redsbengalsbucks
I like either DT pick, just dont like both DT picks. LB, RB or WR should have been the pick. This seems like a waste unless someone gets hurt early.
Sea Ray
i don't think sims parts ways this year... coaching staff is too high on him. how is his rehab coming? maybe this somehow spells the end to robert geathers??I remember reading that Pat Sims said after he signed that he was working hard on getting healthy. That didn't sound good to me this far out. Also I've got a book laying around here that had Still #1 on the DL list and Thompson #2; both 1st rounders. I believe it said something to the effect of "they were the best of a deep DL class".

This seems like a waste unless someone gets hurt early. The problem isn't someone getting hurt early, it's someone getting hurt late. Back in '09 the D wore down at the end of the year in part because of Peko's knee injury. Last year the line went to pot after Sims got hurt. The result in both cases was one-and-done in the playoffs.
ArmyBengal
While I can get behind this pick, it's easily the one I dislike the most since we took Still earlier. Not knocking it and not b*tching, but if I have to pick one, this is it.Nice problem to have in my opinion. volcom69
Marvin Lewis said they have drafted two different kinds of DT, Thompson is more of the run stuffer with PekoStill is more of the pass rusher, so i actully really like both these DT moves. We have depth now. We didn't last year or in '09.

That makes this a wasted pick in my book. I'd rather had some depth at LB or competition at RB.Like I said I like either DT pick, just not both. membengal
Sims will be cut before they expose either of those picks to waivers and the PS. And I am fine with that.
HoosierCat
So you think they will keep Sims and both rooks? I think even if they dump Sims the depth is better. The d-line has had problems with injury because of the emphasis on DE/DT tweener types. This swings the pendulum back toward a balance. And I am fine with that.At last report (from John Thornton) Sims was still rehabbing and not in football shape, which is why he didn't draw any interest in FA. So who knows what they really have there right now, and what shape he'll be in come camp. He's definitely on the bubble.

membengal
If the defensive line can maintain beast mode for 4 quarters, the LBers we have will look better by extention.
101Airborne
I couldn't be happier with the draft simply because it continues the shift away from what we used to do, reach for "needs" that left us with lower value guys who may not even work out. While I too thought we might have grabbed an RB by now, the simple improvement to our OL along with Law Firm might be all we need to see a 2009 style run game again, which I for one would be very happy with. Even if it turns out that we have a bigger need at RB than the coaches think, at the very least we aren't drafting like we used to, consistently god awful. Yeah, it's been a good draft and it's gotten better as it's gone along. Seems like a very WCO draft to me. Possession wideout, second TE, run-blocking guard and some big uglies for the defense. In other words: Jay Gruden at work.
ArmyBengal
If it's truly Gruden at work, he should be next in line for the head coaching spot if/when Marvin should leave.
Horsemen
Not a fan, not when DT/DE hybrid beast Jared Crick still on the board at the time.

Also, I agree with you, it is a very WCO type draft, though I imagine Zimmer is just as much responsible for what's going on as Gruden. But this is the other thing that's making this draft so good, the Bengals have a freaking identity on offense and defense for once. Identity means you can better select the players who aren't just talented or athletic, but who also fit into the identity. To me, identity has long been what has made really successful teams stay successful and has been one of the biggest issues with the perrenial losers. The Ravens and Steelers have an identity that is well understood even by fans of other teams while I don't even think Browns fans themselves could really tell you what the hell the Browns are really trying to do. Then again, I could just be full of s**t!
HoosierCat
Then again, I could just be full of s**t!I don't think so. You're absolutely right: you gotta have an identity -- and I like what I see of the "new Bengals" so far this draft.
