Holy Crap It's Official

he saw a way to make more money staying the bengals so he went after it

I assume you're talking about jersey sales. I have doubts as to how many jerseys he can sell anymore. His open scorn for the team used up a lot of the goodwill he had with the fans. Throw in a season ending injury and those jersey sales will really fall. Nope, I don't think it was for the money. Chad just has to have folks talking about him. He knows that even if he has a mediocre game in week one, he'll be all over sportscenter, NFL Network, etc. That new name on the back of his jersey earns him what he really wants, attention.

I still can't believe we didn't take a first and a third for this idiot. I don't care about his name. We should call him whatever he wants to be called. But his performance last year, his very light work so far this year, and his injuries, which are starting to come more frequently, all add up to a career that will end in sloppy and flat out incorrect routes, frequent trips to the IR, and more and more desperate pleas for attention.

Cmon Central!!! You know I love you man, but I have to protest here... Your talking about a 4 time, back-to-back probowler. He's been a leader in yardage for how many seasons? Chad produces, nuff said about that.

As far as you saying light work, that seems to be the new strategy around here in Cincy. What's wrong with TJ's hami again? It's really not Chad's fault he got dunked on his shoulder, at least he gave 110% when going up for the ball.

I will agree with you though that Chad is definitely an attention whore.

I admit that he was a hell of a player. But his style, which worked when he was young, is going to work against him now. I also admit that my disdain for Chad deprives me of appreciating anything positive he does. As for his shoulder injury, it's not like it's a surprise to any of us.

The only good thing about Chad being on this team is it leads you, AGreen, to post more. You actually post like Chad plays: with complete abandon and no regard for your own safety.

First of all, he is still Chad Johnson to me and always wil be.

Secondly, yeah Chad has got some gaudy numbers and personal accomplishments. However for all of that he has a very bad habit of disappearing during crunch time. Let's hope his name change helps him make a few more catches in the fourth period, helps him hold onto the ball after contact, provides a cure for "alligator arms" and provides proper nutrition and hydration so he doesn't have to leave the field and get an IV during the game.

Buena suerte, Chad Johnson.

I think we should now sign the recently released former Kentucky QB, Jared Lorenzon. Of his numerous nicknames, I always found 'He Ate Me' to be among my all-time favorites. He could officially change his name as well, and we would watch He Ate Me throw to Ocho Cinco. Good stuff.

As far as Lorenzen is concerned, I prefer "The Round Mound of Touchdown" and "The Pillsbury Throw Boy".

Makes you wonder what his family thinks of this, man this guy is in a league of his own i guess. I just hope he puts up numbers and scores TDs

I doubt his family cares because it's getting him mo money

Idiot? Eh gotta give chad alittle credit he saw a way to make more money staying the bengals so he went after it

Agreed 100% players get a cut of every jersey they sell. Which I think is a genious move on his part.

Not gonna lie, Ive always have been a Chad Joh...... Ocho Cinco supporter. Is it a little off the wall, maybe. But when we were winning we ALL loved his antics. And if he produces we'll all love him again.

When we were winning we all "tolerated" his antics. Now it's just stupid to call attention to yourself when you're not doing anything impressive on the field. If he produces again, we will, once again, tolerate him. Nothing's gonna make me "love" the stupid HOF jacket thing and the name change is just weird.

What f**king crunch time? This is what blows me away with some of you. No offense JJak but seriously what f**king crunch time are you speaking of? Chad Johnson is playing on a mediocre team and he's frusterated, you would feel the same... The team reeks of mediocre! Chad's played in ONE contraversial "crunch time" game. ONE! And I already know what you'll all say: "that he folded during that game," ..whatever  . The simple fact still remains the same; Carson Palmer got taken out of the game on one of the cheapest shots EVER in the history of the NFL and Chad went haywire just like the emotional player he is. He went haywire because he had finally made it to the playoffs and truly fealt that we had a shot at the Super Bowl (which we did) and that dream was shattered when Carson went down and MR. Mediocre Kitna stepped in. Factual Point.

My stance on Chad remains the same. He's one of the best in the league. Until you can find me a better replacement, Chad's my guy! And I'm 100% positive that Carson feels the same.

