gregstephens
Bengals announced Graham has re-signed for his one year deal. Lewis hopes to still iron out a long term arrangement.
mgilgris
I like shane, but I think a kicker could be attained at a much lower cost. That money could be used elsewhere.Anyone know who the highest paid kickers are, and who else was even available?

UF_Gators_15
I think we should have drafted or at the very least sign a rookie free agent kicker for competition! Shayne is good, but I think a kicker should be happy to have a job, and Shayne thinks he deserves he gets the tag and thats some kind of disrespect. Pidge
Shayne is one of the better kickers in the league. I hope those that don't fully realise it are never put in a position to find that out. Pay the man market value. If you want a cheap kicker you can get one, diminished production included in the price.I mean, we're not talking about a 5 yr $80M contract here. Kazkal
All players want long term deals rather then a one year deal...I guess the difference bengals offering him like 3 years but he wants 4-5.
HairOnFire
Sure seems like an awful lot of needless drama over what? Contract length? Or maybe two or three hundred thousand per?
ArmyBengal
I'm just glad we don't have the concern of wondering who our kicer is going to be headed into the season or depending on yet another rookie to lead us to the playoffs... BengalszoneBilly
Shayne is one of the better kickers in the league. His field-goal accuracy of 85.6 percent ranks him all-time fourth in the NFL.That's DAMN good!
HAPPYJAQ
Remembering Neil Rackers, Shayne is worth every cent. His kickoff distance has improved, too.
mgilgris
Neil Rackers now or Neil Rackers then. I think I may take Neil Rackers now over Shane. He is accurrate but not past 45 yards. Dont get me wrong I do like consistency but, is consistency worth 3 mill a yr? Maybe, but I would rather have it spent elsewhere. Good teams dont kick field goals they score touchdowns. Kazkal
I think the Patriots proved that teams should be happy if they have good kicker not the kicker should be happy he jsut has a job...their a important part of the team and it's not like you can replace them with just anyone. Bearcat1975
Good teams dont kick field goals they score touchdowns.New to the AFC North?Special Teams is huge. If the Bengals have to over pay a bit to make it happen, so be it. Mike Brown would just pocket the excess cash anyway... might as well go toward Opie's next sports car. Hopefully they get together and sort something out longer term. Everyone is happy then.
Pidge
Also, ST plays can win you games and it can lose you games. The Pats seemed to think it was kinda of a big deal when they were winning their SBs.Billy - 4th all time is decent enough I guess. It seems prudent to get him locked up longer term, especially as even a fat contract for a kicker is peanuts in the grand scheme of contracts. So, a big return for a small investment. Get it done M&M.
ArmyBengal
Unless there is a kicker on the market better than Shayne (which I don't think there is at this time) you lock him up and do the right thing. With everything else this team has going on in regards to being young, this is one position I'm glad we don't have to be concerned about.4th all-time is just "decent enough" ?? We aren't setting our goals just a tad high are we ?? In regards to Rackers, you also have to remember he had crappy numbers here due to the biggest piece of sh*t field in the NFL.That crown now rests firmly on the head of Pittsburgh. What a sh*tty field !!!

What a sh*tty field !!!I think it always resided in Pittsburgh, the Bengals just took more crap for theirs untill they fixed it. The Stealers still play on their slop pit because it gives them an advantage being used to it and no one seems to care outside of Cinci, Balt. or Clev. What a sh*tty field !!!Good point on Rackers. The guy did have a cannon of a leg, though. I just hate the fact he missed so many chip shots, but I'm sure the field was a factor. I'm very surprised Jeff Reed doesn't struggle more in Pittsburgh. As far as Graham goes, he's almost automatic from inside 45 yards and the Bengals should pay him long term like a Top 5 kicker. In the AFC North, you must have a kicker you can count on and the Bengals have that in Shayne.
chrishcovga
I like Shayne Graham. He's a decent kicker. But he's not clutch. I can think of more big kicks that he's missed than big ones' he's made.
derekshank
I like Shayne Graham. He's a decent kicker. But he's not clutch. I can think of more big kicks that he's missed than big ones' he's made. This was a topic that was discussed ad nauseum back when Graham missed a 47 yard game winner into the wind last november. Graham falls apart againI'll repeat here what I did there.Graham being viewed as non-clutch traces back 100% to the end of the '06 season. He actually did miss an easy FG to beat the Steelers. Instead, it went into overtime, the Steelers won, and the Bengals missed the playoffs. People may have been willing to view this as a one time anomaly... but the season was full of these terrible bounces. ST's screwed up the snap for an extra point against Denver a couple weeks prior (and it is so easy to forget that Graham had nothing to do with that) and the infamous roughing the passer call against Justin Smith allowing TB to take the lead, with Graham missing a desperation 60+ yarder. But since that godawful season 2 years ago... This is the first FG that Graham has missed to win a game or send it to overtime. But the pain and angst from that ridiculous season that should have been a playoff season is too hard to forget. So I understand when a fan says he doesn't have confidence when Graham gets into a game winning situation... even if it's unfounded. But let's face it. Graham is no Vanderjagt. He was seriously the biggest choker ever. You can easily find a dozen obvious choke jobs by him. Graham isn't that guy. Of course, he's not Vinatieri either... but he is far better than the average NFL kicker - and you don't send guys like him packing because of a missed 47 yarder in windy conditions.
