HoosierCat Posted September 6, 2009 Report Posted September 6, 2009 Wow. Didn't see that one coming.Word is that they figured they couldn't pay both him and Wilfork when their deals were up next year, so get some value now.I wish Mikey could be this creative... Quote

Stripes Posted September 6, 2009 Report Posted September 6, 2009 I'm so sick of teams making idiotic trades that allow New England to pile on first round picks for essentially no loss. Quote
HoosierCat Posted September 6, 2009 Author Report Posted September 6, 2009 I'm so sick of teams making idiotic trades that allow New England to pile on first round picks for essentially no loss. They certainly know how to build through the draft, eh? NE now has 3 firsts and 4 seconds in the next two drafts. Quote

Pidge Posted September 6, 2009 Report Posted September 6, 2009 Great business. Helps the cap situation going forward, Seymour is reaching the age of diminishing returns anyway and they'll most likely have a top 5 pick next yr. Can they trade this pick with another team or not (it not being their own 1st rnd pick originally?). If they can they will trade down and get far more value. If they can't, they'll stay away from Florida WRs and go after a great pick up, maybe Taylor Mays and trade their own first rounder lower in the 1st to get more value later on.Screw them and their long-term strategy for building a winning team. volcom69 Posted September 6, 2009 Report Posted September 6, 2009 I think a #1 is very high for him, he is getting up there in age, and who knows what happens to him now in oakland where the defense isnt as good as Pats Quote
Pidge Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 I think a #1 is very high for him, he is getting up there in age, and who knows what happens to him now in oakland where the defense isnt as good as PatsYep, he's getting on and his injuries have become a little more regular. Good player but the Pats would have been insane to not take a 1st rounder for him, especially as it's likely a top5/10 pick at that. Quote
Kazkal Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 yup I see them trading down and it's like each year they'll only gain more and more draft picks until they control a entire 1st round lol. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 Word is Seymour is "angry" about the trade and hasn't reported in for his physical yet. It would be interesting if he doesn't report, because it will be like the trade never happened... Quote
BengalszoneBilly Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 Word is Seymour is "angry" about the trade and hasn't reported in for his physical yet. How could he be happy about being traded to Oakland? I'd be mad as hell too. He just went from the top shelf Patriots to the s**t hole Raiders, which should put anyone on a suicide watch! Quote
HairOnFire Posted September 17, 2009 Report Posted September 17, 2009 Screw them and their long-term strategy for building a winning team. Scott Piolli spelled it out pretty well in a 60 Minutes interview several years ago. Asked point blank to describe the single thing he does differently than other GM's Piolli immediately pointed to the Patriots habit of replacing veteran players early, especially star players. "You have to begin the process of replacing a star player when he's still appearing in Pro Bowls. If you wait until you start to see cracks, or until the guys contract is up...it's too late." Quote

The dude suited up with minimal practice with his team and made an impact. Quote

He's been nicked the last couple of yrs and had one yr left on his contract. Their D is missing half of it's vets frfom last yr already. Bit of a rebuilding job and extra picks/giving the younger guys more playing time this yr, puts them in good stead going forwards. Even if it down't end in a deep playoff run for them.Wilfork is the guy they need to keep long term anyway, and that's not just my Canes bias talking (well Ok, maybe a little but the dude is a beast of a DT when he isn't try to poke peoples' eyes out).
