rishipatel Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4564833$25,000...that's a lot compared to other fines so far this yr. I like it. I'm glad Ray got fined for that hit even if Chad didn't want him to be. It was an unnecessary hit based on the play. Quote

ArmyBengal Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 Absolutely cheap late hit, that deserved to be fined. $25,000 though ?? D*mn that seems steep. Quote

D*mn that seems steep.Drop in the bucket for a high paid veteran. I think they should get fined much more, so it actually might hurt a little. Hell Chad paid $10,000 to wear a pink chin strap and than turned around and matched the fine to the charity. These dollar amounts are pocket money for them. Quote
Ickey44 Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 I just saw on Sportscenter that Ray Lewis was fined $25,000 for his helmet to helmet hit on Chad Sunday. I figured a fine would be coming, but wow.... Quote
Ickey44 Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 Oops, didn't know there was a thread for this in the other forum. My bad... Quote
ArmyBengal Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 Regardless of the impact the fine has on the individual player, my feeling is that the fines are fair across the board. For example, Vandenbosch from the Titans was fined only $5000.00 (only) for his low hit on Peyton Manning in their last game. That was a rule that was recently changed and the league is REALLY cracking down on and he got $5000.00. While I don't believe the Vandebosch hit was as flagrant and cheap as Ray's, it's still considered a cheap shot. Then using the example of Chad getting fined $10,000 in comparison for a uniform violation is just silly. The league needs to be better at regulating this type of stuff. Quote
Ickey44 Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 Apparently, Ray was fined for the cheapshot on Ocho, plus for kicking another Bengals player on a different play. I don't know what the other play was, but that's according to the article on NFL.com. Quote

COB Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 That hit was one of the worst examples of attempting to injure another player I can think of. Seriously, helpless receiver well after the ball is dropped, and the hit was helmet to helmet. The resulting injury could have been very serious, and I'm half surprised they didn't suspend Lewis for the hit. Whether Chad wanted Ray fined or not is irrelevant, along with every other word that comes out of Chad's mouth. Quote

Stupid... Quote
Pidge Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 I think Chad said he wasn't fined for wearing the chinstrap. It was in one of the locker room interviews. Quote

I don't know what the other play was, but that's according to the article on NFL.com.Yeah, I just saw that too. I guess the amount of the fine was based on two violations. Apparently he was fined for kicking a bengals player which Harbaugh says on video was an "inadvertent trip". Whatever, the guy still deserves the fines. It was a shot to the head that could have doen serious damage but luckily didn't. Quote

Tired of guys like him (Rodney Harrison, John Lynch and others) taking unnecessary cheap shots on people . I am all for hard tackling and physical play but that kinda stuff has gone too far. The problem is the league will turn around and use that money on the latest DVD of "Biggest Hits in the NFL" or something like that.I think it funny that it is nearly identical to the play against the Browns in early 2006 where Chad got rung up. As I recall there wasn't even a flag on that play. Quote

ShulaSteakhouse Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 I love the 2009 Chad. Still loathe the last name change though. Quote

cincyhokie Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 Penalty or not, monetary fine or not...Ray Lewis is a dumbass for taking the shot and hurting his team's chance to win considering what he spent 3 minutes bitching about it in the post game interviews vs. NE. If you know the refs are going to call it, don't do it! Idiot. Quote

If you know the refs are going to call it, don't do it! Idiot.Yep. That's the kind of move, where if you're a dirtbag, you maybe think about doing when it's a 2-score game late in the 4th. To do it when the opposing team is driving for a game-winning score, that's just stupid. With that sort of impulse control problem, I'm surprised Ray's never killed anyone. Quote

I don't know what the other play was, but that's according to the article on NFL.com.As was stated, the trip was on Coats, and was blatant, as I was immediatley screaming for a 15 yd flag after seeing the replay. If you get a chance to watch the replay, first play on the last drive, replay shows it clearly. Quote
Vine Street Zoo Posted October 17, 2009 Report Posted October 17, 2009 I THINK LEWIS SHOULD FACE CRIMINAL CHARGES. I DID NOT SEE THE HIT BUT I READ HE CREATED OCHO JOHNSON'S HELMET OFF.THAT IS ASSUALT IF YOU ASK ME. YOU CAN KILL SOMEONE WITH A SPIRAL LIKE THAT. Quote

HairOnFire Posted October 17, 2009 Report Posted October 17, 2009 Ray Lewis tripped Dan Coats on the first play of the last drive when Carr got an illegal contact on Caldwell behind him! I remember b/c I thought they called Ray for the kick or "inadvertent trip" as Harbaurgh so delicately puts it! Prior to the Bengal game NFL Playbook broke down the recent failures of the Raven defense, especially against New England, and concluded several members of the Raven defense are completely incapable of defending against the pass. As a result, those players were said to have been given, by Raven coaches, a green light to commit coverage penalties on critical late game drives, especially on opposing teams 2-minute drives. In fact, the Bengal game quickly became the 3rd game in a row where a rash of late game penalties were called on the Raven defense. Oh, and the two Raven players most often named as being incapable of defending the pass? None other than Carr, said to be a hopeless CB capable of little more than grabbing, and a rapidly declining Ray Lewis. Quote
