As expected the Bengals attempted to ease Smith into the action as the extra blocker in heavy packages. Nothing I watched stood out, good or bad, and game circumstances dictated he get very few snaps in the 2nd half.

I believe his stomach stood out very well.

yes him and bobby have huge guts

Whe should cut ties with him after this season and look for his replacement in the draft

Correction, you must have gotten run over by the short bus on the way to GM school.

Well, he's right about one thing. One of the things the Bengals fought for during the holdout was an out clause after 2 years. Pretty sure there's a large roster bonus to factor in as well.

Reedy says Smith played 10 snaps total.

9/15/10: Playing time — Patriots game

Posted by jreedy September 15th, 2010, 6:27 am

We're going to try something new this year and provide snap count totals and other stats from games this year. On most weeks, we hope to have it up on Tuesday, but due to travel delays on Monday I wasn't able to go through the tape of Sunday's game until yesterday. Snap totals are unofficial since it was taken off the TV broadcast.

Offense (76 snaps)

QB: Carson Palmer 76

RB: Cedric Benson 41, Bernard Scott 35

FB: Domata Peko 2, Dan Skuta 1

TE: Reggie Kelly 18, Jermaine Gresham 66, Dan Coats 8

WR: Chad Ochocinco 72, Terrell Owens 73, Jordan Shipley 58, Quan Cosby 2, Jerome Simpson 1.

OL: Andrew Whitworth 76, Nate Livings 76, Kyle Cook 76, Bobbie Williams 76, Dennis Roland 72, Andre Smith 10

Unofficially I have them in two tight-end sets on 13 plays.

Cedric Benson's greatest running lanes were behind left tackle, where he had 6 carries for 35 yards. Everywhere else had a combined 9 carries for 8 yards.

Only one infraction on the penalty report — Dennis Roland for a false start in the third quarter. Hence officially no drives stalled due to penalties.

Red zone: Bengals were 2 of 2 and also 2 of 2 in goal-to-go efficiency.

For the record, I've never said the "play" of either Mathis or Livings was bad.

I simply said, THEY were bad.

That is part of the roster that needs upgraded badly...

Maybe thats so, but last year when Mathis was in there he played much better then Livings. How could you tell anything the Bengals were playing musical o-linemen, so how could either one of them get into a rythem. To me Mathis is the better choice and Marvin is stupid not to see that. Then again i guess im not the coach, just a fan who wants to see the best set of linemen in the game.

:P you said something about not noticing him doesn't mean it was a good thing even though he never was put in the game...I wanna see better play out position too but I'd like to see Mathis get a Fair shot because IMO He was a good player for us last year...there could be a legit reason why he's not playing but I just don't trust Paul Alexander and would like to see it for my own eyes "shrug"

I suppose, I just want to see the best set of linemen we have in the game as well.

I'm also of the mindset that when the season is over, there are better to be found.

Mathis Was rated 6th best Guard in football last year ,There was a few articles about him being underrated...I'm all for upgrading our Oline I just can't understand paul alexander's mindset sometimes "Cough Stacey Andrews being the best tackle in football"...It looks like alexander won't even consider Mathis Starting now because he's seen as the ultimate backup one guy who can backup 4-5 positions ><

Oh i agree im sure there are much better, but this what we have here, and i wanna see Mathis get a shot. I didnt like Livings last year, and i dont like him now. He makes way to many penalties, and gets beat so bad. Now if Livings improves then awsome, but i think the better Guard on the team is sitting on the bench. I am however happy that they stopped thats stupid musical o-linemen.

True that,The guy is suppossed be the mauler but doesn't look he has any strength at all...Atleast Mathis is Athletic enough to make plays to spring benson by far our best pulling linemen.

Again, I'm all about getting the best guy in there and if that guy is Mathis right now, then get his ass in there.

All I'm saying is, don't say the guy is something he obviously isn't.

I'm not trying to be funny here, but what is the reason, the better guy isn't playing ??

I am by far not a football genius, or by far an offensive line coach. Im just going by what i saw last year, when Mathis was in there he was much better at pass blocking, and much faster and could be a nice pulling Guard when need be. This year they were making Mathis play all the postions in the preseason, which i thought was good for him. He has more experience, he was very good when he played in Carolina, but he got hurt, and well thats how he ended up here. Im just going by what i saw, so i guess Marvin and Paul see it different, and thats why there the coach and im just a fan. Just my thought on him.

I think he'd be a great guard, superior,.. Like, all pro, but he's staying at RT,..

His biggest problem appears to be that he doesn't have the type of drive necessary to be superior at anything. If he had that, he'd be a superior all-pro RT too. I mean, he's got the physical tools. That's why he was drafted at #6 overall.

If he turns out to be a bust, perhaps they could protect him from speed rushers by bumping him inside... but at the price he's getting paid, I'd bet he just gets cut outright if he doesn't get his act together.

Unfortunately I can only think of the Hard Knocks segments about him, especially the talent show skit.

I hope he pans out but I really think they missed badly on him. Not sure how that was possible considering all of the negative pub he received prior to the draft. Much of it appears to be well founded.

I'm tired of drafting guys with upside. Should have taken Michael Oher. He may not be the run blocker that Smith is but he was a pro-ready player from day one.
