Gresham Talks Finally Getting Somewhere?

If Gresham wasn't listed as the #1, I actually would have been surprised. Kelly coming back from injury, Coffman coming back from injury and unproven, Coats, er, well, he f*ckin' sucks.

Tread lightly. It isn't out of the realm of possibility Daniel Coats! wins the starting FB role.

Bite your tongue!

There you went and did it.

That thought was buried deep in the back of my mind, but I refused to speak of it for not wanting to bring such an event to pass.

F*CK !!!

seems like quite the deal. League source on Gresham's deal -- $15.8 million/$9.6 million guaranteed/$18.5 million max.

So they paid more then their slot? surprising :o! Starting to wonder if Mr Brown is still alive.

On what planet does Mike Brown pay over slot on a guy who was out injured the entire previous year???

I must be on some good drugs right now...

Still alive and still throwing around incentives like so much candy.

The guaranteed money fits the slotting perfectly. Total contract size, if accurate, seems very generous.

ya 20# had total 13million where Gresham was given 15Million and up to 18 in incentives...Makes me wonder what the hold up was if gresham's camp wanted more since they knew he's pretty much starter this year or if it was just the language of the contract.

It's actually slotted right about where it should be.

I think CincyJungle got the total and the max screwed up.

This is what I've seen:

UPDATE: Kareem Jackson signed a 5 year deal for $13.1 million with $10.35 million guaranteed. The deal is worth up to $16.3 million. It also includes an option. Jackson has been signed and will be with the team starting with the afternoon practice.

Reedy said it was a 10% increase from last years 21st....

Gresham agrees to terms

Posted by jreedy August 2nd, 2010, 5:57 pm

The Bengals will welcome another new offensive weapon to training camp on Tuesday – Jermaine Gresham. Chad Ochocinco was the first to announce the signing on his Twitter account.

The team has agreed to terms with their first-round pick, agreeing on a five-year contract with the tight end worth $15.85 million ($18.5 million max) with $9.6 million guaranteed.

The deal is a 10.25 percent increase in guaranteed and around nine percent on base money, which is around where first-round picks have received. The base increase is also higher than what last year’s 21st pick, Peria Jerry, received with Atlanta.

So this is how it fell:

#20 got a 5 year deal worth 13.10 million and 10.35 million guaranteed

Gresham at #21 got a 5 year deal worth 15.85 million and 9.6 million guaranteed

#22 got a 5 year deal worth 12.15 million and 9.35 million guaranteed

His deal is worth better than 2 million more than the pick ahead of him while receiving only 700,000 less in guaranteed money.

What exactly was the hold up with this contract ??

I guess in the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter much as long as he's in camp, but still...

All I know is, his 5 year deal averages about $3 million a year (which is exactly how much they were paying Ben Utecht @ 3yrs $9 mill) This is going to be a VERY good deal in a year or two.

Actually, 20 was a four-year deal with a fifth option year. So that's about $3.3 million/year over 4 years.

Over five years, Gresham averages a bit less than $3.2 million/year.

Then Thomas gets about $2.5 million/year at 22.

Gresham does appear to have a higher max (more than $18 million) versus Jackson at 20 (about $16 million) but my bet is that the option year will cost the Texans $3-4 million.

(edited because I can't add)

Every source I've seen says nothing about the 5th yr being an option yr. I think it's 5 yrs/ $13.1 mill
