walzav29
I know Peter King is not a Bengal fan. After Palmer went 25-36 371 2 TD's he said this"5. I think this thought occurred to me while watching Carson Palmer struggle in the first quarter of the season: He's owed $53 million over the next four years, but whether there's a salary cap next year or not, the Bengals could cut him and not have a dime count against a cap."I think this is an insane thought. Do you know how hard it is to get a good quarterback in the NFL? Us Bengal fans have been here before. Remember when Boomer had a bad year? 1991/>http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/cin/1991.htmThe Bengals ended up getting rid of Boomer to make room for the David Klingler era. Brilliant. Then when Boomer came back to Cincy in 1997 we wished he would have stayed. Also in 92 the Broncos drafted Tommy Maddox to replace Elway. He sucked like Klingler. This happend when Boomer and Elway were 30. Elway won 2 Super Bowls when they got him a RB. The point is that Palmer is very good, and has shown he can be a top 10 quarterback (I feel he can be top 5). The rest of the team has to do their job as well. If they cut him, who would be the QB? It took 13 years to replace Boomer. It is ridiculous to assume you can just cut Palmer and get a QB to jump right in and do well. Remember. Ken Anderson had to fight off Turk Schonert in 81. Good thing they stuck with Kenny (Sorry Turk). The Carson bashing is stupid.
jjakq27
Unless Dan LeFevour is the next (fill in the blank) I don't see that happening. What King is saying is true but I doubt very much that they are in a position to do that.
Trevor
He had a good game but these fumbles are getting rediculous!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wraith
Look I have said it before and I'll say it again. He is not Peyton Manning, Drew Brees or Tom Brady, expecting him to be that is asking for failure. He is better than almost everyone else in the NFL let's see how this year plays out, I am betting he has a big game next week.
walzav29
Who get's rid a of a good QB? I guess the Eagles, but he is plenty good enough to win a Super Bowl. He's just as good as Ben Rothlisberger, Eli Manning, or Trent Dilfer.
Trevor
A good oline is key, you have a good oline and you can succeed. Peyton/Brady/Brees all have excelllent olines. Our oline goes Good-Terrible-Mediocre-Good-Terrible Whit-Livings- Cook- Bobby-RolandCarson cant do ish if he has no time
DC_Bengals_Fan
Peter King is a professional sh*t-stirrer. This is his job. Pay the clown no mind.Though this is certainly a bit much even for him - sounds like something that's more worthy of Florio.
kingwilly
Look I have said it before and I'll say it again. He is not Peyton Manning, Drew Brees or Tom Brady, expecting him to be that is asking for failure. He is better than almost everyone else in the NFL let's see how this year plays out, I am betting he has a big game next week.Is he? Really? Is he better than Matt Ryan, Aaron Rogers or Philip Rivers? Is he better than Matt Schaub? Is he even better than Kyle Orton at this point? or Sam Bradford? Look, I think Carson showed yesterday he can pass in this league. He is at the level of many of the guys I mentioned but he simply cannot carry this team and "will" the team to win. I am not sure if it is in him to take charge and seize a game the way Brady or Manning or Brees can.Since he can't do it, they can't ask him to do it. They need to run the ball. They need to do things in a way that is unpredictable, and catches teams WAY off guard. Adjustments at the half, innovative line formations, innovative use of players (and I do not mean trotting in Leonard for the chip block/release/quick catch play that can be seen from space). It just does not exist. Brat cannot do it. To me, this is not about Carson, it is about Brat and Marvin. Marvin has not shown an ability to assert himself when the offense stutters. If so, why do the pre-snap penalties persist? If so, how do they abandon a run game from a year ago, to placate Chad and TO? Forsaking the formula for winning the AFC North, to puff up Carson's ego, or bloat worthless stats of Chad and TO means this team will MAYBE be .500 this year.Since Marvin is in the hot seat, how can a team produce such a poor pass rush? Wallace is a mobile QB, so yesterday was more of a challenge, but when you give a guy 4, 5, 6, seconds to throw the ball, any NFL QB will make a play. I hold Marvin accountable. He has to assert himself to Brat, to Zimmer, to the players... When you play Fat Andre when he is not ready, and everyone knows it, you diminish the authority you have for every other decision that needs to be made. When your team STILL commits 8 penalties, two of which ruined your chance of winning, you have problems.I realize factors outside the team and opponent influence the situation dramatically but it is on Marvin to overcome them, and he is not getting it done. walzav29
Yes he is better. I am starting to blame Marvin now. I have to say though, that I think Brat is horrible. Who's fault is it that he's still there? I would bet Mike Brown.
James_Brooks21
Who get's rid a of a good QB? I guess the Eagles, but he is plenty good enough to win a Super Bowl. He's just as good as Ben Rothlisberger, Eli Manning, or Trent Dilfer.I will give you Trent Dilfer, Eli I'm thinking equal, but Big Ben you are smoking some good stuff. Big Ben and Palmer are on par with arm comparison but when it comes to the factor ofmaking a play out of nothing or continuing a play becaue of great feet they are not in the same ball park. Palmer will get tapped and will lay down, and I'm talking about preinjury too when have you ever seen Palmer break out of a tackle or a sure sack. I don't think we can make it to the promise land with him as our quarterback, yes he looks good against Cleveland that's a plus but he also has to have good games against some of these playoff caliber teams too. I don't expect every game to be good against these teams but give me a few good games against the likes of New England, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Indy, Jets, Atlanta, New Orleans, San Diego. Beating the likes of Tampa and Cleveland are neccesary to get to the playoffs but being able to have good games against the teams I named will get you in the Superbowl. Batch looked just as good as Palmer did against Baltimore yesterday and he's the fourth string quarterback, yes he threw an interception but that was in crisis time. I'm with Peter King evaluate him for the rest of the season against playoff caliber teams and if his performance is not up to par cut the fat. I'm tired of just settling, we need to set our standards higher in Cincinnati with just being happy with an average at best quarterback. And no he's not the reason we are losing these games, those five guys in front of him and those safeties are key factors too.
Scottishbengal
Didn't Mike Brown pay up to Jon Kitna when he nearly made a certain % number of snaps? That being the case I can't see Palmer being ditched to save $$$. You would need a decent replacement to step into the breech and/or replace through the draft. A season or so of learning the playbook etc whilst the team drops in the rankings - can't see that being worthwhile for any businessman let alone MB.If Carson was given time/protection by the O line then this wouldn't even be a topic of conversation. To be honest, I'm more worried about the WR situation going into next season. ct_bengal
i agree carson is overpaid, but your bonkers if u want him cut. he could easily plug in to a team with a good o-line and produce, just like kyle orton and mark sanchez. if palmer was on the jets forget about it. TJJackson
I agree that we'd be fine if we had a average or better offensive lineThey're going to need to chip with the tight ends and backs more, especially on the Flesh Zeppelin's side, til we get better - which may not be til next yearKooistra is available :-)

BengalPimp
He had a good game but these fumbles are getting rediculous!!!!!!!!!!!!Not his fault. One was on Benson looking ahead at a defender coming right at him and not the ball. Another was when he was hit as he was getting ready to throw...again because defenders were all over him...That's the O-Line right there.....It's not like Kitna who used to fumble for no reason (other than because he had small hands)....Carson's are a direct result of the O-Line's inability to block anyone.
