hrod382
I think Fanene and Peko could be beasts at 3-4 DE, of course Fanene has to stay healthy. I think Frostee could manage...I was all for 3-4 but with this move and potentially Odom I'm comfortable staying in the 4-3. Put Odell back in the middle, hope Brooks recovers all the way and put him at SLB (Jeanty is fine, just Ahmad could be a bear). Draft Rivers for WLB. Variety
Low motor guy with lots of off the field issues.Yeah, we definitely need ore of that.....sheeshI think since this is a trade and not a FA acquisition he won't hurt us as far as gaining compensatory picks for the loss of Madieu and (most probably) Justin - not sure. If it does hurt us in this fashion, I like this even less.Do you even know what you are talking about? Low motor guy? Since when do low motor guys make pro bowls? Just because he couldn't rack up 15 sacks last season means he's a low motor guy? Are you insane? In the 1st half of the season he was an MVP caliber. Just because he couldn't dominate everyone for 16 straight games doesn't make him a low motor guy. Jesus Christ. The guy is 350 pounds, he will get tired at some point. There is no player in the league with the ability to dominate all the time. Not even Tom Brady, probably the best player in the league. And secondly what's this "off the field issues" crap about? How many times did they arrest him? The guy got suspended for 4 games because he took a banned substance that would take care of his sleeping disorder. Thats it. The guy doesn't talk to the media because he doesn't like all the attention. He didnt even talk when he scored that 70 yard interception touchdown last season. He doesn't trash players or anything like that. Get your facts straight.
HoosierCat
Contract numbers, via Hobs:Rogers is due $4.25 million this season, $5.25 million in 2009 and $7 million in 2010.So between Rogers and Dhani, the Bengals have chewed up about half of the $12 million in cap space they appear willing to spend. hrod382
Why are some of you whining about 'off field' issues. He got busted for a banned diet supplement, not drugs. The only issue with him is his motor.EDIT: Who doesn't take a gun to a stip club haha, ok, didn't know about that one.

scott91575
Well, I live near Detroit and have gotten to see Rogers a lot and hear all the talk. A few things...The goodHe is one of if not the best DT in football when he plays hard. He can be an absolute beast, both against the run and in pass rush. The badHas weight issues. Not uncommon for him to hit 360+ in the offseason and be totally out of shape once he hits camp. Had to be taken out of a lot of games because he was really out of shape. Doesn't always play hard, but he was tired of being in Detroit and essentially stopped caring the last couple of years. Some off field issues (one in a strip club), and failed a drug test but it was because he was trying to lose weight and took an over the counter weight loss supplement. He also can be very aloof and does not get along well with the media. In the end this is an upgrade, and if the change of scenery gets his motor reved up he could be dominating in the middle. Weight and conditioning will always be an issue, and hopefully he can stay clean off the field.
walzav29
A 3rd and 5th is worth the gamble though. I believe that the Krumrie was the last pro-bowl DL and that was 88'. This free's up the draft. We can look for the best linebacker. Marv can talk about whatever he wants about knee benders, but his best defense had them 2 slobs in their at DT. They were trees in the middle.

When he signed it he was considered the best DT in the game, and at the time he was. Yet it's been really bad in Detroit, and the Lions went and signed the guy next to him to an even bigger contract. That did not go over well with him.Anyway, don't look for the Bengals to pay him $7 million in 2010. He will either be resigned or waived. How does his signing bonus work with a trade? Does that ever turn into dead money if this doesn't work out?

Almost makes me wish they could be banned for a week or so for constantly finding something to bitch about with regard to every move the Bengals make. Unreal. To recap: the Bengals just moved aggressively to fill a gaping need on a bad defense by acquiring for only a 3rd and a 5th one of the premiere defensive tackles in the entire league who is under contract for three more seasons and in his prime.I mean, really. Up is down. Left is right. And it is impossible to be anything other than genuinely happy if you are a Bengals fan with your head NOT firmly lodged in your ass. HairOnFire
Frankly, I wouldn't be in any hurry to renegotiate his contract. Right now the Bengals aren't on the hook for any bonus, the yearly salaries for the first two seasons are modest, and even the 7 million dollar hit in year three is managable. Plus, Rogers is 29 years old.....with a contract that expires when he's 32.

If they leave this deal as-is, then this could actually show us that ... dare I say ... our Bengals made a very good trade/move? Wow. I feel like I am going to wake up any minute and shake my head in disbelief of yet another dream.

Nobody's been as hard on the bungles as I have this season and this deal got me to smile today. They did good....real good. Great? We'll see but they made a move to shore up an area that sorely needed it. Why hunt for fault here?Maybe they really aren't your father's Bengals anymore? ShulaSteakhouse
I am happy they were proactive enough to trade for "someone" with a very high, proven ceiling (for periods of time).Big risk trade with a high cap # and a player with weight, motivational and injury issues galore though.Rogers will go for long periods of time and completely disappear, but dominate during others for 5-6 games in a row.He has never played a full season from what I recall. He has chronic hamstring and knee problems, and problems keeping his weight below 345.Or, if something clicks and works, he's Sam Adams in his prime, but better. Guess we'll see how it pans out. Might be best used in a heavy rotation, or in a 4-3 if you're not going to rotate him. My guess is they are thinking about a 3-4 base for the most part, and I just hope they have someone who can back up Rogers because he won't last a full season playing every down. "All sides" my ass. Some folks on here would find a way to bitch if the Bengals traded for Adrian Peterson and it only cost them a 7th round pick. All I'm asking for is some f**kin' perspective from the usual ones who poor mouth the franchise. This is the kind of bold move they usually beg for. BEG for. And when the Bengals do it brings more bitching? f**k. that. And you can quote me on that.
rwalling
So much for Marvin's theory about hip-flexers and knee-benders. Maybe he is seeing things differently and we finally got someone big to plug the middle!Think about what he had in his best Baltimore defenses. This suits him to a tee. hrod382
He has never played a full season from what I recall. He has chronic hamstring and knee problems, and problems keeping his weight below 345.He's played 16 games 4 of his 7 years, 14 or more 6 of 7 years. Almost every DT has knee problems, in 2006 he had shoulder issues. Played all 16 last year so he seems fine. He's not the dinosaur we're used to.Some of you beg for these kind of deals, then it happens and you criticize.I never bought into Sam Adams being a big add, this one I think is huge. Rarely do you find a DT that doesn't have motor questions.
