ArmyBengal Posted February 25, 2012 Report Posted February 25, 2012 Gotta disagree Army. There are plenty of WRs in the NFL who are under 6'... and they aren't all slot guys. DeSean Jackson, Greg Jennings, Steve Smith, Percy Harvin, and Santana Moss quickly come to mind. Hell... Mike Wallace is listed at exactly 6'0".There are multiple ways to be a productive WRin the NFL right now. Wright has great speed, and is an amazing threat after the catch. I don't want a 1st round WR, but he'd be on my short list of guys to take. You know Derek, I was looking at that very thing after I posted and will agree. That being said, he's not the guy I would want to be Green's running mate should we take a WR in the first. HoosierCat Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 Latest report is that Pierre Garcon turned down a five-year, $35 million deal from the Colts. So either he's looking for megabucks or wants the heck out of Dodge. Or possibly both. I don't think he'll get more than that in FA. He certainly won't get it from Cincy. So I guess he's off my list. Quote
derekshank Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 It's also been reported that Manningham is likely to land in Tampa Bay. The realistic FA options are drying up before FA has even started. Quote
HoosierCat Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 It looks like the Saints are going to have to use the franchise tag on Brees. Meaning both Colston and Nicks will escape into FA. I would have to call that an epic fail on the part of the Saints' FO. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 Nicks is still my "be all, end all" of FA, but there is no way the Bengals are the team that turn him into the highest paid OG in league history. I can always hope huh ?? Quote
cincyhokie Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 Right. There's no way the Bengals sign him. However, it adds another player the Saints have to look at signing without the tag possibly freeing up Colston or Meacham for the Bengals. That being said from the quotes I've seen from the Bengals and Lewis, there is no plan to sign a FA veteran WR. Quote

ArmyBengal Posted March 1, 2012 Report Posted March 1, 2012 Thanks Hoosier. I knew I could count on you !!! Quote
HoosierCat Posted March 1, 2012 Report Posted March 1, 2012 Back on topic, for those who want Wallace, here's good news: the Steelers will NOT franchise him. Instead they will just use the top RFA tender./>http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/03/01/steelers-wont-use-franchise-tag-on-mike-wallace/Some team(s) will jump on that. Not the Bengals of course but just getting him out of the division would be nice. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted March 1, 2012 Report Posted March 1, 2012 I saw that as well and was thinking how nice it will be to see another team give up a pick for him.I could see a team like the Pats jumping all over that one with giving up the 31st pick.Talk about value. Tom Brady would have a field day... Quote

Tom Brady would have a field day...I'm thinking 49ers with the 30th overall pick. That would make a ton of sense... although I don't know their cap situation.I'm still in favor of the Bengals going after him aggressively. Get Wallace and Michael Bush to go along with AJ Green and Gresham... and the Bengals have an elite offense in the making. Quote

OG will almost certainly be addressed in the draft with DeCastro/Glenn at #17, or else Zietler at #53. Quote
derekshank Posted March 1, 2012 Report Posted March 1, 2012 Remove DeSean Jackson from any FA wishlist. The Eagles franchised him. Quote

derekshank Posted March 4, 2012 Report Posted March 4, 2012 Pro Football Focus - Bengals 2012 Team NeedsInteresting article from Pro Football Focus on what the Bengals should do in free agency. They suggest adding Michael Bush (I've been vocal about my desire for this)... adding Geoff Swartz to play RG (I've mentioned this before, as he's a good player who is likely to be had at a bargain price)... and adding Jerricho Cotchery. I've not considered Cotchery before... but I must admit, a solid (and likely inexpensive) #2 who makes his living on having solid hands, strong work ethic, and toughness to compliment the star power AJ Green brings has a very "Bengal" feel to it. volcom69 Posted March 4, 2012 Report Posted March 4, 2012 I like that as well many people have bush going to the bengals, and I hope it happens! If that does happen they can get a flashy RB later on in the draft.I like the Cochery move and I would be ok with that.Don't know much about the guard Quote
derekshank Posted March 4, 2012 Report Posted March 4, 2012 Don't know much about the guardHere's PFF's write-up about Schwartz.5) Geoff Schwartz, Carolina PanthersAge as of 1st September, 2012: 262011 Grade: N/A (+12.3 in 2010 at guard & tackle)Key Stat: Gave up pressure once every 27.9 pass plays after moving to guard in Week 7 of 2010Behind the Numbers: After missing the entire 2011 season through injury, Schwartz may see a limited market this offseason as teams take a view of “what have you done for me lately”. However, Schwartz’s versatility and quality at a number of positions may just pique the interest of a team as one of the more valuable offensive line free agents–depending upon his rehab. Schwartz played both right tackle and right guard for the Panthers in 2010 and excelled in both spots in spite of only having just the bye week to bed in at right guard after playing the first five weeks at tackle. Linemen who can swing between positions or sides of the line are extremely valuable to teams, but too often they are a jack of all trades and master of none. In 2010, Schwartz showed the ability to play both spots to a high level. Yielding only one pressure to the Giants in his first start at tackle while putting in enough quality work at guard after the bye week to rank 15th in our guard rankings for 2010. Whether at guard, tackle, or both, Schwartz has plenty to offer any team that signs him this summer. Quote
volcom69 Posted March 4, 2012 Report Posted March 4, 2012 Sounds like a Marvin guy I could see them give him a look. That would be a good free agency! Quote
derekshank Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 With the Patriots landing Brandon Lloyd, and the 49ers signing Mario Manningham... the Bengals might be the only real suitor to poach Wallace from the Steelers.Still doubt they will do it... but at this point, it doesn't appear there would be much of a bidding war. volcom69 Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 I still can't believe they havnt looked at any WR yet. Quote
cHaD711Johnson Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 No one is going to do it. Giving up a 1st round pick and having to spend big time money is not enticing for anyone. As far as WRs it is clear that they are going to go with a younger alternative, rather it is Binns or someone acquired through the draft. I'd much rather prefer that option as opposed to the Manningham or Meacham options that were suggested. Manningham isn't any more consistent than Simpson, yet he wanted to be compensated highly. Meacham benefited from having Brees behind center and I'll be interested in seeing how he does in San Diego. Quote
derekshank Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 I still can't believe they havnt looked at any WR yet.Well, if there is one thing Mike Brown loves, it's quality WRs. In the last few years he has used two 2nd round picks, a top 5 pick... and has spent considerable resources on the likes of Coles, Bryant, and T.O. With the exception of Green... it's been mostly negative results, but I don't think Mike Brown's priorities have changed. He still loves WRs. And I know the coaching staff is talking up Armon Binns, but I'm not sure even they believe he's a quality #2 in the NFL. I'm confident that there is a plan in place for a #2 WR... but I doubt it is Binns. The fact that they aren't even sniffing FA tells they are either planning to make a move on Wallace... or else they are going to draft one as early as the 1st round. From my perspective, if they are going to draft someone in the first round - it might as well be Wallace. Quote
