MARVIN=W'S
Found this while reading John Thornton's blog...."How you can go into the season with these kickers, I dont know. But I can see a scenario where Shayne Graham gets cut from the Ravens and end up back here at the veterans minimum." --John ThorntonWow, I can't imagine this happening. But I sure don't feel good about the 2 two guys we have competing for the job right now either.Thoughts?

I'd rather take my chances with what we've got or wait to see the other kickers that will be released after cutdowns are made.Good luck to Shayne, but bring him back ?? Sounds like a bad idea to me...
ArmyBengal
Hell, I just saw where Hauschka from the Falcons was released. I'd rather take a shot with him then bring back Shayne.I just think from a mental standpoint, Shayne wouldn't even consider coming back and I would be good with that. DC_Bengals_Fan
Here's the thing - if there's a playoff game on the line and a last-second kick for Opie, I'll assume we've basically lost the game. But at least he's money in the regular season. Is it any better to have a kicker who sucks in the regular season, and just doesn't suck any more in the playoffs? With these clowns, you might not even *get* to the playoffs. And weren't these guys supposed to be able to boom some kickoffs? From the limited amount I paid attention, it looked like they had no more distance or hang time than Opie, who gets murdered for his. Apologies if I missed a good one.Believe me, I'm not a Shayne Graham fan, nor is this a shill account controlled by BengalSis. But I was very unimpressed by both of them - even extra points were a little sketchy.I'm afraid that getting rid of Shayne may end up in the "be careful what you wish for" department. ArmyBengal
Maybe, but once again, after Marvin said what he said about Graham, I would find it hard to see him wanting to come back. His confidence would have had to have taken a hit... I'd like to think there's another kicker option of "not crappy". To me, you can't build such a loaded team and then skimp on the position that is probably the biggest bang/buck in terms of importance per salary. membengal
DC...I am not necessarily enamored with Rayner, but he has put the kicks three to five yards deep in the end zone on several occasions.
derekshank
There will be other options if the Bengals don't like Nugent or Rayner.Houston has Rackers and Kris Brown battling for a spot. St. Louis has Suisham and Josh Brown battling for a spot.Matt Stover isn't on a team. (Did he retire?)Personally, I'll be happy with either Nugent or Rayner. If Nugent gets healthy, he's a very good kicker. Health does appear to be an issue with him though. Rayner hit 4 of 5 the other night... and the one he missed wasn't a good hold (you could see Huber and Rayner talking about it after the kick). HairOnFire
Personally, I'll be happy with either Nugent or Rayner. I'm fine with Rayner...although he does look like one of those guys who uses the entire space between the goal posts on good kicks rather than routinely splitting things down the middle. But what the heck, use it all. If Nugent gets healthy, he's a very good kicker. Health does appear to be an issue with him though. I admit Rayner isn't as consistent as Shayne-O-Matic. Rayner's technique varies from kick to kick so there's nothing robotic about him. And a robotic kicker is a good thing, right? But Nugent simply isn't a serious factor, at least in my mind, due to his uncertain health. because even if he was outperforming Rayner, which he isn't, how could you give him the job when his ability to kick comes and goes?Rayner hit 4 of 5 the other night... and the one he missed wasn't a good hold (you could see Huber and Rayner talking about it after the kick). Yup. The snap looked low and outside but Huber handled it well enough. However, it looked like he placed it short, forcing Rayner to "reach" for the ball. The kick never had a chance and I'm guessing the results would have been the same regardless of who was kicking.

jjakq27
I gotta admit it is refreshing to see a guy put the kickoffs inside the five on a consistent basis.
kingwilly
I watched the first kick again last night and it was a minor flub. If the hold is there, it is not a miss.I am very impressed with Rayner's ability to KO. Burying an offense another 5-10 yards, with this defense, will reap many rewards in the regular season.Nugent is there to push Rayner to work hard, IMHO. I doubt he has a real shot.Regarding Shayne, seriously? no.

(It barely makes sense as it is). As the much-discussed Reggie Myles avatar proves....avatars rarely make sense. In fact, let's recap my own graphic Bengalzone history. Start with the Heatmeiser, a cartoon character I've never actually seen. Then, a picture of a guy who most definately wasn't me wearing a Heatmeieser wig. Next, a very naked chick wrapped in the American flag. Finally, my current choice...a pipe smoking skull with a very unspecific warning attached. Obviously, making no sense whatsoever is something many of us deliberately choose.....from time to time.

But that only strengthens my point about avatars frequently making no sense whatsoever on purpose. As for my beloved Church of the SubGenius, I think we should all take a moment out of each day to pray for slack.

ArmyBengal
I don't really care what a former player has to say. Most of the former players have good things to say about the Brown family, much to my surprise. Was Shayne's comments a shot at Mikey ?? Don't know, don't care. If they were, it's a pretty standard response:F*CK YOU SHAYNE !!!
COB
Shayne's next take on his working conditions, probably uttered sometime in mid-October: "The Tusker organization has treated me great. These are first class people. Pardon me, the band needs to practice in a couple minutes, so we're just going to help put away the pole vault mats."
