HairOnFire
As much as it gets old around here because certain people keep bringing it up, Chad DID tank last (2008) season and admitted it in multiple interviews AND wrote about it in his book, which he was writing at the time. Yup. And so what if the debate about Chad deliberately tanking a full season gets old OR simply makes some Bengal fans uncomfortable? As long as Chad remains on this team his current state of happiness will always be relevant due to the level of risk the team faces whenever Chad is in the mood to pout like a child. Please. Whatever else can be said about Chad he's proven himself to capable of acts as unprofessional as any ever witnessed. Acts of unprofessionalism that I remind you weren't heat of the moment outbursts, but rather...deliberately planned displays of douchebaggery meant to play out week after week for a full year or more. All wrapped up in a neat package topped with a ribbons and bows and a cute little card that reads..."This is what happens to YOUR team when I'm not happy" And there's the rub, because Chad often uses his immediate state of bliss as an excuse for his own individual failings...an excuse his backers are only too quick to use in his defense. They argue Chad NEEDS to play the fool to be happy, and if he isn't happy he simply CAN'T produce. So let him clown, they say. Let him make lists, offer empty boasts, and do business as Ocho Cinco. And if the one thing that would make Chad the most happy this coming season is another clown to join him in the too tiny car speeding around the big top, well.....where's the harm? Because, at worst, it's just one more thing, right? So why not embrace the madness by going all in. Indeed, why not go full retard if it's what Chad wants? Trevor
I dont see why all of you dont like chad... He's our best receiver in history and he's still unbelievably awesome... How many guys can do the things chad does?.. Not many i tell ya, not many at all. And he's not a dbag either. He's very nice guyYou obviously never saw Isaac Curtis during his playing days, Chad is still the #2 WR to ever play for te Bengals, no matter what the stats say.(nods head vigorously in agreement)He would get shut down in todays game IMO

The NFL had to change the rules of the game for this guy, due to the threat that he presented to defenses each week, and the punishment he received as a result of it. Seventeen yards-per-catch for a career is impressive in any era, and this guy was Jerry Rice before Jerry Rice, IMO.

Isaac was and is the best WR I have ever seen play for the Bengals. It is not even a close call.I think if Curtis were to have played in todays game he would have even better numbers than he did, more pass happy offenses, mean more touches. With a such a large average per catch he would still be a game-changer, something that Chad has forgotten how to do. Curtis had better hands than Chad, ran better routes than Chad and had much better YAC moves. The clincer though is Isaac always gave 100%, every play, not just when he felt like it. bwillycuse
Really everyone?Really? So thats what you all think about Torry? You all hate Chad....We know it. Weve read about it in hundreds of posts. He is an evil person and he is the devil to some of you.Ced Benson Tanked a few seasons as well in Chicago. Some players have tanked seasons but dont mention it and get a free pass. There are different degrees of 'tanked'. He didnt put his all into the season. Palmer had worse stats. Fitzpatrick tanked it as well because he had ZERO production. Looks like the whole team tanked the season if you ask me. They were 0-8 at one point. One player doesn't cause that kind of debacle.I dont love Chad and his antics. I could do without. But he has given ALL of you many touchdowns to cheer for. Many great catches. Many good moments.I wait for the days when he is gone and we are still looking for a good elite receiver. We will still hear Fredo speak and the longing for another receiver to break all the records for the team we root for.btw - I dont want Torry Holt. HairOnFire
So thats what you all think about Torry? Don't let the thread title confuse you because this thread isn't about Torry Holt...just as the TO threads aren't about Owens....Jerome Simpson threads aren't about Simpson....and Matt Jones threads aren't about Matt Jones. Rather, these are all Chris Henry threads in mild disguise. Ced Benson Tanked a few seasons as well in Chicago. And I'm told Bears fans hate him for it. So was there a point you wanted to make?I dont love Chad and his antics. I could do without. Me too. However, anytime I openly consider what a Chad-less Bengal team might look like I'm told he's all we've got. That without him the passing game would be so inept it would rank as one of the worst in the entire NFL. Which always reminds me how it already does.I wait for the days when he is gone and we are still looking for a good elite receiver. I wouldn't mind having a lesser version of Chad Johnson back, but I long for the days when Ocho Cinco is gone. Period. btw - I dont want Torry Holt. Of course you don't. After all, we've already got Coles. What this team apparently needs, above all else, is a new Cheech-style decoy who can run around without the ball in his hands faster than anyone else on the roster. TJJackson
