HoosierCat
http://www.bengals.com/news/news.asp?story_id=6791Not a great deal of news yet. No Chad or TJ. Odell also absent, due to a death in the family. Willie and Levi apparently not around either. Chris Perry is working. So is Brooks but he still has groin issues. Ahmad was practicing on the strong side and his comment suggests that may be his new job:A third-year player with just 13 NFL games, Brooks said he has never played outside the box and adusting to the SAM backer spot "going to be tough, but I can do it."Curnutte has a few notes on his blog. My favorite:Safety Chinedum Ndukwe intercepted Carson Palmer but was chewed out by coaches for running across the field as opposed to staying on the sideline for his return. membengal
I absolutely LOVED the stuff in Hobson's notes on Zimmer. Particuarly the part about not having a defensive philosophy that allows a 10-yard route on 3rd and 9.
Sundance_Kid
I'm worried about Brooks... groin injuries are nagging, and he's still not healed (I know, 4 months to go), but if he is suppose to be our starting SAM, he not only has a learning curve to go through, but injuries that don't allow him to practice and hinder creating a steeper learning curve
Wraith
If cannot live up to his ability we fall back on Jeanty and Henderson not a bad place to be.
HAPPYJAQ
I'm concerned about Brooks, too. Imagine how it would be right now if we didn't draft Rivers. I think that Jeanty will be OK if Brooks can't go. This will be his 3rd full season at LB (after playing DE in the CFL and in college) and he played very well at SAM late last year. I am excited about Chris Perry. It was reported that he looked phenomenal, with Carson comparing his pass-catch ability to L.T. and Larry Johnson. Hopefully, he can stay healthy and he is in a contract year, which should add extra motivation. Rudi is said to be somewhere between 222-227 pounds and hasn't been that heavy in a few years. With all the changes, it looks like the Bengals are preparing to be more smash-mouth this year. I can't wait to see!
HoosierCat
On my own mental list, I've actually had Brooks penciled in on the PUP list for a while now. That's a big reason I was anxious about Odell's reinstatement, and am really keeping my fingers crossed for Thurman this year.
ShulaSteakhouse
I have also been counting out Brooks since he pulled a Clubber Lang on his female neighbor.
ShulaSteakhouse
Levi....hmmm...probably not a player who's gonna give you a 100% this year, if he plays at all, dunno at this point.
BengalPimp
One thing that i found somewhat interesting was Bennie Brazell showing up for lunch(can i get a free meal?). I dont know if they'll sign him, but i am curious to know if he is fully recovered, and still has his blazing speed. The guy is very raw as a WR, but I liked what i saw in the preseason 2 years ago. It also surprised me that no other team has taken a chance on him, since he's been released twice by the Bengals. They might just bring him to camp, though. HoosierCat
Curnutte posted a note to his Bengals blog that Brazell wasn't going to be re-signed. He was there in reference to "other business," possibly workman's comp issues, Curnutte said.
redsbengalsbucks
Maxwell (#10) seems to have good hands.
HAPPYJAQ
Talent wise, this might be the deepest the Bengals have been at WR in years. After T.J., you have Simpson, Caldwell, Chatman, Holt, Gabriel, Urrutia, Purify and Maxwell battling for 5 spots (assuming that Chad is not there). It should be interesting to watch. BengalChamps
I have also been counting out Brooks since he pulled a Clubber Lang on his female neighbor.Totally agree. Guy has been been totally unreliable since he arrived. He has to prove it before anything can be handed to him.
kingwilly
...Brooks nagging groin...it has been 8 months since he got hurt and now he cannot take half-speed, walk-through oritentation dirlls with the D? WTF? Is he visiting voodoo spcialists somewhere? Is he seeing a doctor in Tijuana? How does this happen?I do not give Mr. Brooks long in stripes with the injury and current legal issue. I just am amazed at the fate of the picks taken in the Lewis regime. If I were a to-be-drafted player and had a notion of this track record, I'd be crossing my fingers when the Bengals were on the clock. Kazkal
Meh I'd be happy with jeanty, odell, rivers or even a jones, odell, rivers either way still more upside then we had last year.....but I still love at what brooks could bring at the strong side.
