Felony Assault Charge Dismissed Against Odell Thurman

Posted by Aaron Wilson on March 24, 2009, 7:27 p.m.

Former Cincinnati Bengals starting linebacker Odell Thurman was granted at least a temporary reprieve from a felony assault charge as prosecutors dismissed the case today without prejudice, according to the Associated Press.

However, the case could possibly be refiled if new evidence is found to substantiate an accusation that Thurman punched a man and broke his jaw at an indoor water park in Sandusky, Ohio.

Thurman told law enforcement authorities that it wasn’t him [Editor’s note: it’s technically known as the “Eddie Murphy defense“] who broke the man’s jaw, saying he was in his hometown in Georgia when the fight allegedly happened. He called it a case of mistaken identity.

The trial was scheduled to begin today.

Thurman was drafted in the second round out of Georgia in 2005, but was suspended for two seasons for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. The Bengals cut him before last season.

In 2007, Thurman pleaded no contest to a DUI and told a judge he was undergoing treatment for a drinking problem. He is currently suspended indefinitely by the NFL.

You think Mikey the redeemer is alrdy calling him up about resigning ? Hahaha

Goodell suspended him indefinitely.

Adam "Pacman" Jones got it, too. No bashing, just sayin...

Who REALLY wants O.T., although I'd take hin back if he's straight. He's 4-5 years younger than Dhani is now and has to be at least as good as Corey Mays as the backup, right?? If not the Bengals, no other team will take a chance on Odell Thurman, and it seems like Marvin has washed his hands of him.

To be a bandwagon you'd have to root for more then one team. Before the Bengals i rooted for Michael Vick and was an NFL fan, NOT a Falcons fan. I enjoyed watching football because i played it. Sorry for not being an American and not growing up with a team in my city, but for all intensive purposes this is the only team i've ever rooted for. So before you start breaking out that term make sure you know that if i was one, i'dda been gone when they went 8-8 the next year.

I just don't like the term, cause i know ill be hearing enough of it when we actually make the superbowl. Also to call ANY Bengal fan a bandwagon is rediculous, i wouldn't have jumped ship on another team cause the Bengals went 11-5 ONE year lol.

Here's 5 questions that will help you figure out if your a bandwagon fan or not. These are all Bengal related

1. Who went to Augustana College

2. What are Ickey and Boomer's 1st names?

3. What Hall of Famer did the Bengals pass on to draft Eddie Brown?

4. Who broke their leg in Superbowl 23?

5. Who dropped the Int in Superbowl 23?

A couple of those questions are unfair for those of us that were like 6 when the Bengals were in the Superbowl.

In fact most of those questions are really old school. And number 2 is just dumb.....lol

Well it doesn't matter. There is no Bengal bandwagon. There are only Bengal disorders. Bsides. You can only qualify as a bandwagon fan if the teams you like have alreayd won a Superbowl when you start to like them. These questions aren't that tough though.

Im not up to date with my Bengal history, and barely know anything of football before 2003. So i can't answer most of the questions, but that has nothing to do with being a Bengals fan. In retrospect you could say i did jump on their "wagon" in 05, but that was coincidental with that fact that they chose OT in the draft and he was my fav LB coming out of college(followed by #56). This prompted me to start watching the Bengals and when they started getting the dub's i thought "hell i guess i am a Bengals fan" since i wanted to watch them win every week. So no I wasn't around when they went to the Superbowl (i think i was 4 or 5 the last time they went)and no i wasn't a fan when they were the worst team in the NFL but they ARE my team now and forever.

Didn't anyone here graduate even as much as high school here? More than one team would end up in the plural being "Bandwagons".

i thought someone would catch that. I meant root for more then one team at any given point, like the transitional period where someone comes in as a Dolphns fan and starts buying mad Ravens jerseys when they go to AFC championship then they're just full blown Raven fans.

I spent from 1978 to 2007 in Greater Cincinnati (including the five years at college in Bloomington, IN when my permenant residence was still Lawrenceburg, IN). Graduated from East Central High School in St. Leon, IN and have one team....my wife does not understand and she grew up in Westwood and graduated from the School of Creative and Performing Arts Downtown.

Bringing Odell back is just stupid. Would anyone disagree that we could find a more ready linebacker in the draft than what Odell could bring to this team ?? I have already forgotten how long it's been since he's even played a down. It's been a long time. Seriously though, good luck to Odell. I hope he finds a way to stay clean and out of trouble. I just don't want him anywhere near this team.

"intents and purposes."

What the heck is an "intensive purpose?"

I also saw in this thread another baffling case of misspelling "lose" as "loose." As in, "there is a winner and a looser."

My question is, how can someone be a Bengals fan and not know how to spell "lose"???!!! :P

No, I'm not the grammar police, but if English is your first language... :o