Really everyone?Really?Yes.Really.Ced Benson Tanked a few seasons as well in Chicago. The key to my "I mostly dont care" response is the "in Chicago" part of your statement. I say "mostly" in that I do care about if he were to tank again - here. But then again, I dont think it willSome players have tanked seasons but dont mention it and get a free pass.Burden of proof of this statement is on you. Get crackin'. Oh, and your proof must be for two players or more, as you did say 'players' plural. Much luck. Palmer had worse stats.Aside from the glaring fact that a QB's stats are not directly comparable to a WR's -- it appears you don't understand the meaning of the word 'tanked' in the context used hereinFitzpatrick tanked it as well because he had ZERO production.A patently false statement, and more evidence that you have no clue what the word 'tanked' means in this context.Looks like the whole team tanked the season if you ask me.Looks like you have no clue what the word means. Yep, you've pretty much confirmed it rock-solidly.They were 0-8 at one point. I could do without. But he has given ALL of you many touchdowns to cheer for. Many great catches. Twice in a row. Hair..yours was nice. Thank YouTJ - jump down the throat of everyone TJ.Tanked - You can tank a season in many different ways. There are many different degrees of tanked. If 100% is the amount of effort you put into something. Deciding to only work at a goal at 99% of you capability can be considered tanked. If you want to get technical..which it looks like you do. He put forth effert. If it was an obvious tanking Im sure Marvin would have pulled him.So you are saying that no one can tank(again pretty broad word) a season without stating publically that they did so? I cant prove who deliberately tanked a season. But I think its naive to think that no one has. I think you know that but just like to argue sentences and words within someones message.I just found it odd (oh wait..familiar) that a completely unrelated thread turned into yet ANOTHER bash Chad thread. You know you are gonna hurt Chads feelings right?I just want you to know that I have CJ on a very short leash. I was also pissed at him for what he did that year. I listened to him on Sirius NFL every thursday all summer long come on and complain about the bengals. Listened to him publically sell himself to ther teams. It had me fuming. But he since has admitted what he had done. Apologized for it and has been nothing but a stand up person and player since. I am able to forgive him for the 'tanking'. But you are fooling yourself if you think he was the reason the team did poorly that year. You are fooling yourself if you are blaming him on the 2005 playoff loss. The other reasons why you dont like him (dropped passes, no blocking, quitting on plays)are valid reasons to not love the guy/ But the incredible plays, the incredible stats, the love to our city he gives, the money he donates, the laws he abides by, the hard work he puts in, the smiles on the faces of the other players he jokes around with, and on and on are reasons IMO to give the man some slack. You have the right to feel how you want. But its time to put down the pitchfork and try love for a change.TJ needs a hug. oh - I also want to address the Boomer Esiason view of motivating a db to play better by talking trash. I would hope the db plays his hardest against everyone he plays, regardless of banter. If he isnt then he is deliberately 'tanking' it. Just in a smaller subset. HairOnFire
Hair..yours was nice. Thank You What can I say? I'm actually a nice guy most of the time. But the incredible plays, the incredible stats, the love to our city he gives, the money he donates, the laws he abides by, the hard work he puts in, the smiles on the faces of the other players he jokes around with, and on and on are reasons IMO to give the man some slack. Ahhhh yes, slack. As a longtime follower of the Reverend JR "Bob" Dobbs, whose pipe smoking skull is pictured in my avatar, I know well there's nothing more important, or harder to achieve, than a state of perfect slack. In fact, it's the single most important goal of all members of the Church of SubGenuis. Sadly, I'm a bit of a backslider and my quest to achieve true slackness is woefully incomplete...as demonstrated by my inability to forgive Chad. TJ needs a hug. Perhaps, but whenever dealing with TJ "Sweetie" Jackson always keep one thing in mind. "Beware of the reach around."
