HairOnFire
And with the fourth pick, End crushes Bengaldom's soul... At least it was quick. For whatever it might be worth I didn't consider the selection of Chris Long at #2 to be a no-brainer, and I came this >< close to picking Dorsey, a move that I believe would have made a huge impact, not just in Atlanta, but perhaps all the way to #9. DuffMan
Didn't the raiders just pay T. Kelley absurd amounts of cash? And can Ellis play 3-4 End/Nose? I hate to be a nay sayer I just don't see how Oak passes up Gholston or McFadden.
Spor_tees
seeing as how Oakland couldn't score with Tara Reid....I don't see them passing up McFadden either. They got the QB last year now they need a RB...Fargas is a third down specialist at best and LaMont Jordan is a west coast version of Crystal Perry. True that Al Davis is wheel chair bound, senile and lost it long ago. So anything is possible, especially after throwing huge cash at a DT that had a ACL rip last season. DesperateDerelict
Thurmunator - As Marvin & Mikey's agent, you need to get on the phones NOW. Assuming the Pats go CB or Rivers or Harvey and the Ratbirds go Matt Ryan or CB , you need to see if da Bears, Lions, or Cowgirls will trade up for DMC (or Mendenhall). Before Bush got hurt he was going to be a number one pick. They also have Rhodes and Jordan on the roster. They can get buy and be ok with the RB's they have, they have way greater need and I think they take a DT or Gholston before they take RB. HoosierCat
I could see raiders taking a DE but not a DT....Sands and kelly are the starters.Yeah, I would think Gholston over Ellis, but it isn't a slam-dunk. And even if they do pick Vernon, no way Ellis subsequently gets by the Chiefs (who allegedly have him at No. 2 behind Jake Long on their board) and the Jets (who, if Ellis is there, will pull the trigger on the reported pre-arranged trade with Denver, ship Robertson west, and grab his replacement). Frankly, I'm beginning to think there's a better chance of Glenn Dorsey or Chris Long being there at 9, but really I think we'll be lucky if Rivers is still around. Besides we already have a stud RB that we just signed to a pretty good size deal in Barber III.

HoosierCat
Anybody who thinks two middle first round OL will be gone before McFadden and Ryan is hallucinating. Not at all. Clady and Albert are legit top 10 prospects, and teams routinely reach for OTs, simply because top-tier bookends almost never reach free agency. This is a great year for OTs, and I could see as many as four going in the top 10. Heck, the team on the clock right now, Baltimore, has a legit need there with Ogden calling it a career; drafting Ryan isn't going to help their offense if he spends all day running from pass rushers. Double heck, the Bengals could take one, too. In the end, I'll bet that 5-6 OTs go in the first 15-16 picks.

Trade down and get a similar guy and some extra picks.B-town has to take Ryan or possibly McFadden, the only OT worth pondering there was Clady and he's gone. And last I heard Harbaugh was working a Jedi mind trick on Ogden to get him back. The real question is - the Bengals pick here is guaranteed to see Ryan or McFadden, so whoever has our pick better be working the other GMs! Trade down baby!!!!!

I'm surprised by all the prognosticators saying the Ravens will take Ryan. When the race car has a flat tire, do you fix that by putting in a new driver? No. They need an ot. Unfortunately, the only one left who I felt worthy of the 8th pick was Branden Albert, from Virginia. I'd already written the whole post in which Baltimore picks him and why. Then to my surprise he gets snagged by the Patriots one pick ahead of the Ravens. Kind of like the real draft! Albert would have been perfect, can play both tackle and guard, good citizen, lots of physical tools and upside, athletic. Pretty much the whole deal. Can't say that about the tackles left. Good players, not top 8 draft pick players. So I traded my pick to Green Bay for their 1st and 2nd and their 4th next year. The Ravens are in a hole, they need players, with the emphasis on the plural.

DC_Bengals_Fan
I think Baltimore got the best of that trade. I think I just lost interest in this mock draft. Hey, GMs in real life do crazy things when they get all a-flutter for a gaudy prospect. Rember the Ricky Williams trade? And how many people thought Houston would bypass Reggie Bush (the consensus #1 pick) or Vince Young (the homestate hero) to get a relatively unknown Mario Williams? I don't think GB was in dire need of a RB, but if he falls to 8 you can bet that some team whose GM loves him will make a play - even if they're not in dire need of a RB. HairOnFire
Hey, GMs in real life do crazy things when they get all a-flutter for a gaudy prospect. Sorry, but that sort of justification could be used to defend any trade. And how many people thought Houston would bypass Reggie Bush (the consensus #1 pick) or Vince Young (the homestate hero) to get a relatively unknown Mario Williams? Well, that's just the thing. I wrote early and often about Mario Williams being the best player available in that draft, and I think the wisdom of Houston selecting a DE over a RB has been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. And that's true not just because Bush has struggled as a strong case for Mario Williams being selected over someone like an Adrian Peterson could very easily be made. I don't think GB was in dire need of a RB, but if he falls to 8 you can bet that some team whose GM loves him will make a play - even if they're not in dire need of a RB. Sorry, but any team that has an inexpensive RB like Ryan Grant fall in their laps should consider themselves lucky and build on their good fortune, not ignore their good luck by immediately drafting a wildly expensive RB whose presence will take the ball out of the hands of Grant, a player who led the NFL in rushes longer than 10 yards, and also rushes longer than 20 yards. Finally, I'm not sure what your last memory of watching Green Bay might have been, but mine was watching Plaxico Burress fondle, fold, and mutilate the Packer secondary for big play after big play after big play after big play. Thus, if I were a Green Bay fan I wouldn't utter a peep of complaint if the Packers double dipped at CB with both of their top picks. DesperateDerelict
Remember, Thurm - it's WWM&MD? (What would Marvin & Mikey do?)I think it's between Harvey (per Marvin) and the best offensive player (Mendenhall or the best OT (Williams)(per Mikey), with Rivers as a kind of sad compromise. For Christ's sake . . . TRADE DOWN ! Somebody out there has to love Mendenhall or Matt Ryan!
