volcom69 Posted March 11, 2012 Report Posted March 11, 2012 Well this makes no sense at all I just don't understand this team sometimes! Just because they went 9-7 dosnt mean they were all that great, and with a lot of holes FA could have filled a couple spots. I like building through the draft, but there way to many holes, plus they hardly ever keep there guys. Guess will see what happens but it just dosnt make sense Quote
bwillycuse Posted March 11, 2012 Report Posted March 11, 2012 And when there are no sell outs next season, minus Pittsburgh, they have no one to blame but themselves.Stop saying the fans need to start supporting the team more and how they should be ashamed. This is a f*cking joke...Yup,The ball is in your court Mikey. Show us you are in it to win it. The message will be loud and clear to fans and players. Quote
HoosierCat Posted March 11, 2012 Author Report Posted March 11, 2012 Joe Reedy is just joe smoe who makes alot of assumptions, he is actually quite Hobson-esque in his articles. No one knows whats going to happen, I wouldn't expect anything over the top but I think there wll be at least one semi-splash in free agency (Brandon Carr/ Tracey Porter-ish).Given that Reedy is basing his stuff on what Marvin is saying, I'm inclined to think he's on the right track.Brandon Carr is going to get paid top dollar. The Bengals aren't going to be active at that level. Porter I could see, He's more of a second-tier FA and both the CB FA market and the draft are corner-heavy, so beyond the top couple of guys prices should come down significantly. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted March 11, 2012 Report Posted March 11, 2012 It's just sad though. More money under the cap than ever before, nice draft picks in the first two rounds, and able to fill holes freeing up the draft for BPA. Then we are told we wouldn't be seeing much because they are worried about a contract they might have to be concerned with 3 years from now. To bad we don't have more high profile guys that don't want to play for us and we can trade for more picks... Quote
HoosierCat Posted March 11, 2012 Author Report Posted March 11, 2012 I wouldn't be half as irked by the "save for the future" strategy if I had any faith that they will actually be signing guys.I mean, looking ahead, the Bengals have a point. Within the next few years they are looking at extending:AJ GreenAndy DaltonGeno AtkinsCarlos DunlapJermaine GreshamRey Maualga (assuming he gets his head screwed on straight)And there's also Moobs, who will need a big $$$ deal to keep after this season if he continues to improve. So yeah, the future needs to be taken into account. The problem is, based on what's gone before, half or more of these guys will walk because the Bengals deem them "not worth it," i.e. not worth what they can get on the open market. And so the perpetual rebuild continues, and money that could have been used this year gets saved for a future use that never happens. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted March 11, 2012 Report Posted March 11, 2012 My point exactly Hoosier. My point exactly.Wait for the day that never comes. Quote
volcom69 Posted March 12, 2012 Report Posted March 12, 2012 Well looks like Nelson will be a free agent they couldn't reach a deal today. Guess Marvin is ready for the young guys back there. Quote
HoosierCat Posted March 14, 2012 Author Report Posted March 14, 2012 For those who were interested in LaRon Landry, the Bengals are not among his reported suitors: Jets, Iggles, Lions & Pats./>http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/03/14/laron-landry-has-four-suitors/The Jets are also said to be interested in Nelson as well as Brandon Meriweather. Quote
HoosierCat Posted March 15, 2012 Author Report Posted March 15, 2012 Aaaaand Meriweather is a Red$kin. Quote
HoosierCat Posted March 16, 2012 Author Report Posted March 16, 2012 Pre-FA reports had the Bengals interested in Ravens safety Haruki Nakamura. He signed a 3-year deal with Carolina today. Quote
HoosierCat Posted March 17, 2012 Author Report Posted March 17, 2012 It appears a bidding war is breaking out over Reggie. He has an offer from the Jets and Reedy says the Bengals are still in play. Per Reggie's agent a third team has also expressed interest./>http://www.cincyjungle.com/2012/3/17/2880776/2012-nfl-free-agency-jets-have-made-an-offer-to-reggie-nelson-nelson Quote
volcom69 Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 Yea sounds like bengals have a shot I really hope they find a way to keep him Quote
Stripes Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 Happy trails if you chase the bigger bucks, Reggie. I think you're close to terrible though. Quote
HoosierCat Posted March 18, 2012 Author Report Posted March 18, 2012 Per shefty & Reedy WE GOT HIM BACK! Quote
volcom69 Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 I'm happy about this move, I know some won't be but he was getting better and better. I think this makes zimmer happy. Good job bengals for this move! Now it's time for the d-line and another guard. Quote
bwillycuse Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 Makes me feel better. Good job Bengals. Now get Bush done on Monday. Very curious on the contract details. Mikey, re-read the rules so you dont lose this one on a technicality. Quote
Kazkal Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 Happy to have Reggie back he's not best player out there but he's serviceable and good fit for our defense,Now we need find out who our Strong Safety is next year love crock but hopefully hes not the answer. Quote
wpeldios Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 I like it, he is a good fit and I think this allows the team to build around their solid players, not worry about replacing them. Quote
volcom69 Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 I wonder if they somehow put mays in with him or go with another guy. At least Allen can now stay at corner Quote
membengal Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 I'm not unhappy, I just didn't get all the hand-wringing. Feels like some of you have built him up in your minds to be something I don't think he is. Regardless, I like having some continuity back there, so glad he is back. Still not bothered they didn't franchise him. Quote

Draft? where we have bigger holes he's not probowler by any means but atleast a solid contributor and a Zimmer guy. Quote
volcom69 Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 Well jets fans are pissed they wanted Nelson Quote

membengal Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 I said I wasn't unhappy. I just thought the incessant and over-the-top bitching over not franchise tagging a guy with massive holes in his game was weird. I hope Reggie keeps getting better. I hope he fills in some of those holes - I think he can. But the cliff-diving over "what if" we lost him was odd to me. If we lost him, we would have filled in. This wasn't exactly like possibly losing Ed Reed in his prime... Quote
ArmyBengal Posted March 19, 2012 Report Posted March 19, 2012 I've said all along the reason for tagging him wouldn't have been because he was our best player, because he wasn't.It would have simply allowed the team to keep some continuity when there was no other option out there that presented an upgrade. It also allows the team to not have to get another starter in the draft. If you were one of the ones who was comfortable with what we have on the roster starting had Nelson left, that's fine. I just disagree. This is a good move for many reasons, but agree that one of those reasons isn't because he's the best player. At the same time, I think it's silly to say he didn't perform well last season either. The cap hit is surely going to be less than the tag, so this is win win for the Bengals.GET MICHAEL BUSH !!!
