Why do we even allow Thurman posts anymore? This thread was obviously started to agitate people (one in particular, I believe), and is accomplishing nothing.

As to Thurman, I still believe we made a mistake, and I won't change my opinion about that. However, I'm not going to get drawn into that argument again. I just wish as Bengals fans we could save the animosity for people who deserve it, like Browns and Steelers fans.....

Actually, you will change your opinion if he never plays another NFL game, or gets signed and sucks. Just us those that think it wasn't a mistake will change their opinions when he produces, wins a Super Bowl, or goes to Canton.

Bottom line is, the future will be what it is. You don't think we should even allow the Thurman posts anymore? Don't freaking respond. It's amazing how everyone feels compelled to respond to everything on this board.

I say that because the last thurman thread got closed because it degraded into a name calling thread that wasn't very productive.

And if I feel that this thread's origins are childish in nature, then I have every right to say so. Just like you have every right to respond to my post if you don't like it.

In any case, taking your supposition as truth for purposes of the argument, some posters here have been permitted to post advocations of violence against women - not just once, but several times. The content of this thread (even if your supposition is correct) is far less inappropriate than that.

Yes, I'm aware of that. I don't agree with that either. But, taking my supposition as truth for the purposes of argument, wouldn't it be better not to start this thread at all? I'd rather not see his posts at all than to see what kind of response he'd have to this.

I absolutely agree and support your right to say whatever you want. I find irony, however, in your 'No one should dignify that with a response' response. I'm not saying, I'm just saying, that' all.

This is Thurmanation, Ive decided to face the facts. I'm still 100% an Odell fan but having his name still doesn't make much sense. After all he was merely the wagon i rode into Cincinnati on, and i'm here to stay.

Can we just drop all this Canadian on Canadian acrimony here?

We all were a fan of Odells back in 05.. He brought excitement to our defense and that was something new around here.... I'm not grasping how you can still be a fan of his, when in 2006 he decided to get stupid and get into trouble and then decide he didn't need to do what was necessary

to get back in the game and the comish gave him another year?? Then he gets reinstated and he still can't do what it takes to get back on the field... You know what that tells me, he doesn't give a schitt that a fan actually gave a damn about him and went bought his jersey, dedicated their board name to him.. Basically Odell pissed on his fans... I actually think it's awesome that you are going to remain a Bengals fan, we need more...

I'll file this one under "Posts That Make My Job Here Easier". Thank you sir.

Who am I to grant you permission for anything? I'm just voicing my opinion.

Don't worry, I had to drop the Henry and C. Johnson pics from my posts as well, but I'm still here. I'll always be a Bengals fan first... Chad's in timeout right now. He'll be off the naughty chair in a few more weeks.

:excitedgroup: And we are extremely glad to have the support of a fine Northern brethren such as yourself. It's going to take some adjusting to the new name, however. You may have to remind us of your 'secret identity' until we catch on.

Given your eternal lovefest with the man, I don't doubt you personally will forgive him for everything....

The rest of the city? Not so much.

I will never like him as a person, but if he comes back and does the right things and gives his best while playing, I will have no problems with him as a WR playing for my favorite NFL team.

lol. Perfect way to decribe it. This smiley would sum up the situation perfectly. e8483.gif

I'm dead serious. I love Chad, but he's been a bad boy, so I stuck my McFarlane Chad Johnson figurine in the corner on a stool. Seems to be working for the time being, havn't heard too much fussing for quite some time.

TTJACKSON,

I think if he comes back, wins the team over, and gives the 110% that we were used to seeing from Chad, we'll see the city and the mostly fairweather fans of Cincinnati forgive him and be right back on his jock. Kids will still love him and parents will still buy his jerseys for them... You see, most people seem to only remember the negative things in life, they don't remember the positives. In the world of sports, its the complete opposite. If you win and/or your a great player who makes great plays, people seem to forget all the negative crap. No one will be talking about a loose ball that Chad felt was grounded and down by rule, they'll talk about the spectacular catch in the back of the endzone... I think Chad will be fine if everything works out here in Cincy and he starts game 1.

gives the 110% that we were used to seeing from Chad

He's never given 110%.

Giving 110% means attending every OTA

Giving 110% means blocking for the running game rather than escorting your DB to the ballcarrier

Giving 110% means willingly going over the middle

Giving 110% means playing DB when the ball intended for you ends up in the defender's hands instead

Giving 110% means getting the extra 3 yard on a 8 yard catch on 3rd and 11 instead of trotting out of bounds

Giving 110% means conducting yourself in a personable manner at all times, accepting the criticism as well as the glory

Giving 110% means running charity events where the winner of major prizes is legitimate, not your own girlfriend

Giving 110% means operating under the same set of rules as everyone else, rather than expecting special treatment.

Giving 110% means meeting and EXCEEDING the terms of your contract

Giving 110% means paying your share of property taxes to support our local schools

Keeping score? He does NONE of this. Thats 0%.

I'd actually argue that he does less than 0% due to the outright damage he has done to this team

You have your tongue so far up this ignoramus's behind that you can't see any of this.

As unpopular as this may be -- I agree with Green here. I think there's a better than even chance that Chad's silence the past few weeks is the result of his realizing that he's not getting his way as it is. He may be hoping that things (that he himself has created) die down somewhat so he can come back into camp (maybe a day or two late, but there nonethless) and act like it's all good. Maybe he'll claim that he has talked with the powers that be and is now convinced that the Bengals are committed to winning now or some similar story. That way he can begin mending fences, act like he never planned to hold out (because he really just loves the game, always just wanted to play football for a winner, etc., etc.) not lose any money and not lose further potential future trade value.

I have to believe that his conspicuous absence from NFLN has everything to do with trying to downplay the self-made furor and give him a means to come into camp. I just don't think Drew Rosen's game plan involves actually holding out of camp. That doesn't mean he won't use the press at camp to re-air his grievances at that time.
