Frankly, I've never been in favor of banning anyone, and I'd only consider doing it now if tolerating dinks like MamaBearHog1975 costs this board interesting writers like Mem or Shank. It's not a "touchy feely concept of fairness", because "fair" is whatever the hell the owners of this board want it to be. Rather, the issue is that once that line gets crossed, the "I ban you because you're annoying" thing gets overused. Just seems to me that the benefits don't outweigh the risks in this case.

Now, if the board wants to start warning people for posting OT, that's one thing, and he'll have earned his fate if he doesn't shape up. But rather than booting the guy, I'd rather see some guidelines on what's allowed and what's not, so that we can improve the place and keep threads on topic. I'd rather it *not* turn into "people whine at the mods to ban people they don't like until the board turns into a useless clique", because I've seen that happen and it sucks. Place would turn into one big echo chamber if that happens.

Here's the thing: I have to say, the notion of threads getting hijacked into personal attacks or OT rants didn't start, nor will it end, with that guy. So it's one of those "be careful of what we wish for" kinds of things.

My favorite ex-poster on Bengalzone might be TubThumper, a guy who never missed a chance to complain about how much he hated Cincinnati, his adopted home. Funny thing about it is I reminded him once about bus tires being round for a reason, and how they could take his ass somewhere else as long as he had options. His response to my post was no response at all, and I never saw another post from him. Ever.

The problem is, if you start booting people because they're unpopular, it never stops with the guy you're talking about. It's tough to un-open that Pandora's Box. That's why I'm interested in seeing proof of actual deception on his part. If it exists, as you and Hair mention (which I easily could have simply missed), then I withdraw any objection as stated.

Where should we start? Do you want a recap of the half dozen or so times MamaBearHog has already been caught lying? Or should I find the numerous examples where he's written a bunch of crap and then tried to pass it off as a direct quote of something others have said? Because he's done that several times that I know of, most often involving me, but also Mike Brown? Or how about this one from TJ's goofy airplane thread....

In honesty, I'm not likely going anywhere. But I haven't been posting much lately, mostly because the majority of the threads all run together. In the offseason some of that is to be expected... simply because of the lack of news.

But here we are. The regular season is only days away. There are endless worthy discussion topics. Injuries, cuts, free agents, depth charts, Hard Knocks... endless. It's usually this time of year that I enjoy this board most. Unfortunately, most of the threads read the same way. The thread starts off properly, Bearcat says something inflamatory, someone objects to it, name calling and whiny bickering ensues.

Like I said, I'm not likely to leave completely. However, the monotonous tone of every single thread makes it very uncompelling.

I'm not going to go to any mods and say it's him or me. I don't know that he needs to be banned, and I've never suggested he should be. But the fact that so many people do seem to get sucked into debating his tired rants ad nauseam, I've come ti find my interest in the site signficantly less. I guess my only point of even bringing it up is that it's disappointing to me.

I do think that, in general, folks could be "encouraged" to stay on topic. And if there are people who can't stay on topic despite warnings, boot them. I honestly think that's a better reason (than others offered) to warn Groundhog or whoever he is, because he has shown a propensity to turn any thread into a Mike Brown dumpfest. Some of those threads (like the airplane thing) were focused on Mike Brown dumping, so it's topical. Others (like the Andre Smith injury) aren't, and the "saw this coming" posts after Andre's injury were at best in very bad taste. But I think that the guidelines should be clear so that people can obey them, or alternatively so people understand why some guy gets canned.

To follow my own advice regarding thread topicality, I can testify that I have never in fact observed Carson Palmer touching a goat.

But if he's allowed to continue posting in the same way as he always has then I'm probably going to respond in the same way I always have. And that means endless swapping and good bloody fun for me, and tiresome monotonous slogging for the rest of you.

Again, play it out any way you want, but when I take the measure of the guy all I'm seeing is a blatant liar wrapped up in troll garb, and no....I'm not the least bit interested in the subtle differences between a garden variety troll and the more exotic hometown troll.
