Report: Jonathan Dwyer, Anthony McCoy tested positive at the Combine

Posted by Mike Florio on April 18, 2010 6:51 PM ET

The confidential list of players who tested positive at the February Scouting Combine finally has been distributed to the teams.

And, as usual, it's confidentiality has been compromised.

Jay Glazer and Alex Marvez of FOXSports.com report that Georgia Tech running back Jonathan Dwyer and USC tight end Anthony McCoy are the biggest names on the list.

Per the report, Dwyer tested positive for amphetamines, but a source told Glazer and/or Marvez that the result was triggered by a prescription medication that Dwyer has clearance to take for a pre-existing condition. (Maybe he caught "lethargy addiction" from JaMarcus Russell.)

McCoy tested positive for marijuana. His agents reportedly revealed the result to NFL teams weeks ago in an apparent effort to whip up a little chicken salad.

Though it was wise to get the word out, given that the teams get the official list too late in the process to do anything other than take the kid's name off the board, the fact remains that the only guys who test positive for pot at the Combine are either really dumb, or they have a problem.

McCoy is projected as a second-day pick. Dwyer could go as high as round three, or early on day three.

I'll tell you, living in SoCal, there are Medical Marijuana dispensaries popping up everywhere. I personally haven't touched that stuff since High School, but know people who have medical cards to get it legally. Apparently you can get one very easily, for reasons such as Insomnia, Back pain, Chronic pain (no pun intended), basically any reason. Maybe the dude hit up one of the Dispensaries near the Campus.

Way to go buddy, you just cost yourself some $$$

This might sound strange... but I'm glad. It might help him drop to the 3rd round, and that's where I want the Bengals to draft him.

Oh how things have changed. People are actually hoping to draft a pothead now? I like McCoy, but I'd definitely dig pretty deep into his background first to see if there was a pattern of use.

I'm not condoning his behavior. But neither did I condone Maualuga's behavior pre-draft. But I was still happy he was there in the 2nd round.

Not really sure how this is any different. No one cares that Percy Harvin smoked weed prior to the combine. They are much more concerned about his migranes than anything.

Actually, it did hurt Harvin. The Vikes took a chance, and had they not, he most likely would have fallen to the Giants at #29 overall. I saw some early mocks last year with him being a top 15 pick (he went #22). The main difference is, Harvin was a 1st RD talent, so his slip was marginal. McCoy was probably a 3rd Rd pick before....now, who knows? Maybe 3rd still, maybe 4th or worse?

The way I read it, he meant that no one cares now that he smoked weed prior to the combine, a thought with which I agree. Every draft has guys with "questions" and if the guy's a player in the NFL the "questions" kinda fade away. If he flames out, then the "questions" become obvious red flags that were ignored by the team that drafted him. One thing that's obviously true, this doesn't help his contract value and if you're his agent you're either slamming your head against a wall or lighting up a fattie to make the pain go away.

You're actually making my point for me. I was saying that next year at this point, no one will be thinking about him smoking weed (unless he twitters about it like Santonio). And if he ends up being a good player, we'll all be pretty damn happy that the Bengals stole him later in the draft because of this incident.

If that means I'm hoping the Bengals draft pot heads... so be it. McCoy was my choice before this news came out, and it doesn't change because of it. Again, I don't condone it... but ultimately I guess I don't care that much.

I made this same argument last year regarding the risk involved with A. Smith. I'm not asking him to babysit my kids. I'm asking him to play football for my amusement, so call me unconcerned.

PS,if you want A medical Marijuana card just put your balls by a microwave.

Sounds worth it. Hair, did you have to do that to your balls to get a medical marijuana card?

What's that? Yet another thread inquiring about the size and condition of my testicles? And worse, I see how this inquiry wasn't written by TJ Jackson, as were the previous dozen?

NADS!
