Kazkal
Gotta say I love that we actually have a fearsome Dline Geno & Dunlap are simply monsters on the field and with the attention they draw it's giving M.J plenty of chances to use his athleticism...Mr Brown better be ready to bring out check book to lock up Geno & Dunlap for a very long time(I know it's early suggest that but you shouldn't even let those two sniff free agency)PS,I haven't got to watch many of games live mainly highlights until today but how are Still & Thompson doing in the rotation? volcom69
I love the d-line! Still and Thompson i think struggle some, but im hoping they soon break out, and if Still can next to Atkins look out.Ive been pretty impressed though with Gilberry for just coming last week, he has gotten some really good pressures as well. I really think good things will happen this year with this unit, and when the rookies start playing better look out.
HoosierCat
PS,I haven't got to watch many of games live mainly highlights until today but how are Still & Thompson doing in the rotation?Basically they've been invisible. The Bengals have not yet replaced Rucker, Fanene and Sims. The remaining guys (Dunlap, Atkins, etc) have been playing fine but the total rotation is way, way short of last year's production. My thoughts on it from last week here.
Stripes
The Bengals figure to finish week four near the top of the league in sacks, defensively.
ArmyBengal
While Dunlap was out, Atkins was the only one getting any kind of pressure, but with Dunlap needing to be accounted for, everyone seems to be getting into the mix. It really is amazing the type of impact he has on the d-line. Here's to hoping he can stay healthy, because our depth isn't near his level. MJ has been very good this season so far and the D-line as a whole did a great job stopping MJD. The problem with the D rests in the DB's hands. The Safeties have been bad, the CB's not much better. Hall has been average at best when playing and Newman and the rest have not been consistent. It is to bad that Dre and Prater both got hurt, either could have had a good chance at showing what they have compared to the trash currently being trotted out as DB's for the Bengals .What is up with Ioaka? Is he hurt also? He is still on the team, right?

Sure the rest are handling their assignments, but that can CERTAINLY be questioned prior to Dunlap coming back healthy. The only player anyone was talking about was Atkins of the front 4. Now MJ goes wild, Peko is doing dances after sacks, and so on since Dunlap has returned.I won't argue about the secondary, but the injuries have killed them there. When was the last time we played a game with only three CB's active ??Yeah, the safeties have been terrible.I was glad to see hope panned out with Crocker yesterday. Here's to hoping that continues !!! ShulaSteakhouse
Atkins is arguably the most dominant DT in the NFL. The glue seems to be Dunlap, without him, they seem pretty average outside of Geno. Hopefully MJ can continue to fulfill potential this year, so far so good with him. They can dominate sub-par teams, as they proved last year. This entire group and team needs to step-up against other good teams though, waiting to see how they do then.
volcom69
MJ yesterday didnt have a sack, but he was beating his guy alot, and Gabbert had to move up alot. So again he had good pressure, im hoping to see more out of him.If Still can continue to get snaps and improve, him and Geno inside on passing downs will be great.Im excited to watch Moch from what i saw in the preseason he is so fast, watching him duck under tackles was just awesome. If i were the bengals i would use him on passing downs, and just let him rush all the time, whether its with his hand down or him standing up. I hope he will play this weekend. MJ did cause one of geno's sacks sunday. MJ beat his man and forced gabbert to step up. MJ started to hit him but geno came from the other side and got gabbert first. HoosierCat
They need Fat Pat back out there. Hobson passed a comment yesterday in one of his stories that he could be back on the 21st against Pitt, but I don't know if that was based on anything more than knowing when PUP runs out. He did mention Sims in another question, tho so it seems the assumption is that he'll be back. Even if it takes a few weeks for him to play his way into shape, that would make him useful in December against the Cowboys, Eagles, Steelers and Ravens. HoosierCat
Part of a piece by Dehner at CBS:2. Solve red zone and goal-to-go defense problems. The Bengals defense improved since the disastrous three-game start to the season. They've hardly become the top-five force expected of them prior to the season. Many of those problems are occurring inside the red zone. The Bengals are allowing fewer yards of late, but every time opponents the red zone they are cashing in for six. Specifically, any bowing up inside the goal-line has become almost non-existent.Consider offenses scored touchdowns on nine of 10 goal-to-go situations this season. When was the lone stop? When Pittsburgh took a knee at the conclusion of Sunday's loss. Essentially, excluding the Steelers giving up that's nine trips inside the Bengals 10-yard line this year and nine touchdowns for the opponent. Not one stop. No team in the NFL has gone the entire season without forcing at least one field goal. The league average is 67 percent touchdown rate and thanks to Pittsburgh's victory formation the Bengals only rank 30th instead of dead last. . Red zone defense leaves as much to be desired. The Bengals allow a touchdown on 66 percent of trips into the red zone. The NFL average is 53 percent. That leaves Cincinnati ranked 29th in the NFL. Solution: The pass rush earns most of the headlines, but the Bengals need to improve against the rush. Stopping opponents in close quarters means winning in the trenches. That means a better reaction time and finish from the linebackers and more push from run stoppers like Domata Peko and possibly more snaps for rookie Devon Still at defensive tackle. I think they see Still more as an insider rusher; Brandon Thompson was the run-stuffer. But yeah, we clearly need better from Peko and where is Fat Pat??? The clock is ticking on PUP. If they don't flip the switch in two more weeks he can't come back at all. Must be some injury.Better MLB play wouldn't hurt either but that doesn't appear to be in the cards. But at least the Bengals have a goal: can they be the first team ever not to force at least 1 FG in goal to go situations? volcom69
Moving Geathers inside to DT killed the bengals last Sunday. I'm sorry but Geathers is not very good, and moving him inside only makes it worse. I do like Gilberry and think he needs to see more time over Geathers. I agree Peko really is not that great on passing downs, I like Atkins and Still in the Nickle, on run downs like Peko and Pat Sims if he gets back. We were all excited about Dunlap coming back, um where is he at? I see Geathers on the field more, but why not just play Dunlap more maybe he just comes on later in games.
