I don't know. I've been kicking this around in my head, and could you imagine a LaDanian type with Carson Palmer? There are RB's that don't need 4 all-pro OL's to get their yards. It's been a while since I've seen a 60 yarder. Back in the day the biggest thing to fear about the Cowboys was the running back. We need defense though. DDD

I'm just hoping that we get a receiving threat tight end somewhere in the draft. I like Fred Davis from USC he impressed me last night, would not mind if we picked him up in the second or third round, plus he's from Ohio so that's an added bonus for me. I don't know what we should get in the first round but it should not be a quarterback, defensive back including safety, receiver, runningback of any sorts, any other position other than those we should pick the best player on the board.

I won't argue that in the least, but I'm optimistic with the current LB's the Bengals possess. I personally want to see a draft that favors linemen myself. Defensively first, followed by offense.

Of course I temper this with the knowlege of many past Bengal drafts that somehow cannot resist a juicy skills position player above the players that make it all happen in the trenches.

Hell, even an O-lineman I'd be ok with. D-line is what we need the most. Build the D-line, keep the O-line strong and we will have a solid team for years.

I disagree with your assessment of Sedrick Ellis.

He would make a great NT in our new 3-4 defense. He collapses the pocket up the middle. Is very STRONG (40+ reps with 225 lbs). Very quick and athletic. IMO he is the third best D lineman coming out this year. Close behind only Glenn Dorsey and Chris Long.

He is definitely worth a top 10 pick!

I think the bottom line is that at 9, we ought to have a shot at an elite DT, LB, DE or OT. I say BPA among those four positions.

the linebacker from usc rey maualgua i was very impressed with him. i just pray he falls to rd 2. as for rd 1 is if he comes out, i want veron gholston. if we could land these two they could be a immediate impact on this defense next season. out of all the games i have seen this season, these two where the most dominate players on defense that i have seen. i love little animal but he won't get out of the 1st rd and i would rather have veron there. maualgua is not high on the radar screen yet and i hope it stays that way.

Ellis is a guy who has dominated all year, but in the rose bowl he seemed to dissappear at times...I'd like to have him, a high motor guy who can push the pocket, would probably be very productive in a rotation with Peko/Meyers or Thorton. Unfortunately I've looked at Mel Kiper's and Scouts.inc's top 25-30 players and Dorsey, Long, Ellis, and Gholsten are all in the top 10. Assuming that holds it might be unlikely that we see any of them, but you have to figure that McFadden, Jake Long and one QB is in the top 9, so thats 5 other players before us.

I'm curious to see how high Kentwan Balmer from UNC goes, he seems like a Kevin Williams-type who might peak into the top 10 by april. Kiper has him at #7 overall on his big board. He goes about 6-5 290-300 so i guess he has DT/DE potential.

Sedric Ellis is 6'1 and weighs 305lbs and is extremely strong, very quick of the snap , can penetrate the middle and is a lockeroom leader.....He's a top ten pick .

Jake Long got owned by Vern Gohlston .. not that thats a big deal but he's not a number one imo.

yeah, I was thinking the same thing......Vernon Gholston in the first, Fred Davis in the 2nd.

Everyone talks about us needing another WR, well, how about a pass-catching TE/WR hybrid? Its about time we got some production from that position, no offense to Reggie Kelley. He's from Ohio and he's a Trojan....both added bonuses.

Don't get too excited or depressed by Mel Kiper's list -- it only covers the seniors. His finally list will include the underclassmen who have announced that they are coming out. That will add some players to this list for other people to choose.

We should have a good chance at Ellis, Gholsten or Laurinaitis. Don't give up hope yet.

I've seen player projections that have underclassmen Ryan Clady OT, Malcom Jenkins CB, Rashard Mendenhall RB, James Laurinaitis LB and Mike Oher OT in the top 15.

This looks like a good year for OT. I would not be surprised to see the Bengals take an OT in second round.

I'm still hoping that the Bengals draft "Ellis" --- Sedrick Ellis DT first round and Chris Ellis DE second round.

I do too. In fact, I'd caution anyone not to put too much emphasis on a players performance in a bowl game. It's just one game, and if the game doesn't come to an individual player they have little opportunity to make an impression. As for the Rose Bowl, that game belonged to USC's linebackers more than any other game I watched this season, a group goes five deep and is so good that even a non-starter is likely to be drafted. They were incredible.

You guys just watched the best game Rey Maualuga has played for USC. That said, he has repeatedly said that he's not leaving early and just this week repeated that claim...saying he was 100% certain he was coming back.
