Week 3 Home Opener Already Blacked Out

Is this true? Even if you have DirecTv's Sunday Ticket, you still don't get to see the game? That is completely ridiculous. You are paying what, three hundred bucks or something to get all the NFL games and you still don't get the one you really want?

Check this out.

Because a local area network was showing the Raider-Bills game it couldn't be shown on Sunday Ticket in the Los Angeles area. But because Los Angeles has also been declared a secondary market for the San Diego Chargers the NFL claims it is contractually obligated to switch from live coverage of the Raider/Bills game to the start of the Chargers game against New England.

And that's exactly what they did.

In fact, they switched coverage to another game on third down and goal to go with less than 20 seconds remaining in a game the Raiders led by less than a TD. And just to complete the picture, the Bills had the ball. They scored of course.

Crazier still, immediately after leaving the Raider-Bills game Los Angeles viewers were treated to six commercials and two local station promos before joining the Charger game, which hadn't even started yet.

Sounds like all the right people got paid. The viewers/fans? Who really cares. Signed - Roger Goodell and 32 crusty old white guys.

Once again proving the old adage that even a blind squirrel occasionally finds an acorn, the NFL has told the station involved that it can stay with the first game until the end in the future.

I don't know about that, when I view Arthur Blank I see kind of a Mocha version of Mr. Tweed from Family Guy. (Of coarse all real Family Guy fans know he is now dead.)

He's always reminded me of this guy. He was the department store manager in an old Bugs Bunny cartoon.

Kaepernick getting extra snaps...nice words for Dalton

– Rookie quarterback Colin Kaepernick received extra snaps during practice this week in case he is needed to take over for Alex Smith, who is fresh from a concussion he received against the Cowboys five days ago.

Kaepernick said the added reps amounted to a handful of extra plays per practice with the first-team offense. He has yet to take a snap in a regular-season game.

For those who doubt whether Kaepernick could succeed on short notice, take a peek at the performance of Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton.

Dalton was selected one pick ahead of Kaepernick in this year’s NFL draft, and he is off to a blazing start.

OK, so maybe it’s not as impressive as Panthers rookie Cam Newton, but Dalton can make a play for being the most impressive rookie quarterback to date.

Dalton has completed 66.1 percent of his 56 passes, with three touchdowns, no interceptions, and a 105.7 passer rating.

His passer rating has surpassed 100.0 in each of Cincinnati’s two games. His overall rating is better than the likes of Mike Vick, Matt Schaub, Jay Cutler, Smith (95.2), Philip Rivers and Matt Ryan.

“I don’t think the aura of playing in the NFL has affected him like it kind of affects some rookies at times,” 49ers defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said. “So, it’s just because of him. He’s capable, he’s ready and he’s a good quarterback. They’ve made a good pick there, and he’ll be a good quarterback for them for a long time.”

This no sellout/blackout policy doesn't work. Not enough interest in your product? Take it off TV! Makes no sense.

I live in Columbus, so that game wasn't blacked out for me... and watching it genuinely made me less interested in the Bengals' product. So this whole blackout thing might actually work.

It was just announced that the Bills game has been blacked out too. Sadly, I bought tickets to that game weeks ago... so I'll be able to become less interested in the Bengals live and in person.

I'll see you there. I'll be the guy in the jersey.

Over/Under on the attendance from last weeks game at 43,000?

I'm going under. Though the Bills are undefeated I don't see them drawing in a crowd.

Will it get to under 20,000 when it's snowing and if the Bengals are rocking a one or two win record late in the season?
