derekshank
I won't be the least bit surprised if the Bengals bring him back. He won't get offers from anyone else. He'll also probably get a 4 game suspension. But he'll be a bargain. And as much as MB likes to be a reformer... he likes talent on the cheap even more.I just hope the Bengals aren't relying on him to be the #2 anymore. I'm more or less ok with him as a #4 WR... but he can't be counted on as a starter.
ArmyBengal
Couldn't have said it better Derek. On the cheap is the only way I want to see him back on this team and not expected to be the #2.
COB
The prosecution surrendered when they saw the size of Jerome's forehead. Why get into a courtroom battle of wits with a guy who has a size XXXXL brain?

glasgowbengal
15 days in the pokey plus 3 years probation.I reckon mikey will resign him, on minimum salary, once he's out.
HoosierCat
Someone will sign him, and it could easily be Cincy. ? is, how many games does Goodell shelve him for? I think derek's 4 is a good bet.

UK Bengal
Simpson being suspended 3 games hopefully that will entice the Vikings to sign him now and we can be done with him and draft a guy that will be better than him
ArmyBengal
It's sad when you are rooting for a player to not get suspended, to entice another team to sign him.Yeah, I will be happy with him going to the Vikings.
HoosierCat
Simpson being suspended 3 games hopefully that will entice the Vikings to sign him now and we can be done with him and draft a guy that will be better than himWell, that's the thing -- is there a guy in the draft who is better than Simpson? In the cases of Blackmon and Floyd I think you can answer yes, but Blackmon will be long gone by 17 and even if Floyd is there do we want to see another first round pick used on a WR (and a No. 2 WR at that)? I don't know that Wright gives you much more and Hill seems almost a carbon copy of Rome.

ArmyBengal
I don't think most of the WR's in the top 3 rounds of the draft are going to take 3 years to get on the field the way Simpson did. Then, still manage to be so horribly inconsistent.

ArmyBengal
He's the reason whenever I look for WR's now, I see the words, "polished route runner".Simpson, while obviously athletically gifted, just wasn't a good overall WR.

Then again they have to be open to instruction.
HoosierCat
IMO we kinda reached on him.Shrug. Simpson is a perfect example of a need pick. Remember, Chad was in full-blown Ocho Bozo mode, threatening to sit out, etc. They needed some insurance in case he actually followed through on his threat, and it was a horrible year for wideouts. Thus, Jerome. In all fairness, Simpson was one of the better wide receiver selections. There were 10 WRs taken in the second round in 2008, and Jerome is one of just 5 with more than 1,000 career yards. In order of being drafted:Donnie Avery 103/1,308/9Devin Thomas 43/482/3Jordy Nelson 168/2,531/21James Hardy 10/96/2Eddie Royal 206/2,107/9Jerome Simpson 71/1,004/7DeSean Jackson 229/4,085/21Malcolm Kelly 28/365/0Limas Sweed 7/69/0Dexter Jackson 0/0/0The Bengals' real f*ckup -- and IIRC we were all screaming at the top of our lungs about it back then -- was passing on DeSean Jackson. That I put right at the feet of Sideshow Bob and his raging hardon for big, tall wide receivers. Bengals take DeSean and there's a good chance none of the Coles/Bryant/Owens crap ever happens. UK Bengal
Tbh even some of the second and 3rd round WR prospects in the draft are possibly better than Simpson. Then again we could see what we have in house already.
skyline
I get what you guys are saying, but Simpson isn't currently a bad receiver. The problem, as you rightly pointed out, is that he has a tendency to dissapear. At least his blocking improved greatly.Ideally, he would make a very solid #3 wideout or most NFL teams. The problem, as you rightly pointed out, is that he has a tendency to dissapear. This. He is not bad. He is inconsistent. And a rookie WR will likely also be inconsistent. The frustration with Simpson comes from the fact that he's been in the league for 4 years now, but doesn't appear to be improving in the way you would expect. He still plays like a rookie. Will the Bengals be able to draft an upgrade? Probably... but it won't surprise me if the upgrade is not an immediate one. It might take the better part of the season, if not more, for a rookie WR to be a notable upgrade over Simpson. For all his faults, he still posted 50 receptions for 700+ yards. Those aren't exactly routine numbers for a rookie.
