Well, April Fools joke or note, Jerry Jones continues to conjure up a universe in which he gets Chad Johnson for the 28th pick.

Forget McFadden: Dallas Cowboys' plan is about Romo

By Rick Gosselin (Dallas Morning News)

PALM BEACH, Fla. – This off-season for the Dallas Cowboys isn't about Darren McFadden. It's about Tony Romo.

If it were about McFadden, the Cowboys would trade up to the top five of the NFL draft to land the all-time leading rusher at Arkansas, Jerry Jones' alma mater.

If Jones wants to bring one of greatest Hogs of all to Dallas, he can. But don't count on it.

The [Arkansas] games are played on Saturday," Jones said during a break at the annual NFL spring meeting. "So I can get all of the pigs I want at a lot less cost by running up there Saturday than by screwing up my plan here trying to put a Razorback on the Cowboys. I'm not sitting here having cravings for the red."

Mixed into that quote were two key words – my plan.

The first two steps of the plan have already been implemented. Jones re-signed Pro Bowl left tackle Flozell Adams to protect Romo's blind side. Jones also made offensive coordinator Jason Garrett one of the NFL's highest-paid assistants so that he can continue molding Romo into a Super Bowl quarterback.

Jones has no doubts that's Romo's destiny.

"The perception of Tony – his competitiveness, his splash, the whole picture of him as a quarterback – fits what is ideal from my perspective as the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys," Jones said. "I like it all."

Jones would like Romo's persona even more with an offensive cast like the one Tom Brady enjoyed in New England last season. The Cowboys already have their Randy Moss in Terrell Owens. What the Cowboys need is a Wes Welker – that second attractive downfield option.

If the Cowboys traded away their two first-round picks for McFadden, they would lose all leverage in acquiring that second elite receiver.

If McFadden became a Cowboy, Jones would be giving Romo a part-time running back. McFadden would split the carries with Pro Bowl halfback Marion Barber.

By keeping his two first-rounders, Jones probably would still land an elite running back with the 22nd overall pick, either Jonathan Stewart of Oregon or Felix Jones of Arkansas. With the 28th overall pick, the Cowboys might have a choice of wide receivers Malcolm Kelly of Oklahoma or DeSean Jackson of Cal.

But the Cowboys may have even better options.

"There might be great value for our team with some of that collateral we have with those [first-round] picks," Jones said. "What if someone wants to give us a hell of a player that really fit and improved our offense? That's the kind of universe I can conjure up.

"We could set up here and get a premium receiver on the other side of Terrell and have a tandem."

How would Chad Johnson look on the other side of Owens? Or Anquan Boldin? Or Roy Williams? All are Pro Bowl wide receivers. Johnson is 30, Boldin 27 and Williams 26. All might be available when the Cowboys go on the clock at 28.

A first-round draft pick straight up for a Williams or a Boldin might look far more attractive to the Bengals or Lions when they're on the clock than it does today.

"If there's a premier player out there, you have to ask what does he do to make Romo – and in the process, our offense – better?" Jones said. "The No. 1 thing I'm looking for is what can I do to make Romo better."

Speaking of Tony Romo, that guy is a flat out player. He just placed T-34 at the Azalea Invitational - A top tier amatuer event that features Division 1 College all americans and other first tier amateurs. If you are into golf, the attached list of finishers in that tournament will include names you recognize. He finished one ahead of Buddy Marucci, who made it to the finals of the US Amateur and lost to Tiger Woods, and was the Walker Cup Captain one year. So Romo plays NFL football and is one of the best amateur golfers in the country.

Hmmm...if his opening offer is the #28 pick....I might just start thinking about this. Chad's on the wrong side of 30, still fairly expensive, a locker room cancer, and doesn't come up in big games. If I could talk Jerry into the #28 pick and a sweetener (a decent defender or another reasonably high pick), we could get rid of Chad and use the money saved to get something decent (Robertson's still out there) and extend TJ. It would require reworking a deal or two to absorb the cap hit, but it would be possible.

I think if the possibility of a 1st starts getting thrown around, we have to consider it.

Forget Robertson he couldn't even pass a physical and he probably has about two years left him if he is lucky. The knee is a big problem. I would rather draft a DT in the first or second round than pick up Robertson. If the Bengals don't get one of the two top DTs in early in the first the second first they get from the Cowboys for CJ could be Ketwan Balmer or Sims. I also would consider trading CJ for Marion Barber and a second or third round pick from the Cowboys. I think that would help the Bengals a lot, then cut Rudi and you can still draft anothe rb in the third with the extra pick. Bengals worked out Matt Forte from Tulane recently he could be the guy in the second or third round the Bengals could target.

I agree that when 1st rounders are being thrown around, you have to (at least) consider the possibilities. I have no issues with Chad leaving at this point in time. I think it would put more pressure on TJ and Henry, but I also think Henry's dumbass will have a much improved season this year and if we pick up another WR with just half of Chad's ability, we would be fine.

A bigger part to how the WR's will do this season regardless of who's there, is the play of the O-line and a better running game to support the offense. Carson can't do it all...

A draft day trade of CJ for Barber and a second round pick? I think I am all-in.

Never happen....if CJ gets traded (which he won't), it'll be after June 1st to lessen the cap hit, and that's ONLY if we picked up a potential starter in the draft.

I don't think he's going anywhere either however, if he does, it will certainly be either before or on draft weekend. THey won't let Chad go after June 1st and get absolutely nothing in return while still taking a partial cap hit in the process. Bottomline is, if the Bengals get rid of Chad, it will be for one of a couple reasons...

#1. Chad buys his way out allowing an easier trade

#2. The Bengals get an offer that is just to good to pass up on

Couldn't agree more. Mike Brown is more cheap/stubborn than Chad could ever hope to be. IMHO he fully intends to force baby boys hand.

NOTE: I DIDN'T WANT TO START A NEW THREAD...

I just sat and watched a video over on ESPN and he did an interview in response to Marvin's recent comments. If you haven't built up a disgust for Chad's antics yet, please go watch that video and see if your opinion doesn't change. Two things that stood out to me... When asked his opinion about the opinion of the people that have built an affection towards him, Chad said he has worried to much about the people that affection towards him and doesn't care about those people anymore. In case you can't figure that one out, it means he doesn't care about the fans anymore... The other thing is, regardless of how many times Chad was given the opportunity to add any comments, he couldn't come up with anything worth mentioning. He sounded like a complete MORON !!! I think the interviewer made Chad look like a grade A chump...

Oh yeah, let me go back on record and say... GO F*CK YOURSELF CHAD !!! YOU B*TCHASS MOTHERF*CKER !!!

WHODEY !!!
