walzav29 Posted December 13, 2012 Report Posted December 13, 2012 http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/cin/2006.htmBengals controlled their own destiny, and just couldn't get it done. Highlighted by the missed extra point vs Denver. The reason I bring it up is to ask do you think this team will handle it differently? Or because it's still Marv will it remain the same. Quote

skyline Posted December 13, 2012 Report Posted December 13, 2012 Yeah, definitely going with the Marvin thing. Since he was the one that missed the extra point and everything. The second we see him put a helmet back on, we'll know we're doomed. Quote

Most other organizations would have handed him a pink slip years ago. Quote

The second we see him put a helmet back on, we'll know we're doomed.I do but only because I think Pittsbugh and Batlimore are a mess, rather than Cincy being so good.I see them back into the 6 seed by beating Baltimore to end the season. Officially, they will crush tonight, and win out, beating Steelers and Ravens. They will then lose in wildcard game. Quote
jonf45uk Posted December 13, 2012 Report Posted December 13, 2012 I'd be more than happy to see back to back winning seasons, but i feel that it would be inspite of ratjer than because of the coaching staff. I still stand by the "marvin must go" ideal. IMO he should have been fired years ago, but that would have cost money, and we all know how the Bengals are for spending......God knows we've put up with enough years of mediocrity. Quote
walzav29 Posted December 13, 2012 Author Report Posted December 13, 2012 In my twisted Bengal brain, I'm pulling bigtime for a playoff appearance. Then I can blame any issues prior to 2011 to the previous poor character team, and now the Marvin has more say over personel he's built a team with more character along with talent. To me it will mean they are on their way. Quote
redsbengalsbucks Posted December 13, 2012 Report Posted December 13, 2012 Me. I'm still just hoping for two winning seasons in a row, anything else is gravy. Quote
Stripes Posted December 13, 2012 Report Posted December 13, 2012 Yeah I keep thinking this has all felt like reliving 2006.2006: start 3-0, drop to 4-52012: start 3-1, drop to 3-52006: get from 4-5 to 8-52012: get from 3-5 to 7-52006: finish 8-82012: ???I'm with you, RBB. I don't even care about the playoffs. Get a winning season. Get a win over one or both of the bullies. Don't lose to the awful Eagles. Quote
skyline Posted December 13, 2012 Report Posted December 13, 2012 Skyline - Do you think we'll make the playoffs?I honestly have no clue. It's hard to tell which team is going to show up on a given night. My gut tells me Pitt will pull it out, but I haven't lost hope. All I'm saying is that Marvin coached the team well enough in 2005 and 2006 to make back to back playoff appearances for whatever that's worth. And, in 2005, I feel very confident that he would have notched a playoff win (or two or three) were it not for the Palmer injury. We really had the Steelers' # that year.Yes, the HC ultimately takes the blame, and I get where you guys are coming from. That said, it's also quite naive to look at the situation and not admit that some things are beyond his control. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted December 13, 2012 Report Posted December 13, 2012 I don't know if this team is going to handle it differently or not, but that's part of why I am so interested in tonights game. It will be telling in answering that question. If they come out strong and beat up on an Eagles team they should beat, I will regain some of that faith. If they come out flat and lose tonight, I will just chalk it up to being the same old same old. Regardless of what happens with the 2012 Bengals, I don't want Marvin back.I use to defend him, but those days are long gone.Longest tenured coach in Bengals history and sports a losing record with losses in TWO playoff appearances. Thanks for pulling us out of the basement, but it's time to move beyond mediocre. HoosierCat Posted December 13, 2012 Report Posted December 13, 2012 Season looks alot like 2006And 2003, 2004, 2007 and 2011. In '03 they were 7-5 going into the final quarter of the season. They finished 1-3 to go 8-8. In 2004, they were at 6-6 after 12 and finished .500. In '07, they were 7-5 and finished 8-8. And last year they were 7-5 and went 2-2 to finish 9-7.This year, again 7-5 after 12. So far: 0-1.I'm not sure it's a coaching issue, or at least all a coaching issue. It's just a failure to assemble and maintain a good team. Some of that's on coaching, some on scouting, some on management and some on the players who have just mailed it in or behaved badly or just plain quit while continuing to draw a paycheck. Quote
Stripes Posted December 14, 2012 Report Posted December 14, 2012 The 2007 team was actually 5-8 through 12 games and finished 7-9, but the point stands: this franchise has trended towards [near] .500 in recent memory. Quote
cincy9275 Posted December 15, 2012 Report Posted December 15, 2012 nope because we had 3 games left and only had to win one to get in. this year we have to win them all to have a chance. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted December 15, 2012 Report Posted December 15, 2012 nope because we had 3 games left and only had to win one to get in. this year we have to win them all to have a chance.Well to be fair, if the Bengals win out, they are in. It's just that simple. If they beat the Steelers and lose to the Ravens, there's still a shot, but i'd rather just see them win out.Still don't think it will happen, but I sure will be rooting for them. After Pit loses to Dallas, and we take them to the shed, the Bengals dont need to win against the ratbirds! Quote
membengal Posted December 15, 2012 Report Posted December 15, 2012 Jets would need to lose too. If only we and jets are 9-7, they move on with better conference record. Quote
