At the worst, these picks need to be used wisely to rebuild a special teams unit that took a couple of steps back last season from a coverage standpoint. They should also not be afraid to draft a guy with one of those if they think he could just contribute as a return specialist.

Pretty close to the way I've assumed it would go for a couple of months. The only real difference is I hadn't figured on any return for Anthony Wright since his contract is barely above the veteran minimum. Any comp pick for Wright would be a nice suprise.

Kinda wondering why Tony Stewart and Marcus Wilkins don't figure in on this.....I'd say they at least raise one of the 6th rounders to a 5th rounder.

Marcus Wilkin's contract was 3 years 3 million, so avg is 1mil, and that places him ahead of more than half the signees listed as 7th round comps. I can't find info on Tony Stewart's contract w/the Raiders

That said, I realize the max number a given team can receive is 4 comp picks, but I think it'll be more like 3, 5, 6, 7

Shaun Smith's contract was bigger than Anthony Wright's, why no mention of him?

I believe that Shaun Smith was a RFA rather than a UFA...and that only UFAs lost count toward comp picks.

I think this is because each team has the opportunity to get compensation for RFAs by tendering them appropriately. SS was tendered at the lowest level, which earned the Bengals draft pick level compensation and the right to match. Since SS was a undrafted college free agent, there was no compensation when the Bengals declined to match.

I think you are right about him being a RFA. Knowing that you get NO compensation for losing a RFA, it doesn't make sense to not offer the 2nd round comp tender to a RFA unless he sucks balls. I was impressed with Smith, the few plays that he was in on. Pretty sure i was saying we needed to cut Thornton and tender Smith, last offseason.

Yup, SS was an RFA, got tendered at the low level, and the Bengals declined to match. I thought they should have, it was a modest $2 million a year offer. Shoot, at least Smith could get on the field; we just gave Fear the Fanene around $1.5 million a year and he's a regular on the injury report.

i'm thinking one of these will be a 7th (Kaesviharn)
