Spor_tees Posted August 29, 2011 Report Posted August 29, 2011 This move would make perfect sense for the Bengals. Vernon Gholston is an ex-buckeye, and everyone knows about Mikey's love for ex-buckeyes. Secondly he has the physical tools but he needs some teaching up to his talent. He's an ex-first round pick who has one foot out the door of the NFL and the other on a banana peel. The Bengals could get him dirt cheap and use him as that nickel down interior rush guy that they are trying to turn Dunlap into. I'd rather fatten up a Gholston who hasn't shown much as of yet in his shape, than to screw up a Dunlap that has already shown production. Quote
membengal Posted August 29, 2011 Report Posted August 29, 2011 I guess my issue would be, Spor...that Gholston sucks taint. He's just awful, no? I mean, if even Rex Ryan couldn't find value in him, he must be just dog s**t. Quote

I mean, if even Rex Ryan couldn't find value in him, he must be just dog s**t.Honestly I am guessing a part of his problem is his intelligence. He can't really seem to grasp all the complexities of Rex Ryan's defense. Now if you make him into a situational pass rusher, where you take the thinking out of play, you just might have something. You also have to take into account that Gholsten was still playing under his big rookie contract under Ryan in NY which might have been part of his getting the pink slip. I just can't see what it would hurt to give the guy a look and let him be tutored under Zimmer. Quote
membengal Posted August 29, 2011 Report Posted August 29, 2011 Who does he replace on our roster? Everyone is down on geathers, but i sure as s**t dont want gholston over him. Quote
COB Posted August 29, 2011 Report Posted August 29, 2011 Pass. We've already got the bust/project for this year in Mays. Gholston had plenty of opportunity with the Jets and recorded exactly zero sacks. Zero. Quote

I mean he plays defense so he can't give up a sack and go into the negative. Look at all the potential! Quote
redsbengalsbucks Posted August 29, 2011 Report Posted August 29, 2011 Gholston has been a big nothing in the NFL, surprising the way he played at OSU. I dont think he is worth the risk. Quote
volcom69 Posted August 29, 2011 Report Posted August 29, 2011 I would like them to look at Javon Haye DT from the titans who just got relesed. He would be really good in the DT rotation, if they dont think Shirley is going to make it. Quote

He would be really good in the DT rotation, if they dont think Shirley is going to make it.I think they got too enamored by what Shirley could be, and quit looking at him for what he is. This year the coaches finally opened their eyes and saw that he is nothing more than unmotivated waste of talent. He was immature at Fresno St. and hasn't changed since coming to the NFL. Potential might get you in the door, but the door to the NFL can shut in a players face just as fast. He also hasn't been able to stay on the practice field very much because of injuries. Those injuries probably could have been avoided if he would have been responsible enough to take care of his body like he should. Quote
princeton Posted August 29, 2011 Report Posted August 29, 2011 I'm happy to take a chance on a previously underachieving guy that plays a need position, like Mays so unless Gholston wants to switch to offensive guard or nickelback or third string QB... Quote

Now's not the time to let him go Quote
