In-Season Roster Adjustments

Whalen has to be cut soon. Moch coming back next week and Sims after that. Muck might be back out too? It'll definitely be interesting.

It seems like they know Indy is waiting to pounce on Whalen so they're hoping to get something (trade) in exchange first. I doubt Indy will give us anything so they might as well cut him and watch him drive up I-74

Bengals sign the "Terminator".

In 2010, the Jets drafted fullback John Conner out of Kentucky. He became a darling of HBO’s Hard Knocks, a hard-hitting blocker about whom coach Rex Ryan routinely raved.

Earlier this season, the Jets cleared Conner off the roster with an injury settlement. They didn’t rule out the possibility of bringing him back.

Before they could, the Bengals intervened, signing Conner for a stretch run that may result in a playoff berth.

A Cincinnati-area native, Conner fills the spot created by the placement of fullback Chris Pressley on injured reserve. Pressley suffered a knee injury in Thursday night’s win over the Eagles. Pressley had appeared in all 14 games this season, starting seven of them.

Nope. He's now 100% healthy according to this from the Bengals website:

"Same John. He's been back seven weeks and hasn't missed a workout," said Clif Marshall, director of Ignition who helps out in the Bengals weight room one day a week. "Getting to know Chris the past few years, they're very similar guys. They're both blue-collar guys. Great work ethic, don't say much, and they're out there to knock your block off. He's 100 percent healthy."

He went to Lakota High School here in the northern 'burbs of Cincinnati and he's been working out at Ignition, a sports complex in Mason. I think that's where the Bengals go to practice on bad weather days due to their not having a practice bubble

Dre placed on IR. Knee apparently still a problem.

Bengals also claim WR Dane Sanzenbacher.

Really sucks about Kirkpartick. I guess the good news is that the team was good enough that they didn't miss him too badly.

The plus side is that we'll basically gain another 1st round pick next year. The downside is that he'll have to go through all the typical rookie mistakes that you'd like to have seen him get out of his system this season. dry.gif

Another Ohio State product. He had great hands and had some speed as well.

Just never really caught on anywhere. Sort of like Mardy Gilyard that was just cut by the Jets for the second time.

Sucks about Dre. Hope he gets a good offseason of rehab in and comes back to camp ready to go.

Bengals have done well adding guys this season. Sanzenbacher is no slouch. Hope it works out for both the Bengals and the player. As for Dre, i know this season hasn't gone like either he or us fans wished, but he is young and has a bright future. Certainly underscores the Bengals' wisdom in signing so much quality veteran depth at the CB position. We are back in the playoffs with those guys. Dre,Shawn Prater, and Brandon Ghee, will be interesting additions to the mix going into 2013.

Yeah, you knew Joiner wasn't going anywhere when the Bengals decided to hold onto his rights.

If he pulls his head out, he could be a nice addition to the defense for sure.

Not like they couldn't use the diversity to play DE and LB and he was 4th in the nation the year before with 13 sacks.

They probably still need to address both positions in the draft, but he will certainly get a look.

I feel for Nugent. Has there ever been a PK with more injuries in their career ??

Not wanting to change the thought of the thread, but I wonder how the injuries to these guys changes what the team is thinking heading into the draft. I'm sure they have better things to worry about at the moment, but i'm curious nonetheless.

Well, over the last five years Nugent has had three season-ending injuries now (quad, knee, calf) so you have to think they will at least look at some kickers on film after the season's done. As for Dre, who knows? I've seen plenty of speculation on the nature of the injury, but what's fact and what's fiction I don't know. Given that injury, Ghee's inability to stay healthy and (as TJ noted) the age of the secondary, I think they almost have to go back to the DB fairly early in April.

So the Bengals pick up another WR for the reserve roster, meaning he won't be available to us until next season.

Lavasier Tuinei from Oregon.

Yeah, he got cut by Seattle, but there's something that really intrigues me about the kid:

He's 6'4, 220 lbs.

His body control and awareness of getting both feet down are really apparent in the video.

I was curious, so I went looking and found this video.
