The positives from 09 to 10

1. The maturity of the defense. They ended up 7th in the NFL. The defense is young and will get better and better with experience in the system.

2. The offensive line. This was looked at as a weakness going into last season. Now with the positions all set, and Andre Smith getting an entire offseason in the system and this unit will be even better. Reggie Kelly will also help with his blocking.

3. Weapons for Palmer. We all know what happend last year. They've added A. Byant, M. Jones, J. Grisham, Shipley, and Coffman will be healthy. Scott should be able the help out with screen passes etc.. Everyone tries to point to Palmer's elbow, but he put up over 300 yards in week 14. I believe it was the lack of weapons.

The bad is the schedule will be tougher. The the only point people have about the Bengals demise is their past. Which is really irrelevant. It makes as much sense as talking about New Orleans never going to a Super Bowl before last season. The character of this team is better than it's ever been in the Marvin Lewis era, and I think the locker room is tighter than ever. They won't have last years distractions either, and as usual there are no expectations. The great Ravens can deal with that.

Is this the year?

I feel good about this year. Yes, we have a very tough schedule, but that will only help to build more character in this team. There will probably be a lot of close games, and I like how they played in close games last year. Going 6-3 in games decided by a TD or less. 3-2 by a FG or less.

I like the schedule to. Those giant games should get them ready for the playoffs. I thought the big 3 would be down last year, but it even looks worse for them this year.

Indianapolis will have the Super Bowl target on their back.

New England no Wes Welker

Pitt - Bens vacation

Can't worry about schedule. First, our sched is the same as the rest of the division except for two games. Admittedly those are against the Colts and the Bolts - two teams unlikely to take a real slide - but if they take care of business in the games they're favored they should still be OK.

Second, who the hell knows what teams will crater this year, and which ones will surprise.

As of mid May we're looking pretty good but it's too early to get excited. I want to see how we weather the injury bug. Last year it was the TE position, a few years ago it was LB and we had Caleb Miller starting at MLB. It's nice to project hard roster decisions in May because that means we can deal with a couple injuries. I am particularly interested in the health of Andre Smith and Coffman. Then there are folks recovering like Gresham, Odom, Kelly, Williams and Rey. Not everyone is going to recover 100%. We'll know more in August

More depth. Especially at WR, TE, DL and CB (yes I'm counting on the cornerback formerly known as Pacman to be much better than many think).

Of course come to think of it I probably thought depth at TE was a positive at this time last year.
