Especially if the cap hit were spread over 2 years, clearing Chad's salary off the books would balance the impact of the hit - and without the ever-expanding salary cap, it wouldn't be a big deal. Teams deal with these situations very frequently - it really wouldn't be all that hard.As it is, I suspect the cap hit is being used as an excuse.
