Bengals to host Jets in early Saturday game

If they were trying to boost there confidence some, that sure didnt work. Sure didnt boost my confidence going into that game. It was stupid expose his players if was truly not in it to win. That game made the Bengals look like the worst team in the NFL, i wouldnt be suprised if they didnt have a National televised game next year because of this lol.

That's just the thing, I think. Embarassing the entire fanbase is a bummer, but it'll have no impact on the football game Saturday (unless the morons in Cincinnati start booing at the first sign of trouble).

Chances are they will they boo after everytime they run the ball. I just hope they come out fired up and destroy the Jets that will make me forget about this game :sure:

This is all fine and dandy, but if the d-line and LBs get pushed around like they did tonight then they wont be going anywhere anytime soon.

The O-line better show up as well Palmer had no time to throw tonight, and the Wr better be ready to catch the ball. I just really want to see something better then this.

I'm not worried about getting pushed around We'll Have Peko back,They Won't Have Skuta & Hodge on the 4th play of the game and Jets Used alot of "Cards" they had in their sleeve during that game so Bengals know to watch for the "Wild Jet or bomber or tiger or what ever they called their wildcat"

I'm chill. But I said all along last night didn't matter, so the beatdown didn't get me all riled up. The only regrettable thing was losing Sims.

Ya that was heart breaking watching him get carted off,Depth so Key at Defensive Tackle wouldn't mind taking a DT early next year even if we resign Tank to make sure we have Depth.

you guys are killing me, we did not give the jets nothing to look at. there are 16 weeks of games that they will have plenty to look at. your fooling your self if you think the jets don't know what they are facing. what do you think were going to do. call the league offices .

Difference From watching it on tape and Getting a feel on it for the field.

Not to mention, the Jets only have film for the Bengals games against the other 12 teams they've played. They have no clue whatsoever what the Bengals intend to do against them specifically, and that's very important.

Agreed,You build game plays for the team ya they can watch how we play the Browns,Steelers & Ravens but each team has it's own strengths and weakness's so you play them differently.

Here's some good news. The Jets might be without their top two middle linebackers, David Harris and Ryan Fowler.

Not entirely accurate. Just thought I would clarify. David Harris is one of the best inside LB's in all of football. Their other inside LB is a guy you're all familiar with, Bart Scott. Ryan Fowler is a backup that hasn't hardly seen the field all season. Honestly, I had never heard of him until last night when he whiffed badly on a tackle. I would have noticed if he had just made a nice special teams tackle prior to that whiff. Jay Feely is a much better tackler than what Fowler showed last night.

Yeah, sorry. I'd forgotten about your 3-4 alignment.

I wonder.

Since the Raider game I can't get a Tom Cable remark out of my mind. Cable claimed the Bengals ran the most simple defensive scheme his team had faced all season.

It wasn't an insult. In fact, it was lofty praise. Cable went on to explain how the Bengals defensive success was built soley on discipline and sound fundamentals. Nothing fancy. Just two outstanding corners who could survive playing man to man and a defensive front good enough to get steady pass pressure from it's four down lineman. In fact, Cable claimed the Bengals blitzed using LB's less than any team the Raiders had faced this season...preferring the rare blitz from the defensive secondary. But nothing exotic. And he went on to say how his greatest challenge was getting his team to trust each other well enough to become as good as the Bengals defense had become.

Great stuff, right? But now, weeks later, we're seeing a defense worn down, mostly by attrition, but also from the increased demands placed upon it by the misfiring offense. So I can't help wonder if they haven't lost too many important players on a defense that was never built around complex schemes and trickery, but rather....toughness and hard physical play.

This team played great "team defense" for much of the year, but as of late there have been many players out of postion. If you watch players are not in there gaps like they should be, and the D-line has been getting pushed around. They need to get back to physical defense, and playing smart fundemental defense. I know there have been many players hurt, but all year they have been playing with the no-name defense, and just playing great team defense. Even with these injuries i think if they play there gaps and play physical i think they should be ok.

I'm thinking Peko is the anchor of this year's defense. He's been gone since the 3rd quarter of the Lions game. Getting him back will be a huge lift emotionally and physically. Will it make enough difference this Saturday is to be seen.

Another key physical player is Crocker. He matches up very well against a running team. As with Peko, Crocker is the vocal leader of the secondary. One returns to the D line, one returns to the secondary.

But that's just the point. There are too many mistakes being made by the players attempting to replace what's been lost. Increasingly, we've seen a loss in the discipline and experience the fallen veterans provided.....resulting in what was always a very simple scheme becoming inreasingly exposed. Worse, a defense that once bristled with heavy hitters almost everywhere has lost a staggering number of it's most physical players, and with them went the swagger many other players were feeding off of. Finally, too many productive role players are now forced into starting roles they can't consistently man at an acceptable NFL standard. And that's all an opposing team needs to build a gameplan around.

Just for fun, I passed some time reading NYJ forums today. Short version: majority opinion is that the Bengals suck, only got in because the rest of the division sucks, and the Jets will blow us out at home just like they did last night.

Just thought you'd like to know. We have no hope. May as well forfeit & start the draft talk now... <_<

Well, then, if you're right we are going to find out if Mike Zimmer is really the super-mega-awesome d-coordinator he's being heralded as, or if he's simply a superior motivator.

What if he's both?

I'll admit I'm worried too much of the Bengals defensive success was the result of mostly veteran players playing smash ball in a very simple scheme that has now been bled, perhaps fatally. Furthermore, I'm guessing that if they don't get healthy fast....they'll probably have to compensate with a more exotic defensive gameplan. And that's not what they do.

Nutshelled, Peko has to play and play well. Crocker too, but Peko most of all.

Peko's been waiting to play for the last 2 weeks. I hope he comes out as ready and able to play as he did the first half of the season.