Let's not forget the eternal hope that he discovers that the game has an aspect called "blocking"

That's why I'm your favorite poster, the one that you love to hate! ;)

You know that's baloney, you're one of my favorite posters. It's always good to read your stuff, and I hope Chad catches about 30 touchdowns this year and leads the Bengals to a division championship and a playoff appearance. And hopefully in that playoff game Chad can be a big boy and save the tears until after the game.

Without Chad Ocho Cinco, this team is among the dwellers in the league. TJ shines because COC gets attention from defenses.

I would hope any #1 WR would get attention from defenses, do they deploy a special secret agent on defense to cover Cramp-o Ocho?

Chad is declining rapidly, knows it, is going through his own NFL middle life crisis, and is probably going to let the team town in big games again, making 9-7, 7-9 or 6-10.

As soon as they start losing games and he starts having bad games again, he'll have to change his name back.

wow. those are some thick rose colored glasses there, agreen.

Here is a further sampling of Chad's knack for not showing up at "crunch time".

As you cling to the well chronicled 2005 playoff implosion of 85, let's jump forward to 2006 and take a look at the late-season situation:

Bengals are 8-5. second in the the AFC Norte. ready to take the wild-card spot with just one more win.

Chad, SOMEHOW, fails to show up during the next three-game stretch....aka, crunch time.

CIN at INDY

Chad's catches 3 passes for 37 yards...Bengals lose 16-34.

CIN at DEN

Chad's catches 3 passes for 32 yards...Bengals lose 23-24.

PIT at CIN

Chad's catches 4 passes for 53 yards...Bengals lose 17-23

3 "Crunch Time" games - 10 passes - 122 yards - 0 TD's - 3 Losses when the playoffs were in sight.

End result: No playoffs

Now factor in the dropped passes and the critical penalty called on Chad that negated one of the few big plays the Bengals offense managed to produce.

As for Shula's rant about declining skills.....maybe. Personally I see no loss of speed or anything else that would make me believe Chad's receiving skills are physically slipping. That said, I think there has been at least one major change in his game and it relates to how often defenders lay solid hits on Mr. Cinco. Simply put, Chad now gets blown up more than an inflatable love doll and if there was anything notable about the play he injured his shoulder on was how familiar it looked. And something tells me Mr. Bojangles has noticed, as the Pittsburgh and Buffalo games of last season offered ample proof of Chad hearing footsteps.

Exactly. Factor in the drops and other mistakes and his value drops even further. He is a detriment in some of those games. Those "crunch time" games.

Now, I don't see much diminsihed physical skill but what I do see is the steady erosion, from an already inferior level, of his mental toughness and ability to focus. That has diminished.

With Chad, it is mental weakness. He just does not have the mental game, which is just as important as the physical in a game where athletes are all world class and the margins of difference are even smaller. The brain becomes the differentiator.

Yep. Why does Chad always fail to produce against the Steelers? It's not because they have more talent in their secondary. It's because it isn't Fred Smoot back there joking around with him and talking back and forth. It's guys who hit him and when he makes a joke, they just stare him down. It gets in his head... because he's weak. The fact that every team in the NFL hasn't learned this is amazing to me, because it seems plain as day to me.

First of all, thanks kingwilly for detaling the end of the 2006 season. That was basically what I was referring to in my post. But I was also thinking about the game against the Cardinals last year when he fumbled at the goal line and sat there with his back to the play and made no attempt to go after it. If someone has that picture somewhere, please post it. That's the kind of f**king crunch time I'm talking about agreen. During crunch time, great players change the game, not disappear in it. He's a bit like Adam Dunn. A lot of hollow numbers that have had little affect on wins and losses over the last couple of seasons.

Chad Johnson's act has become nothing short of a circus freakshow too. He is a media whore and a puppet on Drew's string. I just want to know how his name change is going to affect or improve his game this season.

Lastly, when I grew up, your last name meant something. I wonder how the members of the Johnson family feel about the new name. I find it very disrespectful.

That being said, here's hoping that they (he and Carson) are on the same page this year and have a great season together. If not, may next year Chad might consider coming to the voluntary practices in the spring like everybody else. Well everybody but him and TJ. ;)

Ok.. I agree Chad-Ocho-what-ever is no longer THE WR he was a couple of years ago,

lets not kid our selves.. He is still a very good football player ON the field. Off the field? Meh... He is working his way up there to the TO level of craziness.

But on the field.. he is still very good.
