Reedy:

Dir. of Football Ops Jim Lippincott announces his retirement from the team. He is returning to Moeller though as D coordinator

I wonder who the Bengals will get now to roust players in camp at 5 a.m. to tell them they suck and are being cut?

Didn't Lippincott go straight from high school football to an NFL team, now straight back to high school football? He might be the only person to ever do that.

At least since the 1940's, I'm certain.

Addition by subtraction. He was basically the #2 to Brown when it came to operations, scouting/drafting and personnel issues, among other things.

It's curious that his retirement came at a time when ticket sales are so abysmal, and that they'd make such an "announcement" about it this early, when they are desperately trying to sell-out a final game. They had to know he was

retiring, why announce it today? No replacement lined-up at all? Makes you wonder what's going on, or if something like Marvin is sick of coaching and wants to take over that position, and Zimmer becoming HC next year etc...,

I wonder if they'll actually add someone from outside the family/org. Only Marvin would seem qualified at this point.

They probably announced it now due to Moeller hiring him now. Good luck, Lippy. Never a fan and now he goes to a GCL rival. An an X grad, I hope his defenses for the Crusaders blow goats.

An an X grad,

You too? :sure:

I hope his defenses for the Crusaders blow goats.

Me too. :sure:

I am a Bomber. Class of 89. Also a Bobcat (though you knew that).

We have a lot in common, Dave.

You were coming, I was going: class of '84.

So we can blame the Jesuits for both of you guys? Figures.

Yeah, I went in a good little Roman Catholic and came out an atheist. Mission accomplished! (insert :pope: smiley here)

According to Lapham, Lippy has been replaced.

Jim Lippincott has been replaced by a young man from William & Mary with no significant NFL experience who they feel they can groom. They are the youngest team in the AFC. The start of a solid foundation has been laid, but there are MILES to go before they rest. Even though Mike doesn't have to spend to the floor of the cap until 2013.....fans hope he attacks free agency with vigor in 2012. Thy have a number of high choices to fill holes not addressed in free agency. They are in position to take a big step in the next few months. Let's see how it unfolds.

It would have been nice of Dave to provide, y'know, a name. I took a look at the W&M website and this guy seems to fit the description...no idea if he's it, tho.

That aside, sounds like the standard "flunky" hiring to me.

Exactly.... Flunky, as in:

<quiet, polite knock on a door>

SoP - (opens door and enters small, poorly lit closet-like room where he finds the newest Bengals employee, "Turk jr.", focusing on reading Bengals Gameday programs from the 1997 season): offering a weak smile : "Uh, hello Charles. Thought I'd drop by to see how you are settling in..."

Charles "Turk jr." Stifler - (sitting on an overturned 5 gallon bucket, startled) : squinting and surprised : "Oh, hello Mr. Brown. Sure, I'm settling in very well. Just immersing myself in classic Bengals history with these Gameday programs."

SoP - (looking at the ceiling for the hanging light cord, finds it and pulls it, turning on an overhead incandescent bulb) : clearly pleased with the burst of light : "There we go, that's better. <pausing> I was told you are a bit of a "car guy", is that true?

Charles - (now standing, which makes it awkward as the room is no larger than a walk-in pantry) "Sure, I've always liked cars, ever since I was little. More of a sports car nut, Ferrari's, Maserati's, Lambroghini's...Mostly Italian classics. Are you interested in fast cars, too?"

SoP - (tugs his belt and hitches his shoulder) : "I suppose those cars keen, though maybe a bit impractical for a town like Cincinnati, even when the town was bustling and the City would patch potholes. No, can't say I find them very interesting. I ask because I am having a bit of a "pull" to the right in my Sienna. Not sure if an axle is bent or if it's just the shiffer-flange needs a turn. Anyways, I thought you might want to have a look, seeing as you are a car connoisseur. <reaching out, holding a worn plastic key fob with the words "Delhi Par 3" imprinted on it> Here are the keys, have a look..."

Charles - (puzzled but eager to please) : "Uh, ok, I'd be glad to have a look. Pulling to the right? I see. I will take a look today and let you know. Thanks."

SoP - (taking a quick, final survey of the very small room) : "Well then, that will be fine. If you run out of Gameday's, I'll have Katie bring in her old Annual's. Plenty of good information found in those. <reaches out to pull the light cord/turns off light> Good day, Charles." <turns and steps out of the small room, and gently shuts the door>

Charles - (slowly sits back down on the 5 gallon bucket, examines the keys noting the plastic color coding rings on the 10 or so keys. He places the keys on the banker box next to him that contains Gameday's from years 1992-1997 and exhales slowly) : He thinks to himself "Day 3, it will get better, this is the NFL."

That's probably on the money, Willie. I assume when Mike hired Lippincott he basically hired his son's high school football coach.

I'll be looking forward to discovering how their new hire is connected to the Brown family.

And how his wrenching skills measure up when applied to an '82 Lumina.

(Oh, it appears Herron was his call, so I'll change my mind and agree with derek, horrible pick, F-)

Good God of course Lippincott recommended Herron, thank God he's finally gone. At least the replacement didn't come right out of high school, but it's funny they want someone they can "groom" <wink, wink>.

Same old Bengals' front office crap.
