agreen_112
Maualuga may have been the Ultimate Grinder on Sunday. Taken off the sidelines on a cart late in the third quarter after he heard his knee pop, he came back running out of the tunnel just in time for the start of the fourth with what looks to be, at worst, a sprained MCL.To get carted off the field and then return back to the game shows how tough he really is...But I'm affraid this "pop" may be torn cartilege/minuscus.. How many weeks would he miss for a sprained MCL or for getting a little cartilege scoped out?
ArmyBengal
Looking at the replay, I sat there telling Mrs. ArmyBengal that it looked like the same type of injury Polumalu suffered and depending on severity, 2-6 weeks for it to heal properly. Seeing him come back out and actually play tells me if it is in fact a sprain, it's VERY mild. The medical staff wouldn't have let him go right back out there again.Did anyone watching see him on the sidelines with a coach and the coach saying, something to the effect of "is it in your head" ??I don't know, maybe I was seeing things. I wasn't real happy at that point...
skyline
Everything sounds as if he'll be fine. If he has to miss a game, then the Cleveland game is the one to miss...

I wasn't real happy at that point...You can play on torn cartiledge/minuscus too Army without knowing.. The only way to tell is through an MRI. I tore cartilege in my knee playing back in High School. I intercepted a ball and when I got tackled I felt a pop. It was pretty scary. I got carried off the field because I really didn't think I could walk on it.. Once on the sideline, I was moving around like it was nothing. I went back out for the next defensive series. I played for the rest of the season until I found out it was tore by getting an MRI. My knee locked up on me a couple of times and I knew something wasn't right. For me, it was a 2-3 month healing process. I think NFL players are good a few weeks after the orthescopic surgery.Anyhow, it was a good sign that he was back out there playing.. Let's hope for the best.
skyline
Just posted on .com:Head coach Marvin Lewis had no news on injuries, but he thinks SAM linebacker Rey Maualuga is going to be OK after undergoing an MRI on his knee Monday afternoon. He was limping in the locker room in the morning but went to a meeting and said he’s OK.

volcom69
Yea i also hope he is going to be ok,dont want to lose him for any games this year. He is a true team player, after yesterday.......do you think a guy like TJ, or Rudi would have come back in after that i doubt it. I am so happy with this draft pick, now lets just hope he is ok. Sea Ray
Remember Marvin always downplays injuries in his pressers. The important thing here is Rey hadn't had the MRI as of 1pm when Marvin's press conference was over so he didn't know the results yet. We don't want Rey playing on a bad knee like Peter Warrick and Levi Jones did. They never did recover

SupaBran
*Fingers and Toes crossed*I think he'll be fine but maybe we should rest him for the Clowns game.Rey can say he has no animosity towards the Squeelers and its just another game, but I know there was something extra for this game for him! HairOnFire
As I watched them cart Rey off the field I wondered aloud if the script never changes for this team. And then it did.

jonahdsage
Rey's been cleared to play. woot!per the dot comI'm going to capitalize your woot and surround it with Bengals. WOOT To paraphrase his interview: "Ya know, if your leg gets cut off, or it's gushing blood, ya know I guess you don't play. For me, I didn't want to be selfish and just worry about me, I wanted to be on the field and make sure we won. I could walk, I felt fine, so I went back out."During Chad's interview someone asked him if he was nervous about cleveland putting up 51 again or something and I wanted chad to slap him. No way ANYBODY is putting 51 up on this defense. I think we're going to bring serious pressure on the right side of their line, force doubles, and let antwan and Rey go to work on the left. Our corners will be able to shut them down 1 v 1 and I hope we make the scrap for a one yard run. Man, getting real excited for Sunday (and it's only wednesday.) Rey's going to be playing pissed. semiotter
Damn cept for a unlucky bounce we could be on our way to a 4-0 start. If we beat cleveland ( you notice I didn't capitalise cleveland). LoL

If we beat cleveland ( you notice I didn't capitalise cleveland). LoLY'know...I'm not sure. It's been a favorite line the last week - "oh, if it weren't for that fluke bounce in week 1 the Bengals would be 3-0" but in hindsight I'm not sure it wasn't exactly what the team needed. If they win in week 1, do they come out like they did in weeks 2 and 3? I dunno. But what was Marvin's theme? "Finish," right? And what could pound that in more firmly than a last-second loss in week 1?If I am Marvin I have that play on the film every week from now until there are no more games to play. "This is what happens when you don't finish. Who wants to feel that way again?"The football gods may have been on our side after all. We'll see. ArmyBengal
Hoosier, I was going to wait until after the Ravens (win?) to being up the same point. It would seem that maybe that last second fluke of a miracle play that gave the Bengals a heartbreaking loss, may have given the team something else right along with it. Determination, heart, and a toughness that hasn't existed in this organization for what seems like forever. You wouldn't think a loss would help a team, but maybe Denver winning that game was a blessing in disguise. Thanks ?!?!
Pidge
Is Marvin's theme this year really 'finish'? Not that I'm suggesting this indicative of anything but didn't the '88 Bengals under Wyche have a similar theme?
membengal
I'm with Hoosier and Army. No way can we assume if Denver doesn't end like it does they are 2-1. For all we know, they win that, then lose the next two like a lot of us were expecting when we war-gamed the season to be sitting at 1-2 right now.The manner in which they lost that game gave them an extremely early "gut-check" moment. The "what are we going to be as a team" moment. And, happily, the only ones in the world, as near as I can tell, other than maybe Kazkal on this board, that were ready to deal with that productively were in that lockerroom. But would they have known that without the opportunity to find out? Would they have prepared for GB the same, or Pittsburgh? Perhaps. Perhaps not. Impossible to say. But I have the same wondering that you guys do. Did the test after that first game help them go "all in" as a team? If so, then perhaps we do owe the football gods a debt of thanks. Because this is, through three and a half weeks, the most professional and focused football team I have seen around Cincy in two decades. Far more so than the 04' - 07' edition. membengal
Oh, and on the original thread topic, I don't know if the team felt it, but Mauluga walking back from the tunnel and back into the game was one of the most unexpected and inspirational things I have seen as a Bengals fan in quite some time. Between he and Leon Hall fighting to get back on the field and finish that game, well, let's just say that feels like something new for this team...
