DC_Bengals_Fan Posted August 4, 2010 Report Posted August 4, 2010 Only if Matt comes with him. I love me some Schobel. Quote
Wraith Posted August 4, 2010 Report Posted August 4, 2010 I think this team is chock a block full of DEs. Rucker, Odom, Fanene, Dunlap, Geathers, Michael Johnson, with Atkins, Tank Johnson, McDonald all able to play DE in a 3-4, how DEs do we need? Besides the push is to get younger not older. Pass. TJJackson Posted August 4, 2010 Report Posted August 4, 2010 Absolutely/>http://www.nfl.com/players/aaronschobel/profile?id=SCH422487He was a 10 sack guy last year with 54 overall tackles and 4 passes defensed in 16 games 2009 - he played all 16 gameslets see - durable pass rusher who also plays the runhmmm..........OH HELL YESWENEEDPASSRUSHERSWord is that he was planning on retiring, but then changed his mid, so if he is healthy and if he really and truly does want to play football, BRING HIM IN NOW Quote
kingwilly Posted August 4, 2010 Report Posted August 4, 2010 Would be an upgrade over Rucker and McDonald. Why was he released? Quote
Wraith Posted August 4, 2010 Report Posted August 4, 2010 Thing is neither Rucker or McDonald are going to make this team. Fanene is more durable and more flexible (with him player DT on passing downs), Dunlap is making this team, Odom duh, Geathers (they aren't going to cut Geather to make room for Rucker at least), Michael Johnson is of course making this team as well. The question is would you rather have a 33 year old Aaron Schobel or a 26 year old Robert Geathers. I would take Geathers personally. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted August 4, 2010 Report Posted August 4, 2010 I think we are set without making the defense older at that position. That being said, if the coaches were to feel he would make our roster better, than I would support it.How old is he ?? For some reason I was thinking he was older... Quote

That being said, if the coaches were to feel he would make our roster better, than I would support it.How old is he ?? For some reason I was thinking he was older...I'm looking at our Super Bowl shot that is happening right now. MJ is moving to LB, and Odom had 8 sacks before he got hurt but Rucker, Geathers, and Fanene aren't a Schoebel. He would help our Super Bowl run for 2010. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted August 4, 2010 Report Posted August 4, 2010 And once again, if the Bengals coaches think he will help, then I'm all for it...Aaron Schobel will be getting his wayWell, the Bills have blinked. With defensive end Aaron Schobel contemplating retirement throughout the offseason and then deciding he would be willing to play in a city other than Buffalo, the Bills had three options. They could trade him, they could tell him, "Play for us or play for no one," or they could release him. After insisting that Schobel would not be released, the Bills now reportedly plan to simply set him free. (For those of you who wonder why the team has been so mediocre-to-bad lately, we hope you're paying attention right now.)Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Schobel will be released later today, and that Schobel plans to sign with a new team.Under contract through 2012, Schobel was due to earn a base salary of $6.025 million this year. The 15th pick in the second round of the 2001 draft, Schobel has spent nine seasons with the Bills. He started every game from 2002 through 2007 and in 2009. (Injury limited him to five games in 2008.) He also appeared in every game and started 11 as a rookie. The 32-year-old has 78 career sacks, and he cracked double digits for the fourth time in his career last season. But here's perhaps the most important stat, from Schobel's perspective. Through nine NFL seasons, the total number of postseason games he has seen without a TV or a ticket is . . . zero. The Texas native could be eyeballing the Houston Texans, whom many expect to get to the postseason for the first time in team history. Bill Kollar, who was Schobel's position coach for three years in Buffalo, is the assistant head coach/defensive line coach in Houston./>http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/08/04/aaron-schobel-will-be-getting-his-way/ Quote
derekshank Posted August 4, 2010 Report Posted August 4, 2010 I'd be really surprised if the Bengals show any interest. Zimmer has stated on several occasions that he's happy with the production from the DEs, but wants better interior pressure.Yes, Schobel is a more proven pass rushing DE than what the Bengals have, but I take Zimmer at his word. Quote
Kazkal Posted August 4, 2010 Report Posted August 4, 2010 We could use a DE.we could? I'm quite happy with what we have at DE more so since MJ will still be putting his hand down on 3rd downs...I'd love to have a non Elephant End on the team but I don't see us adding anyone until next years draft. Stripes Posted August 4, 2010 Report Posted August 4, 2010 No thanks. I want the young defenders like Michael Johnson and Frostee Rucker to see the field as often as possible. Quote

TJJackson Posted August 4, 2010 Report Posted August 4, 2010 I understand that he is an older guy, but the weakest part of our defens elast year was passs rsh,m and just think of how much better our pass coverage will be if we actually generated a consistent pass rushGeathers has not been productive since he got his money following his one good yearFrostee has not been healthy for a 16 game season, and never anywhere near 10 sacks.Give me the durable 10 sack 54 tackle guy, at least for this year when we seem to be operating 'all in'My only question is his resolve. since he has been undecided more or less all offseason if he wants to retire or not. Suggests lack of desire. If he doesnt have it anymore - pass. If he does desire to play, but it's just about playing for a winner for a change (no postseason for his entire career in Buffalo) - BRING HIM IN Quote

If he does desire to play, but it's just about playing for a winner for a change (no postseason for his entire career in Buffalo) - BRING HIM INYeah, anytime you have a player who is contemplating retirement you have to question his desire. Schoebel was a Solid DE no doubt. Problem is, we would be losing a good young DE if we signed him. As it stands, there may not be a spot for Rucker with our current roster (which is a shame because when he is on the field, he plays well). They will only keep 4 DE's so (not including MJ) you've already got Odom, Geathers, Dunlap, Fanene, Rucker. If they sign Schoebel they have to cut 2 DE's from that group, and i don't want to lose a young guy like Fanene for a Vet who will only play 1 season. They won't keep 5 DE's because that would really be 6 DE's including MJ. That would also mean they would have to go with only 3 DT's which wont happen.Unfortunately no room for Schoebel. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted August 4, 2010 Report Posted August 4, 2010 From what i've seen to this point, there are about 5 teams that are listed as being interested and Schoebel would play for.The Bengals weren't one of them... Quote
volcom69 Posted August 5, 2010 Report Posted August 5, 2010 MJ i think will be playing DE on 3rd down, and playing some LB. I like Schoebel and this team needs a better consistant pass rush, not saying they wont have it this year, but remember Odom is coming off injury, and Geathers just has not had it the last couple of years. Whatever the team would decide would be fine with me. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted August 5, 2010 Report Posted August 5, 2010 That is something I've really become accustomed to as a fan. I have no idea what the coaches see day in and day out, so regardless of what I think may or may not help this team, if they say "we are good" I'm inclined to worry to much aboaut not getting someone I think would be a great help. ArmyBengal Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 Sounds like they will be able to shift between the 4-3 and 3-4 looks easier as well.I'M NOT SAYING THEY ARE CHANGING.Simply put, they have more flexibility when wanting to throw different looks at opposing offenses. For that, I am more than ok with. He just happens to be playing the "joker" role in Zim's D. Quote
