to spout are long gone. That was always bats**t insane. Strong in the trenches and every part of the team suddenly looks better.

So yeah, Dalton will never be a Peyton etc but if Flacco can win a SB and Matt Ryan can make it a single win away from a SB appearance in their 5th yrs then why not Andy?

My bad, it was Ryan. I knew he didn't win though.

I'm not seeing week 8 up yet, but I'm sure the winner will be Megatron.

How does Ryan win it with inferior numbers playing at home vs arguably the worst team in the NFC? He sure followed it up with a stinker yesterday

Luck did seem win something rookie of the week? Also well I'd love see Andy win it hard argue against tron who has a once in a decade type game.

AFC Offensive Player of the Week, I believe.

Here's the stats as of today for anyone less anal than I about looking at BS like this.

Total Yards - 2,249 - 4th

Comp. Per. - 65.6 - 8th

YPA - 8.06 - 6th (not bad for a dink and dunk QB)

TDs - 16 - Tied 4th

QB Rating - 99.0 - 6th

YPG - 281 - 7th

Overall he's statistically a top 10 QB.

Stats don't matter it's just misleading because we all know Dalton is s**t,He simply can't make NFL Throws...Seasons over time to throw rest of it so we can take a QB in the 1st round because they always work out ^.^

PS,Seriously though top 8 after rough start to the season is impressive.

OK, here's your chance to vote for Andy again for Fedex player of the week.
