Jack Ikegwuonu visits with the Bengals

Posted by Mike Florio on December 1, 2009 9:23 PM ET

The Cincinnati Bengals, who continue to have a soft spot for second-chance players with past legal issues, visited Tuesday with yet another high-talent player whose career has been undermined by off-field troubles.

Per a league source, cornerback Jack Ikegwuonu met with the Bengals on Tuesday. To date, he has not signed a contract.

Regarded as a possible first-round prospect in 2008, Ikegwuonu tore an ACL while preparing for pre-draft workouts. The Eagles drafted him in round four.

Earlier this year, Ikegwuonu was acquitted on burglary charges arising from a claim that Ikegwuonu and his brother entered an apartment and stole a non-360 Xbox.

The Eagles cut him in early September, signed him to the practice squad thereafter, signed him to the active roster on November 11, and cut him on November 24.

The Bengals also visited with safety Marcus McLinton, who signed with the Patriots earlier this year as an undrafted free agent.

Hey, maybe he can get the state or county to give him a grant or subsidy to take on all these "troubled" workers?

Perhaps that is the angle here.

I know we have our RB crew well set on depth but is Lawrence Philips up for parole soon? Just curious.

What, he only stole a non-360 Xbox? Aim higher, African-name guy cut by the Eagles, like a Wii or something. Non-360? Ha! If he comes to Cincinnati, I'm hiding my Commodore 64 computer and my Atari.

:lmao:

Legal issues? Someone claimed he'd broken the law and a court of law found that claim to be false. But yeah, he's working our for the bengals so he's a 'rogue element', a maverick, a soldier of fortune etc.

The Pats are being really f**king stupid this season. McKenzie and now ignoring this guy. They have Gay as a starting CB FFS.

Yawn.

The "outrage" over "character issues" just ain't what it used to be.

Perhaps they're still numb from the news/speculation regarding Tiger Woods being passed out on somebodys lawn.

Hmmm I wonder if Tiger can kick :o

Think they'll let him use a 3 iron and take over our kickoffs?

If so, based on the reports thus far, I think I'd prefer to have his batsh*t crazy wife cover said kick - maybe he could 'kick' the ball and hurry off the field and she pinch-kick-covers for him

I'm still numb from the news that Tiger allegedly cheated on his gorgeous Swedish wife. Who then proceeded to allegedly whup his ass.

I'm allegedly in love.

I know right. Dude, you're married to a Swedish model. You've won the game of life. To then prod those two raggedy looking bints...well, I guess nobody accused Tiger of being a smart man.

I wasn't terribly familiar with who Jack Ikegwuonu is, so I was trying to find some info on him. I found this interesting opinion about his pre-draft stock.

Ikegwuonu will miss the entire 2008 season for whichever team acquires his services. The knee injury and a lack of elite speed will likely force him to move to safety in the NFL. This move may benefit his career in the long run since it will suit his physical style of play better.

His potential at safety as well as his experience at CB makes sense to me as far as why Cincy would be interested in him.

I can remember getting worked up about the Bengals approach to these types of players and I have since gotten over it.

Amazing what winning some games and having those players produce can do to ones attitude.

If we weren't doing as well as we are, we would be taking more flack for moves like these.
